Season 2 of house of the dragon missed failed to adapt countless moments from the book, Fire and Blood. Leaving the season lacking emotional weight with certain characters and important story beats vital to the future of the show. In this video I highlight a few of the more interesting plotlines left out from Season 2 and speculate on how it could have developed the relevant characters within those plotlines.

Given the amount the showrunners had to stretch the book content to make three series from the dance of the dragons, it is so weird that they cut out Sara Snow and all the fun stuff that goes on in the North. All the hype around Cregan Stark before the series started, only to see him basically cut after the first episode. So weird. Great video!

oh yeah Jace has little emotional support and no male role model. good point. I'm ok with taking stuff from him so his mom/the queen has something to do but they cut him like 90%. I can see why this would go over Hess' head, but Ryan Condall what excuse does he have to shaft him? At least they developed Baela but it was so little. We got endless scenes with Alicent but we can't get more screen time with Jace and his future wife??? the actors can't be that expensive?

They could’ve too the time they used up on scenes of Allicent chilling in the woods, floating in ponds, & instead spent more time on Cregan, Jace & Cregan’s sister

Jace was actually the character I was most excited about going in season 2. They really fumbled by omitting his on-screen diplomatic missions. It was crucial for his character development and a chance to build cregan stark and utilize jeyne arryn. We could've gotten Jace proving himself worthy as opposed to being a useless mewing plank all season. His death would have no impact at all, I could care less if he dies.

Yeah me too, I felt like they were even setting him up to get some guidance from Cregan, after Daemon taught him to rule through fear and might when he threatened the kingsguard in S1E10. Cregan could have provided a firm yet just approach to influence Jace moving forward.

I’m so annoyed with the show I had to get the book. Between them cutting out characters, fucking up major plot lines that alter the trajectory of future events and the fact we have to wait 2 years between seasons I’m over it.

I think that all these choices not to include some characters from the books has to do with the budget for the series... hiring 1 actor for 3-4 scenes will cost you a few million... let's not forget that initially season 2 was supposed to have 10 episodes, but due to the budget cut it was only 8

I didn't read the book Fire & Blood and was still disappointed in season 2, especially the last four episodes.

i just rewatched some nostalgic LOTR clips and everytime i think back to how much HOTD are humiliating the actual fanbase and the actual author. However, the author himself let this happen (kind of because the clause when given the rights should've been something like "writers should strictly follow the book with no major changes"). I dont even think it's about the cash for GRRM, the only reason I can think of ontop of my head why GRRM would do this to himself and his fanbase is if he was given some kind of secret club access or whatever.

To be fair it would be very hard to get studios to agree to a clause like that, no matter how popular the IP is.
