The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

@@marcusevonblade2804 Nets are great on the smaller halibut but it appears Adam was looking for a bigger halibut than 23 inches and just decided to give this one a second chance,. A thinner male halibut at 23 inches would weigh around 5 lbs or so, no big deal sending them back with the limited 3 fish limit.
@jimbo46124 жыл бұрын
@@marcuslarwa9098 Sometimes you just let a few small keepers go as part of the process. On the water we set 25 inches as out min size given the 3 fish limit on Calif halibut.

I remember fishing on the marin coast and farallons back in late 90s early 2000s we caught these "horse mackerals" that were like 2-6lbs and fought great. never ate them but I bet they would be really good.

Here in Scotland Atlantic mackerel (Scomber Scombrus) are highly regarded as a food and as a bait fish. They are gaining yet more popularity as it it more widely advertised that they have twice the Omega 3 oil of salmon. We like them fresh, smoked, salted or made into pate. They also make a very good bait for crab or prawn creels.

I saw a handful of good sized fish jumping out of the water at Pacifica Pier on Wednesday, but I didn't know they were mackerel until my dad sabiki'd one up. I didn't think they got so close to shore! There have been a lot of bait fish (anchovies) near shore the last week, so I guess it makes sense that even slightly larger predators like mackerel are chasing them too.

I think people forget how big mackerel used to get in the UK before they were overfished. The rod caught records from boat and shore were both over 6lbs. As a teenager in the late 60s I caught a 3lb 9oz mackerel on a trout spinning rod. Most of the mackerel now are well under 1lb in weight.

Yes the juice of any acidic fruit, this will begin cooking the fresh fish... Lemon or arange work best, my fave is lemon with a dash of olive oil salt and pepper, throw some micro herbs, dill works well with fish, but i like rocket as is adds a natural peppery flavour.... Sinple but satisfying......hope this helps
