I worked at a place where the fire extinguisher in the kitchen had a tag from 1999. This was in the mid 2010s. Health code, you might ask?? To this day the people that worked there swear they paid off the health dept (they would always come only on a Tuesday morning, and the boss knew ahead of time because Monday was "deep clean" day)

It must have passed some mysterious inspection anyway ;)
@MrShuntking4 жыл бұрын
As a former line cook. I'm shocked by how bad these kitchens are. Do they never have inspections done? Every kitchen I've ever worked in has been spotless even at a strip bar. It would go something like this. Bar is open until 2am. Last call for food usually around the 1030-11pm mark. Kitchen staff is there usually until 3 am cleaning. Your entire work station was to be torn down and cleaned. If you finished ahead of others you helped the person beside you or you cleaned a general area like the walk-in. That fryer that caught fire...15 years in kitchens never seen one do that. But you can tell it is never cleaned and boiled out just by the burnt crumbs up on the ledge. Busy kitchen the oil should be changed every 2 days and with that you boil it out. Absolutely disgusting.

I just don't get it. You should take pride in every aspect of your kitchen. There's no reason for your grill to be dirty and the fact you can't do a simple grilled cheese wtf!!!!
@MrShuntking4 жыл бұрын
@@grizzakaduke2331 That's the problem. None of them have any pride. Just there to drink and collect a check. Are there jobs in a restaurant kitchen no one wants to do. Sure, but they need to be done. Like cleaning the fryers, the vents. And anyone who has ever worked in a bar back in the 90s. Dealing with old chicken wing blood that collects as they defrost and drain off. Scrubbing out garbage cans, grease traps. The list goes on of what needs to be cleaned. No one has taught these people the basic saying in a working kitchen. If you got time to lean you've got time to clean. I started off way way back in the 90s in the dish pit and through time and experience worked my way up to kitchen manager. And god help these people if they ever had to work under me. There is no way in hell that 98% of that stuff would fly with me. You're there to work. If your doing a normal 8 hour shift you get your 2 15 minutes breaks and your half hour lunch break. The rest of the time you better be doing something. Cleaning, cooking, or prep work. With zero tolerance for drinking on the job. That is a serious accident just waiting to happen. To many things in a kitchen can cause serious harm.
@grizzakaduke23314 жыл бұрын
@@MrShuntking yea im 30 and majority of the jobs I had was in the food industry. You can be dead tired from a hellish day but cleaning that kitchen has to be done. I took pride when the health inspector comes and they're in and out because everything has clear visible tags with correct dates. Coolers and walk in freezer are scrubbed and clean. Well as an experienced bartender you know when you can cut corners or fix mistakes on the fly. These bartenders can't do it. They need to learn how to make something the right way before they can start learning how to fix things. If they don't even know how to build a drink correctly to begin with, how can they ever know how to fix a mistake they made?
@psahota93064 жыл бұрын
@@hunterkiller232134 I agree to an extent. Yes they should learn how to make it properly but yelling at them isn't going to get the job done nor will it help them to actually remember when they are just in constant panic mode.
@polaroidsofpolarbears3654 жыл бұрын
I have to say, I kind of feel bad for these bars. This show puts out flyers and advertises about the new and improved bar, these people know they'll be on TV if they show up, so tons of people show up. They're not familiar with this many people showing up. I've worked in food service, when it gets SUPER busy and you're hit all at once with 50 people, or even more, that's when shit hits the fan. Like I said, I kinda feel bad for them. They've never dealt with that many people at once. I know its not an excuse for bad service, but if you've ever worked in food service, being a waiter, bartender, cook, (which I've done all) its super stressful when you get a rush.

Especially when you're doing everything wrong and people are yelling at you and having to make the same thing over and over again. When I was 18 I was a bartender myself it was soooo stressful. Especially not being trained at all!
@GraceWhip4 жыл бұрын
My first day working a grocery store coffee shop alone without my trainer there was the night before Thanksgiving. The line was 6 people deep ordering multiple drinks for the whole seven hour shift, and people were irritable and stressed. Part of handling an unmanageable influx is communicating with the customers and empathising with them. If you get them on your side they'll be a lot more understanding when things take a bit longer. And panicking makes things take longer too.
@leahmoonbeamflower3334 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s stressful, but such is life. I have worked as a line cook, waitress, and bartender many times before. If you learn how to do things right, then when the crowds pour in( which they inevitably do all the time), the stress is not so bad. These people are just so used to being lazy and doing things the fast/ wrong way that they break easily under stress and pressure. Moral of the story: Learn the right way, practice, and repeat.
