Every episode I always ask, “WHERE THE HELL ARE HEALTH INSPECTORS?” Do they need to be phoned? A report made? Or what? I honestly am not sure how they are brought in.
@rebelwithacause6664 жыл бұрын
It depends on the state or place. Corporations have quarterly inspections from upper management that inspect the kitchen but most home town places only get inspections when they open or if they get complaints because there are so little health inspectors in the state. Sometimes depending on the state they actually have enough inspectors to grade the restaurants it really just depends on where you are. Best advice when you go anywhere is to check the bathroom because that will tell you how well the staff cleans everything.
@G1NZOU3 жыл бұрын
@@rebelwithacause666 It's strange, I work for a large corporation and normally it's every other year in the UK unless you fail your audit (and failure is something like below 85%), then it switches to every year. It's really telling when a place fails its health inspection multiple times as the inspectors don't actually want to close places down, they'll tell you exactly what was wrong and what to improve on. giving you a chance to correct, so the places that fail are the ones that never learned and don't care.

I know a bar owner who was on this show, and yeah, there were some issues with the bar that definitely got improved, like the menu/food, the atmosphere, a specialty drink menu, not being able to train their servers properly, but cleanliness/health wasn't nearly as bad as the producers made it look. During the days before the reno, they deliberately left the back doors open so rats would come in when they weren't there before, and went way way deeper than anyone would even be able to clean, etc, so places that health inspectors pass with maybe a B+ end up looking like it should be shut down. That being said, I don't doubt that some places like the one with the cockroaches in the bottles are authentically disgusting, because it's all good drama for the show, but on rescues where the owner are sincerely looking to improve their businesses, don't have aggressive personality issues but are just shortsighted with unintentional blind spots, bartenders who want to improve, etc etc, like the bar I went to before and after the rescue and know the owner, sometimes things need to be heightened artificially and edited in order to create drama and keep people watching the show, otherwise the network loses money on each rescue if they can't make that money back in advertisers or ratings

You went to the dive bars because you *couldn't go to any of the nicer places that required you to wear at least $1000 in brand name clothes to even be let in For a while those were the only places some cities had. The city where Tonic Lounge is, Portland, Oregon, their slogan is "Keep Portland Weird". After watching that scene, I can conclude that Portland is living up to it's slogan.

It is funny how people get offended just because you yell at them due to the fact that they think you are treating them like a child. Adults yell at each other left and right.

This guy intentionally set them up to fail. He had a themed bar that was entirely anti-corporate and tried to make them into a corporate bar. It's obvious why that didn't work.
