The direct shot at the Source Awards was Suge dissing Puffy. Snoop's rant poured gas on the fire. He didn't start it. Biggie apologists can protest until they're blue in the face. Putting out Who Shot Ya was a catastrophic mistake. I have read comments from Pac's fans on the West Coast, about the reaction they had to the song. Nobody out there was trying to hear the explanation about when it was recorded. We saw the reception Biggie got at the Soul Train Awards in LA, after Pac died. The hate from the crowd was overwhelming. What we heard was actually a toned down version - the show's producers edited the sound to take out some of the booing, before the show aired. Then BIG did Long Kiss Goodnight on the radio. Another incident that gets overlooked is Biggie going on Hot 97 and getting the Snoop / Dogg Pound trailer shot up, when they were in town filming the New York, New York video. Anyone with an ounce of street smarts knows that was not forgotten on the Westside.

Many people have said the same thing about Suge Knight. He did not run his record company wisely. Bringing in the streets to his business and he himself adopting a gang leader mentality was completely counterproductive to Death Row Records and the interests of his artists. Like I’ve often said, Snoop is probably the only top artist signed to a record label who had genuine fear that his label boss would murder him. Suge had made it, therefore all that extra drama was totally unnecessary.
@Bran-Da-Don11 ай бұрын
Completely agree 💯. That street shit is what eventually drove Dre away. If Suge just plays the background and focus soley on business we'd be watching Eminem, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar taking pictures with 2Pac while everyone is wearing a Death Row medallion.
@devangpatel522711 ай бұрын
@@Bran-Da-Donagreed, and the only difference between pac and all the other artists that left deathrow was that pac was loyal to a fault. the problem for pac was he got shot up by ny gangsters and had time to reflect in prison, but he was so focused on revenge at all costs that he was blinded by all of the issues suge brought. Towards the end i think pac knew he was stuck and had so many enemies, and had he lived long enough i am positive suge would have been an enemy as well.

Biggie always played it off like it was his label and out of his hands - BUT we know NOW, that it was Puffy. So when Biggie says that, you know he was covering himself to not look like he is trying to instigate something - Fact is, Puffy was an Image Consultant before he was CEO and climbed the ladder, including getting 18+ ppl killed in a show that had the exit blocked, in case of a fire that is like setting ppl up to die, and got ppl trampled and killed. Thats Who Puffy WAS. Aslong as it made money : security / safety / consequences was just a means to get paid. And Biggie was along for the ride, making bread any way he COULD coz his first album flopped and wasnt selling. Even if it meant abandoning a friend who helped him when he WASNT selling records, opening his shows and sleeping on his couch taking charges for guns that were his - Biggie was never on Pacs level, it was all jealousy, a female trait. But then again, you take Biggie up on his word, but most ppl know better - those who were there back THEN, and those who know more about it NOW.

Kirk Borrowes who wotk under both Biggie/Puffy said both songs were made for 2pac. And he also said, Puffy stole 2pac "I Get Around " playa image for Biggie. He said before Biggie released Ready To Die album. Biggie didn't hsve an identity or image as a rapper. Until 2pac came out with I Get Around song in 93. And Puffy took it and Biggie ran with it. And that's why they released One More Chance and Big Poppa. And that's why 2pac went off in that audio. Bashing Biggie for stealing his style. And people thought 2pac was being a typical loud mouth. Look up the video on this channel. Saying Biggie took 2pac I Get Around playa concept and that's how he rose to fame. It was his two biggest chart singles in 95. Just like I Get Around was a huge chart single in 93. I actually thought Kirk Borrowes was cappin at first. But that interview was from last year and that 2pac interview was in 96. @@bruin9507 You can believe what ever you want. New York artist don`t throw rocks and hide their hands like that when it comes to making diss songs. if it was about Pac i`m sure Big and Puff would have said it. Big dissed kwame before, he never denied he dissed Kwame. Him and Kwame got into beef over it. Just because the Who Shot Ya song was released after Pac got shot, that don`t mean it was about him. He never said Pac name, he never talked about anybody getting robbed, he never mentioned Quad studios, and the song was being worked on before he got shot. Atleast first verse was alreadty done before he got shot. People aint thinking about Pac 24/7 to know whats gonna offend him and what`s not gonna offend him. Prodigy had a line in Survival of the fittest that goes "thug life we still living it." Pac thought he was dissing him cause Pac in a vibe magazine interview said thug life is dead. But Survival Of The Fittest song was made even before that vibe interview. Just check out wikipedia for the date the song was made and check out the date on the vibe magazine article where Pac was interviewed from prison. Pac was just paranoid. He also thought Nas The Message song was about him and he though I shot ya was about him, but both songs was said to be about his enemy biggie. Nas had a song dissing pac that he never released. He dissed pac because of him dissing NYC. Considering the fact that I shot ya came out a year after pac got shot band pac thought it was about him. Even if puffy released Who Shot Ya a year later vpac and a lot of his fans would have still thougt the song would be about him.

I mean… imagine how you would feel if you get shot and you know your homeboy (Biggie) is in the studio because you just seen an mutual friend (Cease) and yo homeboy drops ‘Who Shot Ya’ right afterwards. Any human being in that position will start questioning everything and start wondering who’s really your friend. Plus you gotta remember what Pac was going through at the time. I never even heard Pac mention ‘Who Shot Ya’ though. His main issue with Biggie was that if you the king of New York and I got shot by niggas from Brooklyn (cause they were wearing fatigues) where’s the information I need to further handle this situation? I think he expected Big to be there with him giving him whatever he needed to fight that battle and when Big didn’t show up he naturally felt some type of way.
