I agree with you to a certain degree, but Big did have an album to promote. L.A . is one of the biggest markets. I understand why he was out there, but he shouldn't have been hanging out like that. I've heard so many stories over the years about how people saw Big out in L.A. just hanging out like he didn't have a care in the world. He should've just went out there, promoted his album, conducted business and got out of there.

Y'all notice the contortions we'll go through to put ourselves at the center of things? I'm sure Keith Murray isn't the only person BIG asked that question of. And I'm sure KM isn't the only person to have advised BIG to leave. But in his mind, HE would have been The One to save BIG's life if BIG had only listened. Keith Murray is THAT important. Reminds me of this story I used to like to tell about a now famous actor I went to college with. There was a time--and this is true--when opportunities weren't coming to him, when it seemed as if his career would never take off, where he thought about switching majors to something more practical. He confided this in me. I told him he had a gift and to keep pushing. He kept pushing. And became who he is now. Now, was I THE ONE person to tell him that? Probably, maybe even absolutely, not. But I told that story for years as if I was. As if I was the reason he pushed on, as if I was THE reason he became who he became, and did what he did. I mean, what WE did. You know. Me being so indispensable to the journey and all that. There's a similar logic at play in this video. And I call it "logic" only in that it's a mode of reasoning. It is patently illogical, irrational, as it is born of emotion. Desire. Desire to be held in high esteem by our peers, in this case other hip-hop fans and keepers of the culture.
