All the best Thilina for being able to stand for your self. I had suffered my whole life as a gay. Going for the worst possible psychiatrist was the worst thing my parents did when I was a kid. It caused me to loose my confidence as a whole. I have been dealing with severe depression for years since then. There were countless times that I wanted to leave behind everything until last year. I’m living in Japan now. I could reveal myself to one of my friends and his reaction was the best, that gave me a lot of confidence. I could come out for so many important people in my life after that. Even though I still don’t talk with my family. After being able to myself it gave me a lot of confidence and now my depression has gone for good. All the best Thilina.

There are so many misconceptions in this comment section... Videos like this help normalize the lgbtq+ community. Videos like this DON'T make more people transgender, but rather helps people who are actually transgender understand themselves more and help them live as who they are. People say that kids are getting influenced by social media or influenced by friend groups. But the truth is, it's just giving them a safe environment to thrive and be themselves. The number of transgender people have always been the same. It's just that more and more trans people are being open about their identity. I've seen so many people argue that small children are being forced to hormone therapy. This is NOT TRUE. Puberty blockers are used for kids at about 12 years to delay their puberty so the child can explore their gender identity (FYI, puberty blockers have been used for decades as a treatment for cisgender kids who have early on set puberty). Normally you can't access cross sex hormones until you are 16, and surgery until you are 18 but it could vary slightly depending on the region. And yes, these methods can have side effects, but don't all medicine have side effects? Just like giving treatments for other medical issues, puberty blockers, hormones and surgeries are also issued under the guidance of a clinician while the patient's state is monitored, and the treatment is adjusted as needed. And not every transgender kid is fortunate to receive this sort of gender affirming care because of overwhelming cost, unsafe environment, etc. There is clear evidence and research done to prove that gender affirming care DOES in fact reduce gender dysphoria of transgender individuals and increase their mental wellbeing. It has also decreased suicide rates of transgender individuals. There are also detransitioners coming out and describing their experiences. Even though it seems like there are so many, it's actually about 1% of the amount of people who go through hormone therapy and surgery, which means 99% have no regrets. detransitioners deserve their own platform to express their feelings and deserve support, but it's not right to use them against the trans community. In a lot of detransition stories, it's very clear that there has been medical malpractice and misdiagnosis, which is a fault of the medical field and not transgender individuals. So rather than banning gender affirming care i think it is better to focus on providing better health care. Lastly, Thilina aiya, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for speaking up for the community. You have given so many transgender people in our country hope and courage to be themselves. You have inspired me. Wish you the best of luck!
