Thanks for reviewing all the movies that I love! Despite the many plot holes, Biggles has always been a favourite film of mine.

I have really warm memories of watching this film. It would have been at The Odeon Cinema, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. I loved it and it is a happy memory of mine I always go back to when I think of the film.

@@MatsMovieReviews brilliant review of a hidden gem of a movie. I know blue Peter gave away 50 tickets to the premier as the film makers were worried about the lack of interest in movie. I have seen a video on KZbin with the track do you want to be a hero playing with Dr who (Colin Baker) opening titles, etc. But I can't find it. If your aware of it could you send me the link please? I have just discovered your channel and I'm going to subscribe.

@@MatsMovieReviews thanks for the heart. Your right about them filming those stunts at tower bridge. It's very hard to get film permits in London back then. I think it's alot easier now. I didn't know the girl who plays Maria is the same actress from Allo Allo. I noticed one of the nun's is Pam St clement who went on to play Pat butcher in Eastenders. Could you do a review of a Rodger corman movie called Frankinstein unbound or something like that. Starring John hurt as a time traveler who goes to Lake Geneva and meets Mary shelly and Lord byron. I think it's another hidden gem of a movie. That's if you haven't already reviewed it.

@@mrmeerkat1096 thanks a lot 👍 so glad you enjoyed it 🙏 pat butcher! I must have missed that ! Need to check it out. Yes loved Frankenstein unbound haven’t watched for a very long time. One for the future I think fantastic suggestion. I’ll take a look for the hero song for you 👍 thanks for the support and for commenting and for watching

@@MatsMovieReviews thanks alot for looking. Pam St clement must have done this just before joining Eastenders, which I think she joined in 86.

Literally one of my favourite films. I’m in the process of moving house and got rid of 95% of my DVD collection and Biggles Adventures in Time survived the purge as it’s not aired very often and it’s awesome

Great review. I agree with all your points. The scenes around the gasworks are really great. Plot needed fleshing out. Time travel effects could have done with some lighting/smoke - something to make them look a bit less 'post production'. I mean the title of the film in the opening credits had the same special effects as the time travel scenes. 😂 Overall I still really like it though.

I really like your retrospecitves due to a combination of excellent and informative narration, good editing, and large doses of nostalgia too. I have fond memories of this film, loved the song "Do you wanna be a hero" and yet think you stated the reason for its poor performance perfectly - What to do with an out-of-fashion and out-of-time hero. The time hopping storyline was a brave attempt to update Biggles for a modern audience, if an ill thought out one. The original fans loved the setting and ideals and so time travel and modern times were bound to alienate them. Modern fans wouldn't feel the pull of dashing heroics from a bygone age that were by then a thing of the past. It is an ongoing debate about whether if you're making something for a fanbase should you stick as close to the source material as possible to please the fans, or try to create new fans by mixing in some modern themes or trends. Mat, what is your opinion on films made from a certain fanbase? Should they remain faithful or evolve?

Firstly thanks for your very kind comments and feedback on my review it’s greatly appreciated it’s definitely a tough choice on how you can balance fan expectations and reaching a new mainstream audience.I Ithink many problems arise from filmmakers not understanding the source of the affection and what appeals to both I’m particularly impressed with how cobra Kai for example that has breathed new life into the karate kid films, a great mix of nostalgia, obvious fan service but giving a new audience entry in to the world Thsnks again 👍😎

I guess if you've read all the biggles books you would see and know the flaws in the movie and not like it? But I never read any of the books and just liked the movie for what it is "total fantasy" I guess people sometimes want and expect too much? I myself have been guilty of that with the movie Prometheus "I hate it" where as others love it!
