The bottom line is it is FUN and still is from people discussing it to this day. Fun to jeer and grow up with, fun to speculate a future of it, didn’t know about the little tid bit of a faux toy either.

Good movie, a welcome diversion from the nonsense that parades itself as entertainment. James Horner's theme, truly magnificent.

Hey Mat, hope all is well with you now! Will there be any more movie/TV show reviews at some point? Which ones if any would be on your shortlist? You've said you've had a personal issue to deal with but we hope it's been solved or on it's way to doing so. It's been at least a year now and it's a shame we haven't seen any new releases from you since then because we really enjoy your work!

Flight of the navigator is the best movie ever. From Disney's happy days. It might be a family movie. I love it. Even now! It is a master piece. Max is hilarious. I watch this a lot. When I'm having a bad day. Please don't remake. Disney don't touch Alien.

Began viewing at age 12. I probably watched it on cable many, many times. I can recite almost EVERY line. Over the years when I'd spot actors from it I'd FLIP OUT. When Robert Beltran was cast in Star Trek Voyager I immediately recognized him. The guy who played Larry has been in just about everything!

I think the budget was 800,000. Good cult classic movie. Geoffrey Lewis is in this too. He was in alot of Clint Eastwood movies. Great character actor. KMS was in another favorite of mine. The Last Starfighter😊

Thanks for the review! I first saw this movie in a high school film class at the age of 17, in my junior year of high school (I was born nearly 15 years after the movie came out), when we were quizzed on the movies and discussed them. To say it made an impact on my 17 year old self would be an understatement. It quickly became one of my favorite movies of all time. Oh, and I also developed a weird crush on Jonathan Pryce in this movie (always liked nerdy/geeky hot guys). You see, I always felt like an outsider and a freak when I was young and even now I still kind of feel like it, as I had autism, ADHD, a mild Non Verbal Learning Disability (NVLD), and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). In high school, I felt alienated because I wasn’t a big clubs/parties/crowds (I was always a slow socializer) person, and was awkward and sometimes questioned why I felt different than everyone else. I have always struggled with socialization with my peers and social cues and emotions, relating to people, and sounds, though I have gotten better as I grew older. I also was (and still am) a big geek/nerd. To me, at 17, the world of Brazil represented how I felt about how I viewed the concept of employment and adulthood and the world, as a scary place that was fast paced and overwhelming, constantly pushing people to socialize and assimilate quickly and conform to societal expectations of being a “normal” person according to neurotypicals as opposed to being allowed to go at your own pace, when even stimming or being emotionally overwhelmed and having a meltdown at work (it’s different than a tauntrum) will get you accused of being childish and being fired, and where people constantly expect you to fit in the same box as everyone else, not allowing people to be their true selves and forcing them to “mask” to conform with the wider world around them. And where everybody expects for you to “act your age”, and suppress your true self. I definitely felt a kinship to Sam Lowry when I watched it, as I could relate a lot to his social awkwardness, his neediness and geekiness, his introverted nature, and his frustration and alienation from and with the world, though he was twice my age and had different life experiences than mine. I related to his fantasies of wanting to escape his boring/mundane life and live in a world of fantasy (as I often did), and when he was interacting with the girl who his mom forced him to date and make painful small talk with, I felt…that’s exactly how I feel when people force me to interact with people when I don’t want to. I felt as if the rebellious/offbeat spirit of the movie, its viewpoint of the world and its sense of humor fit mine, and what have you. And I became a Gilliam fan because of it. Forgot the teacher’s name, but god, do I wanna thank him for introducing me to this.

Just finished watching all the Halloween movies, including the Rob Zombie one. After watching all these back to back, I felt like I was personally exposed to the ultimate evil. Dr. Loomis was right about Michael Myers not being human. After Halloween 2018, and Halloween Ends, I have a suspicion that Michael Myers will undoubtedly will be back, perhaps posed as a supernatural entity, rather than just a man as Laurie Strode emphasized to Michael Myers. Fantastic expose my friend! Cheers and Happy Reviews!👍👍

As Brazil ranks no 2 on my all time favorite movies list only to be beaten by Fight Club my second best Terry Gilliam movie is Fisher King a movie so deeply rooted in everything that is existential in mankind. For instance the adorable love from afar aspect bc of anxiety is so beautifully done in stark contrast to the I don't give a sh*t attitude of the main character Jack. Terry has ways to transport emotions into our hearts like only a few directors have and often visually stunningly opulent on comparably low budgets. What's not to like?

I watched Rocketeer on Disney Plus since it went to Touchstone Pictures basically acting as the template for Marvel Studios Legends originally Marvel Infinity and then Multiverse Sagas all female characters are on Marvel Studios Legends using Jeremiah Barton as the narrator for Star Wars when Nicole narrated the entire 2 episodes and Julian teamed up for interpreting the alien language that scavengers spoke.

I’ve seen the first movie and, although that was a long time ago,I remember it being okay, nothing more.I remember being in a video store and considering renting Beastmaster 2.As I was looking at the box,I suddenly heard the voice of the guy behind the counter,a very nice guy who I consider a friend, call me.I looked at him,he shook his head,so as it turns out I did not rent that or see it,nor have I ever seen any other Beastmaster related material.Maybe one day I’ll read the book, since the idea of putting Beastmaster in the future sounds interesting to me and I remember enjoying another, unrelated book by Andre Norton called Sargasso of Space. That one’s lots of fun and could potentially make for a very entertaining space intrigue film(yeah,I just made up a new name for that genre!)

Great review. I agree with all your points. The scenes around the gasworks are really great. Plot needed fleshing out. Time travel effects could have done with some lighting/smoke - something to make them look a bit less 'post production'. I mean the title of the film in the opening credits had the same special effects as the time travel scenes. 😂 Overall I still really like it though.

The biggest issue for me is that there’s just no ignoring the fact that this story was made as a monument to Shatner’s ego. He wanted a story where Kirk was alone, betrayed by his crew of their own free will, and had to defeat a god. Both concepts are ludicrous, and thrown together they show a fundamental misunderstanding of what made the last three Star Trek movies great. Kirk was a great character, but he wasn’t infallible nor was he a lone wolf. And that crew was more than just coworkers, they were family . They would never willingly betray Kirk. But that didn’t matter because it made Kirk look cool. It was such an egotistical premise and there just wasn’t a way it would ever have made a good story.
