@johnstanley39398 ай бұрын
That's truly horrific, I'm sorry that happened. I think there is a big difference between spirituality and spiritualism, the latter of which is discussed in this video. From what I've seen and heard of mourning and loss, speaking to loved ones who have passed is one of the most normal things you can do. People in cinema speak at gravestones all the time, which I assume reflects some normal behaviour, although I have not seen or done it myself. And believing that there is something more than what we see - or rather, the things we don't see or can't see are more important than we realise - is often a key aspect of finding value in living. Even for seemingly non-spiritual things, like what kind of legacy we leave behind for future generations. Belief in the continued development and improvement of humanity is spiritual in nature, as odd as it may sound.

i had a camp where a girl got sick, and my councilor said "I have something to help" and gave her a necklace and a bunch of rocks to sleep with. Then she had a headache, so they put a bunch of essential oils on her to "calm" her but instead she ended up throwing up and having to take a shower because the smell was too strong. side note I 100% believe there might something when you feel off, but i also am freaking smart enough to never open that door to any encouragement of finding it out, that sounds mentally horrible and like a nightmare. Kind of like a back door in the house. Safe neighborhood, but i'm not keeping it unlocked.

While I agree and find that story absolutely hilarious, it has been scientifically proven that the smell of lavender and mint (especially something like Vix Vapor Rub) is healing. Eucalyptus too. That's why you also see a lot of Lavender scented things geared towards relaxation. From incense to candles, to oils to dryer sheets. Lavender is also good for headaches and stress as it's been proven to lower stress and help you sleep! That's also why you'll see a lot of fabric spray that's Lavender. You spray your sheets and or pillow, the scent helps you fall asleep and helps get a restful night's sleep without having to rely on medication. You'll even find little stuffed animals for kids that have a sewn in pouch and it's meant for scents to relax your child with, you guessed it, Lavender being the most popular. Now there's always gonna be those that don't care for the scent of lavender, or maybe even allergic, but I feel that goes without saying. But as a general baseline rule, those scents, again especially Lavender are used for healing and stress purposes. And overall most people do enjoy the smell and do find it comforting.

A radio turns on by its own and talks. Things on shelves that have been stable for weeks will fall on the ground. The door chime will sound when no one walked in. We have to tell customers at times even that we have ghosts when there's a loud crash in the back but all staff are in the kitchen. We call him Mike.

"When you look into the darkness long enough, you're gonna see something" Reminds me of how a lot of the sightings of "shadow people" is either around the corner of your vision darting across the room like they're a dog that just realized it's leesh is untied, or quick 2 second flashes of a person standing in front of you. I myself have had that 2nd one happen to me, the "shadow person" was kneeling and reaching it's hand out to me, and why did it do that? Probably because I've been looking at horror stuff for the entire day and my brain wants more of it so it just jumpscared the shit out of me
@vixxcelacea2778 Жыл бұрын
You can also force this kind of shadow play when looking at a mirror in low lighting. Your brain will try to make out something there (This is also why if you look at a mirror in a dream it usually turns into something super creepy, because the brain doesn't really comprehend it very well - Same with time, clocks and readings are usually warped. It's a good indicator to realize you're dreaming actually) When something is indistinct, the brain wants to make sense of it and because we know dark has predators, we tend to see really creepy things in dark/low lighting. Note how a lot of horror movies and overall creepy aesthetic generally hinges on either low light/darkness or emptiness. Both associate in a primal way to survival in avoiding dark and avoiding empty, because both indicate that something is wrong or dangerous Liminal spaces and ghosts towns play on this too, because still and quiet associates to catastrophe in nature or death. Not hearing animals, birds, buzzing etc sets off a visceral reaction in most people to run.

In my psychology class we looked at a case in which people would be presented with pre-printed statements and were made to rank how accurately those statements pertained to them as a person. Almost all participants were amazed at how much they related to their given statements on a detailed, personal level. Turns out they were all just clippings from the previous week’s horoscope. I’m probably a little off on the specifics here, but I thought it was an interesting look into how purposefully generalized the market of horoscopes and pseudoscience astrology really is, and how that plays into peoples’ self-perception.

I really like this kind of stuff. My baby sister had some trauma she was struggling with and it was dragging her down into depression. Finding crystals and magick and all that jazz helped her a lot. Not because it works, but because it's an interesting hobby with built in encouragement. "This rock helps with happiness, this spell will keep your family safe." It can give you some peace of mind while also keeping you active which is super important for depression and stuff. She also had therapy, and a strong support network. You can't just look at a rock and get better, but in this case I really think it helped. For mysellf, I really like tarot. I do lay my own cards and I use it to apply new perspectives to situations I find myself in. It's not going to tell me the future, but it might show me the other side of the coin, as it were. My condition for these things is basically as follows: - can it hurt you? - is it expensive? - if it's advertised for illness, does it encourage you to forgo other treatments? If you get 3 no's, I think it's worthwhile to engage with if you would like to.

I like to buy crystals every once in a while, not because I believe they do anything special but just because I like how they look. I used to buy them at Henna and other more spritual like shops but the workers would try to explain all this emotional/metaphysical stuff and I would interally think "I don't care, just let me buy the dumb, shiny rock to appease my equally dumb crow brain". Now, I mostly by superficial stones at my local fossil store. Much better selection of interesting things that are found in the dirt and I get to support a local business. Best of all, I get to learn some cool geological facts from those employees. And if turns out the rocks have special powers, then cool, I guess.

I think the biggest struggle is convincing people that their senses LIE to them. Or more accurately, they feel a thing and their brain making up a reason for it is the part that is false. The god helmet, the sensation of someone watching you, the various times precognition feels like a thing. People don't think about the myriad of cues that things give off that we unconsciously take in. I've always thought that precognition is just the brain picking up on various clues and hints to something that isn't outwardly obvious, like if someone smelled strangely but you don't pick it up consciously (Not unlike animals who can smell certain bacteria and diseases but likely don't even know it is what they are detecting, they just know something is off or different.) Or if there has been a pattern of things happening that lead to an obvious conclusion (predicting rain or getting a feeling you should take an umbrella despite it being sunny), but because we're not privy to it happening actively, it feels like some otherworldly warning/indicator when it's just our brain doing what it supposed to. Like the whole intuition when someone feels uncomfortable. They are likely giving off lots of body signals, scents, facial cues and intonations in their voice that show they are on edge, nervous or otherwise ill-intentioned, but we're not actively seeing and reading it, so it just feels like this nagging sensation to get away from it. And this makes perfect sense from a survival standpoint. If you consciously had to process all the information you get all the time, you'd still be processing stripes, orange, teeth and a growl way past the point the tiger has already lunged. Background processes are integral to survival. Having unconscious and unwilled weighing of information and value is the difference between life and death.
