As a hobbyist who just bought his first Fujifilm camera I enjoyed the video. I appreciated that you included the little X-T10 since that is what I just purchased.

nice video.. mist have been hard to keep the wraps on this one for so long.. but, its finally here! I think the x-pro2 has reestablished itself as the flagship x camera again.. for now at least. I think the update to the relocated button locations and other added analog controls should add fluidity to the overall use of the x-pro2. definitely like having all the buttons on the rear to right side. my biggest wishes that was answered with the x-pro2, improved hybrid vf with electronic rangefinder like the x100t and overall faster performance. I'm surprised they didn't release 2 color versions, only black. would have expected a silver or even graphite silver option.. perhaps 6-8 months later, like the x-t1 with their graphite silver edition, maybe Fuji will release a graphite silver (or silver) editing later this year. one slight disappointment, because the x-pro2 has an extra pin in the hot shoe for a non-battey powered accessory flash, I was hoping it meant it would include an accessory flash, especially with the price point.. like the x-t1.. but, hoped they would have a new design for the x-pro2, perhaps a small boxy ef-x20 looking style.. but, it doesn't appear to include one. too bad. BTW, the x-pro2 will have hss flash.. at least with the new ef-x500. should be able to shoot up to the max 1/8000 mechanical shutter. but, its kinda big, it works, but not such a match design & aesthetics wise. i think better off with a nissin i40.. jas manual dials like the ef-x20 and relatively compact, about as big as i'd want to try and put on a x-pro2 body. you can get hss to some degree with the missing i40, I believe, but you don't get TTL. not a deal killer, cause I've pre-ordered a x-pro2, but I was hoping they would have squeezed a tilt/flip screen, maybe even touch like the new x70, even if it meant bulking up thickness a tad. so much to talk about this x-pro2.. I'll cut it here by saying I think this is a great camera and THE X camera I always wanted when the X-Pro1 was out over 2 years ago.. I'm glad it's finally here.

Very cool review. When you say it blows away the EVF in the X100T -which is something I want, it makes me think I should wait for the X100T follow on model and see what it's like. X-Pro2 in silver would be sweet. Oh and I was disappointed you you didn't compare it to your coffee mug on your right our left. :)

+bigheadtaco I'm actually looking to get an X100T soon for a Japan exchange in March (mostly street photography) - with the release of these new cameras, do you think we'll see an inevitable price drop within the next 2 months?
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 9 жыл бұрын
***** Fujifilm just did a big price drop in December so I don't think there will be another one anytime soon, especially on the X100T. In fact, due to the weak Canadian dollar, I'm surprised they haven't raised the price. The X70 is $799 US or $899 CAD. That's not a fair exchange. It really should be over $1000 CAD.

Wouldn't it have been a fairer comparison with the X100T to compare the X-Pro2 with the 23mm f/1.4 lens with the X100T and its 23mm f/2 lens alone? That would change the relative weights and the relative image qualities.

Nice informative video :-)I 've been a fan of Fuji and owner of the X-Pro1 for just over 2 years. Before that I was 100% into Canon SLR & DSLR. I'm thrilled to see that Fuji have finally released the X-Pro2 and really appreciate the fact that they have not changed its appearance. What I also like about Fuji is that they listen to their customers feedbacks and are loyal. The X-Pro2 is a blend of old school design incorporating the latest technology inside, what more could a 50 + photographer ask for :-)

Thank you a lot BHT! All of your videos about the newly released Fujis are amazing and entertaining to watch! Here comes my question: As I have read in one of your comments that the x100 line will soon be updated to meet the new x-pro 2 standards (which sounds... perfectly obvious!), do you think that the x70 is going to last for some time or is it going to be "left behind" with something like an x80 coming out quite soon after an x100p/200? Thank you again for your service both on yt and on the forums! Btw, it is thanks to one of your videos that I chose my first Fuji months ago (nothing special, an XQ2 to carry all day in the school backpack with ease)! Have a nice testing!

I used to think the mirrorscope of x100 and xpro is strange because when using the optical finder, i cannot really see the depth of the field and when using the EVF, there's no necessarily to open a window in the body of camera......even now i don't know the design of x100 and xpro is good or not...

Been waiting for this day for a long time!! Excellent review Take. I'll be selling my X100T and buying the Xpro2. Fuji guys spoke about being able to fire off the Xpro2 just like a DSLR. I found this a real problem with the X100T and I missed a lot of shots because of that. It is one of the main reasons why I'll be selling it even though the image quality is great. I still use my Nikon D3 and love the fact that it will take a picture exactly when I want it to. I was just wondering what your thoughts were about this issue. Also, how does the Xpro2 compare to the Leica Q?
@woodrowclose
@woodrowclose 9 жыл бұрын
+Stephen Gatley I understand what you are saying about mirrorless technology. I have had to change my shooting style accordingly, however there have been many instances where I've lost that decisive moment purely because the camera did not react quickly enough. When shooting street photography this really is not acceptable and that is why I got very excited when I watched Fuji guys review about the response time of this camera. If what they say is true, then this could very well be my ideal camera.
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 9 жыл бұрын
+Manzur 007 the top DSLRs will still shoot faster than mirrorless for now. I have not done a back to back test between the X-Pro 2 and a top DSLR, but my guess is the DSLR will be quicker still. Mirrorless is catching up, and the X-Pro 2 is pretty quick. I'm sure someone will probably do a proper speed test soon. As for the Leica Q, it's a very different camera. It's really hard to compare unless you're just talking about sensor and AF speed.

I'm an X-E1 user and I recently broke the EVF on the camera. I plan to get an interim X-camera and wait for the X-T2. I have a small budget so I'll buy the X-T2 after it's been released for a year when prices have gone down. I usually do street and travel photography, with a few moving subjects shots such as the Disneyland parade(daytime and nighttime). I have noticed that my X-E1 has had trouble keeping up with focusing at times. The majority of my shots have been landscape shots which usually involves exposure bracketing and panorama stitching in Lightroom. My pick of the X-pro1 is because of the many reviews I've read about its excellent built and feel in hand. Also the hybrid viewfinder would be an interesting addition from my experience using the X-E1. But at a similar price point I can consider the X-T10 instead. At about 40%extra I can also buy the X-T1 which is obviously a capable camera, but at a pricier point. Which camera would you guys recommend me to get?
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 9 жыл бұрын
+ChingLong Tzee the best bang for your money is either the X-E2 because of the new firmware update and the X-T10. The AF is faster and more accurate than the original X-Pro 1 and X-E1 and so is the EVF.

@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 9 жыл бұрын
+Howard during the holidays there was some deep discounts on all of the X series bodies and lenses. The X-T1's price will eventually drop but not until the release of its replacement, or if the X-Pro 2's sales seriously effect the sales of the X-T1 and Fujifilm has overstock. Watch the pricing carefully in the next month or so.

@bigheadtaco does Fuji still cheat in ISO ? Before comparing the SL and the Xpro2, make sure to have them at the same exposure settings.
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 9 жыл бұрын
+Said Azizi yes I did that, plus the 1/3 stops with Fuji and 1/2 stops with Leica also made it difficult to make sure exposure was exactly the same. I shot Fujifilm at 2/3 stop ISO higher versus the Leica at the same exposure. I used the 35mm Summilux on the Leica, and the XF 23mm f/1.4 on the Fuji. Also there is a 1.5x stop factor with a cropped sensor, so I made sure there was equivalent DOF as well. The funny thing was the biggest difference I noticed was the rendering of the lenses, more so than the difference in the sensor.
@eazizisaid
@eazizisaid 9 жыл бұрын
+bigheadtaco Alright then. I don't think however that the 1.5x crop has anything to do with the exposure unless you want to achieve similar images on both cameras and talking about the lenses, the 35 Lux alone cost more than the XPro 2 and 23mm combined :D The Lux wins hands down i guess
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 9 жыл бұрын
***** the crop does not effect the exposure, but it does effect the depth of field. You not only have to add 1.5 x crop factor to the focal length, but the effective depth of field is also 1.5 x stops. So a wide open 23mm f/1.4 on a cropped sensor camera will not get the same shallow depth of fields as a 35mm f/1.4mm at f/1.4 on a full frame. The 23mm in effective DOF field will be closer to f/1.7. This however does not effect the actual exposure. This is why an iPhone with a 1/3.2" sensor shot wide open at f/2.2 still has a very deep depth of field, probably equivalent to f/16 on a full frame camera.

+Daniel Duarte both great cameras. Although there are lots of differences between the two cameras and their approach to photography, this is the main difference to me: Fujifilm cameras are built by people who are photographers and cater to the ergonomics and aesthetics of the old film cameras. Sony cameras are built by technologists who create some of the most advanced cameras on the market, but do not have the same level of understanding of a photographer. I'm generalizing, but this is the overall feel I get between these two brands. If I was a working pro and needed the best tech, it's definitely Sony. If what I want out of my camera is inspiration and motivation, 100% Fujifilm.

I'm thinking to buy one XPro1 used at nearly 330€ used. I'm a Sony a6000 user, but I am wise enough to not be a fanboy. I like to shoot with all my cameras, even with my old and rusty Zenit TTL and Oly OM-1 [not omD]. I own also an X100s, and with it I have a love-hate relationship. Some things are amazing (colours in jpegs, grain ~ note that I said grain and not noise ~ the way that it passes unobserved and unhearded, the glorious 35mm equivalent aspect ratio) but other things for me are not so good (autofocus isn't usable even in good light, I always shoot manual, the battery life is bad, and the portability/pocketability isn't so good). For everyday use I'm thinking to buy a 1" camera (rx100 or g7x), but I'd like to try the XPro1 because I think it'll be fun to use, and maybe with so much budget friendly price I think it's worth a try. Also the Fuji lenses are the dream come true for a Sony user like me, where all the lenses are not so good in grabbing light (the new 35 1.4 is for full frame, and it is by no mean cheap). After all this talking my question is: what lens can I grab at a good price for the XPro1? It's worth it? I'm also thinking to sell the X100s and buy an X70.
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 8 жыл бұрын
+Paolo Pino The X-Pro 1 has worse AF than the X100S, so I think you will be very disappointed. The image quality is great though, having the original X-trans sensor without the waxy skin issue. If I may suggest the X-E2 or X-T10 as your first Fujifilm ILC body and then perhaps in the future upgrade to something more powerful. Buying into the Fujifilm eco-system is great as the lens selection is fantastic, especially for those who like to shoot with prime lenses.

Hi! My question is a bit off topic, but here it is) Is it worth of buying Epson R-D1/x/s today? I'm a rangefinder fan, and i've got couple of kiev and zorki cameras, always wanted a digital rangerfinder camera but I can't efford myself a leica SL and even M9 due to their price. What would you recommend me? Go for X-Pro2? Looking forward for your answer :)
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 9 жыл бұрын
+John Connor if you get the X-Pro 1 or 2, you will get optical viewfinder as well as an electronic one, the later being superior due to its newness. However, since the sensor is smaller than the previous 35mm standard, there is a 1.5X crop factor. This means a 50mm lens has the same angle of view as a 75mm lens. There are some adapters that are suppose to correct for that, but I have yet to test them to see how effective they are. If you want the cheapest full frame digital mirrorless camera, the original Sony A7 is probably your best bet. There are tons of adapters available to mount almost any lens.

@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 9 жыл бұрын
John Connor The R-D1 is pretty cool and collectible. I would consider having it in my collection if I had a decent collection of M mount cameras. As a photographic tool it would definitely be a 'toy' meaning I would not take it out to take serious pictures, but just as a novelty.
@dmitrylukashenko6156

So I have same opinion. It's a pitty that digital cameras get old so quickly. For example my Leica D-lux 4 today is not high performance camera (if campare with today's premium compact cameras) unfortunately. Even X-Pro2 will become a "toy" or an artifact in future :) Technoligical progress does not stand in one place. Thank you for your reviews. Good luck with your chanel, man :)

But are the iso settings really the same or does Fuji or SONY say 800 and maybe the actual iso is less etc. Manufacturers play games with these iso things - at least according to DXO and others - something to consider - maybe compare histograms and set them to match
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 8 жыл бұрын
+John jon Fujifilm's ISO rating seems about 2/3 over, so their 1600 is more like 1000 and 800 is more like 500 compared to other brands.
@johnjon1823
@johnjon1823 8 жыл бұрын
So that would seem to imply that Fuji may not have lower noise if Fuji 1600 is really only 1000 then it should have lower noise if the other guy is set to 1600 and it is actually 1600ish.
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 8 жыл бұрын
+John jon depends on the cameras you are comparing. When I compare ISO between brands I make sure the exposure is the same as well (eg. 1/500th at f/8). Each brand is slightly off and remember that each camera can even read the scene differently. It gets even trickier when dynamic range enhancing software is applied. This is why shooting RAW and matching the exposure is the best way to guarantee equivalent light levels. This issue even existed in the film days, for instance Tri-X was really ISO 320 even though they claimed it as ISO 400. I find Ricoh and Leica read scenes very similar and give the same exposure reading. Sony and Panasonic reads scenes slightly different but not necessarily because they're cheating on ISO.

i thought one of the selling points of Fuji X series was that they did not compromise in term of pro vs consumer when it came to sensors. It was supposed to be one sensor for all, but now they are going to to have a sensor for pro's and one for non-pros? hopefully they dont start making "pro" lenses and "non-pro" lenses....
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 9 жыл бұрын
+flexwheelr the X-Pro 2 is a brand new camera and the technology is moving forward. When the original X-Pro 1 came it, it was clearly a 'Pro' oriented camera, and certain lenses, due to their price, was clearly meant for pro use. However, Fujifilm has never dissuaded non-pros from buying their pro oriented products. In fact, their pricing reflects this ability to create pro-spec products while still allowing them to be accessible to everyone. I believe Fujifilm should create different lines of lenses. The term 'pro' doesn't have to be used, but like they did with the XF35 f/1.4 and XF35 f/2 WR, they should have different series of lenses and clearly distinguish these lines from one another with a consistent feature set. I hope this helps.

First of all, I love your videos and how you express your passion for photography. Can you tell us something about battery life, even if it is a pre-production model? Greetings from Germany
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 9 жыл бұрын
+Matthias K. thanks for watching. Since it's the same battery as the other full body X series cameras, you're going to get similar performance. The only thing is that since it has the option of shooting in optical viewfinder mode, you will probably save on batter life versus a camera like the X-T1, which relies on an electronic viewfinder and LCD. I do not have the specs of power consumption on the X-Pro 2 due to the higher resolution sensor and perhaps power-hungry processor, but perhaps when I receive my production model in a couple of weeks. Thanks for watching and for your question.

Nice video. I can always get the latest Fuji camera information from your channel. I have Xpro1 and Nikon DF, and I think Xpro1's JPEG output is better than DF because of Fuji's film simulation. Now I cannot wait to buy Xpro2.

+Ray Zhou X-Pro 1 still has amazing image quality, especially when it comes to portraits and skin tones. The new X-Pro 2 is basically full-frame quality and will compete very well against DSLRs in terms of image quality. Thanks for watching and happy shooting!

+bigheadtaco Then why do you love Leica jpegs over X-Pro2 ? The important question is : Which one is sharper ? I will be waiting for the comparison video.
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 9 жыл бұрын
+GKhanKutar sharpness is overly emphasized since there is lens sharpness versus the sensor's ability to resolve that sharpness. The Leica glass is probably the sharpest lenses out there but with a few quirks. Along with lens sharpness, there is sharpness across the entire image field. There is also light fall off, distortion, and even the way a lens renders colours. Some cameras overly sharpens images in-camera, which actually is destructive processing, especially on jpegs. The Fujifilm JPEG colours are great, but the noise reduction smudges certain details, like blades of grass and skin tones. What people should be looking for in a lens is the balance of sharpness, colour rendition, distortion correction (which is now typically corrected in-camera), light fall off, etc. I think we have to think of the balance and combination between lenses and sensors. Both Fujifilm and Leica does a good job at making sure their lenses work well with their cameras.

Hi Taco! thanks for your answer. I know lenses are so important to get sharpness but we need to get answers with these recents lenses and bodies. So I think , you should compare SL camera jpeg and raw with Fujifilm X-Pro2. People wants to know how Fuji new camera can give sharpness when you compare High price tag camera. Also in this link, you can see the iso performance of new sensor. I find it very nice even it is pre-production model and just jpegs. www.flickr.com/photos/ricopfirstinger/

any diff in image quality produced by a XT1 + 56mm f1.2 and XPRO2 + 56mm f1.2? low on budget and i think i might just get a XT1 instead of xpro2 if not much difference in image quality. BY THE WAY if i shoot a lot of portraits should i get 56mm 1.2 or the new 16mm 1.4?
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Shin, Between the older X-trans sensor and processor versus the newer combination in the new X-Pro 2 is quite significant. Not only 50% more pixels (16mp vs 24mp) but also a better algorithm to deal with skin tones, grain and improved film profiles. However, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the older sensor and processor. You don't always need the latest and greatest and the X-T1 can still produce very high quality images.
@hsienfromspace
@hsienfromspace 8 жыл бұрын
+bigheadtaco I checked and since the price range of xt1 + 56mm is similar to a Sony a7r ii, do you think the image quality produced by xt1 is on par with full frame sensors like the a7r ii? I'm not sure if it's worth to get the xt1 since it's close to getting a full frame camera like Sony a7r ii. Advice me please
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 8 жыл бұрын
Shin Chan if you are looking for the right balance of image quality and price, you can't beat the Sony A7 series. Pound for pound you will get better image quality per dollar with the Sony system. As for lenses, unless you get into the G master series, the Sony lens line up is just average, if not mediocre. When you buy into the Fujifilm X series camera, you're buying into an ecosystem. Build your dream kit and see where you end up.How much is the Sony G Master 85mm f/1.4 lens? If you're buying the A7 body, you should be buying lenses that will fully utilize the sensor too, so using the kit zoom lens or some third party lens won't really be the same. A balanced kit would be buying the Sony A6000 series body and a decent Sony prime.

I was wondering if its better to get a good lens like 56mm 1.2 or the 35mm 1.4 coupled with cheaper old sensor found in fuji xpro1/XT1? i can't afford the xpro2 and i think i would prefer the body of xpro series. Or would getting XT1 better than xpro1? Also, would you mind explaining to me about 'bokeh ball' shots and how to achieve them? is it more evident in 56mm or the 35mm (whats the difference between these two lenses?) as i dont know which lens to get. Beginner here trying to take good bokeh ball portrait shots.

On my X-pro2 with 35mm f2 lens (only one I tested) there's a one click difference on the diopter between the EVF and OVF. Fuji says they are aware and this is normal. $1700? REALLY? This is something they could calibrate with firmware (body or lens) but they say they'll won't look into it unless they get a lot of complaints. Check yours. If you have the issue let's accommodate them with a campaign to Fuji Support. This needs to be fixed!

David Varela I typically don't advise 3r party batteries, even though the prices of OEM batteries are usually a rip-off. Some brands put chips into their batteries that the camera has to recognize. I know, sneaky, but OEM does tend to perform better than 3rd party ones.
