My Dad, may he rest, produced the original with Eliot Lurie's band, fought with him on how the song should sound, and worked tirelessly on recording it so it sounded perfect. Hearing this cover sent chills through me, and I know Dad would have loved this legacy he left behind was treated with the same love and passion he treated the song. My wife and I are an acoustic duo in central PA. Last summer we played at a winery and had a request for this song. I felt bad that we couldn't do it, so I went home and learned it. This past weekend we played three shows and did this song at every one. It's a classic. It's my practice to occasionally go back and listen to the original to make sure we're not straying too far from the intent and spirit of the song. I saw this cover and was curious.
