I feel like John Mayer was heavily inspired by Jonny. Lie to Me is STILL one of my favorite albums EVER.

I tried to tell one of my music friends (sound engineer) that Lang>Mayer and he wasn’t having it. Lang was a once in a generation fluke prodigy. I’m not a Mayer fan, but yes he is also amazing. I prefer the kid.

That time line won't work. Meyer was already established when Lang was underage playing in the clubs in Minnesota with his dad as chaperone. We called him Kid Johnny Lang back then. His brass section were funny guys . 😊

He was a genius player at 14 when he was taking lessons from a guy in The Bad Medicine Blues Band. He learned so quick and was so good they asked him to join the band, at 14 freakin years old and changed the bands name to Kid Johnny Lang and The Big Bang then a rep from A&M signed him to make solo records. Kid was a natural. He gets together every year with other musicians and guitarists mostly to pay tribute to Jimmy Hendrix. Kids a class act.

Jonny Lang cut his debut album in Memphis when he was just 15, and, upon its release in 1996, the guitar prodigy from Minneapolis instantly became one of the leading lights of modern blues. He's a fast and flashy player whose approach rests equally on technical assurance and musical intelligence. Sizing up a dozen songs, he gets a pleasing, razor-sharp sound out of his ax while building excitement in his lead lines

He came out of the womb with the blues! I've seen him twice in concert, and he was fantastic. The fact that he's toured with people like B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Aerosmith and the Stones when he was still a teenager tells you everything you need to know about him.

Hearing this back when for the first time, I was expecting to see an older, grizzled white blues singer with the more typical good-looking black female black back-up singers. The video presents a well-packaged demographically reverse engineered commercial product, but I can't complain about what I'm hearing. A hot groove.

This guy was such an underrated guitarist and singer. He's played with the legends, B.B King and the rest. He still makes music but unfortunately, his website says he is having vocal issues and had to cancel his shows a couple years back. I haven't found anything on him ever since, but that's a damn shame, because his voice here is awesome, and you can tell he feels the music.
