Here’s a Max-Thrust test with a GE90-115B at the GE Maintenance and Test Facility Wales. After the super cool start-up, the engine is run for 60-seconds to check temperatures and parameters are operating correctly. The operator (located inside the test Cell) then pushes the engine thrust lever to full power.
About the GE90 Engine…
After being selected by Boeing to develop an engine with 110,000 to 115,000 lbs of thrust, GE delivered the GE90-115B engine, which now powers the longer-range Boeing 777-200LR, 777-300ER and 777 Freighter aircraft.
During certification testing in 2002, the GE 90-115B engine set a world record 127,900 lbs of thrust. The GE 90-115B ran for approximately 60 hours at triple red-line conditions (maximum fan speed, core speed and exhaust gas temperature) to evaluate the engine at its operational limits and demonstrate its capability beyond the most extreme operating conditions.
It took GE another 15 years to break the record which they did at 134,300 lbs of thrust with the new GE9X engine
Weighing less than 50 pounds, the GE90 Fan Blade is made from Carbon Fibre and a toughened epoxy matrix that delivers double the strength and one third the weight of Titanium
Tell us just how much you LOVE the sound of this engine. There really is nothing like it for sound!

I remember in about 2006 being sat in the engine test bay at Manchester Airport with a Thomson B757 we had just towed in. We were asked to stay with it while it did it’s tests and the noise from the RB 211’s was just amazing. Watching the aircraft bouncing and wobbling about was a sight also. Seeing the nose gear compress with the force was impressive too.

Only a few months ago YT threw up one of your livestreams as a suggestion, 2k plus people watching an airport early on a Saturday morning, .....my curiosity got the better of me. Though I still would say I am far from a planespotter or aviation enthusiast, I find your streams, commentary and the wise and friendly audience to be utterly compelling. I've only been in an aeroplane 3 times, the first time I jumped out of it. The second and third, was somewhere around 2010, with Alitalia which I remember fondly. The one and only time I ever used my 10 year passport. Thanks Jerry, Gilly and chat, I appreciate you x

Very inaccurate description of the start sequence. External air drives the starter, the starter drives the gearbox which is connected to the high pressure compressor via the tower shaft. The N2 now creates airflow causing the low pressure compressor/turbine to start spinning. At 20% N2, fuel is fed to the combustion chamber and ignition is initiated. Oil pressure is checked, then EGT is monitored for overtemp as well as vibration monitored. At 50% N2 the start valve ls closed (by the way, exact figures are engine specific) and engine run at idle for 5 - 10 minutes to warm up. The engine must pass the acceleration test, +-5 seconds to 90% of take-off power.
