Here in Brazil, there was a case of a 10-year-old girl who suffered continuous sexual abuse from her uncle and got pregnant. Her case only became public when the conservative media outlets started to publish it only because her case got thrown into court to allow her to get a legal abortion (in Brazil there´s no Planned Parenthood, and the only way to legally do an abortion is in cases of rape, bad formation of the fetus, and in case of the mother´s health being in danger). The first news about her case were demonizing even the idea of an abortion, even though it was a 10-year-old child. Fortunately, she was able to go through the procedure, but it infuriated a big part of the catholic and christian community. They were more upset and angry about the abortion than the fact that she was abused. In the day of the surgery, the girl´s info got leaked by an extreme right terrorist and people were surrounding the hospital protesting against the surgery and verbally attacking the doctor who volunteered to perform the surgery. They even got as far as calling THE VICTIM a murderer. What pissed me off about the whole incident was that they were madder with the doctor and the justice than they were with the abuser, like they literally ignored the abuser.

And for the first half of the movie, I thought it was supposed to be advertising abortion, because it looked like the main character had a good life because of her career. There are several governing bodies that control how medical waste is stored and disposed of, and none allow that sort of haphazard behavior shown in the propaganda film. As an unplanned kid, the pro life movement is awful. I wasn't born because I was loved or wanted, because I had a stable family. I was born because someone convinced my mom she "didnt want to live with that hole in her life" so instead she ruined 3. My dad never wanted kids but ended up taking care of us until his suicide, my mom sudenly realized she didn't know how to do anything and joined a cult for support. Thanks to her new age bs and DIY psychiatric treatment I spent years 12-20 with a drug habit. My little sister is finally getting real treatment for schizophrena. Mom still thinks shes a good parent just because she "kept us" and expects to be worshipped. A lot of my freinds are in the same boat, unwanted/unplaned, kicked out as teens and strugling with mental health and addiction. Everyone wants to "save a baby" no one gives a fuck about the person they become.

@ChrisFarmer One common trope I’ve noticed is that pro-lifers refuse to accept that their legislation will force pregnant people to stay pregnant and give birth. Apparently, the act of a person, with a fully functioning uterus and ovaries, having sex and being pregnant against their wishes means that they should “face the consequences” of that. I’ve had pro-lifers say that a person who consented to sex CANNOT be pregnant “against their will”, because of their choice to have sex. It makes no sense and just demonstrates that their true motive is to punish (mostly) women for having sex.

Here’s how planned parenthood actually works: 1. You call them when you suspect that you are pregnant. 2. They will ask you several questions such as when your last period was, if you have taken a pregnancy test, if you would like to keep this confidential, etc. 3. Based on your answers they will set up a date for you to come in. A FEW DAYS BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT, they will call you to give you the risks, potential complications, to gain your consent, to reassure you in anyway, and answer any and ALL of your questions. 4. Once you reach your appointment date you will go there and someone will take your information (just like any other doctors appointment). They will also ask you which method you would like: oral or surgical. Both these methods the person who calls you will explain to you in detail. 5. Before you go in, they take payment. This differs on the state. This is another thing the person will tell you about. 6. Once you have paid and are called in by a nurse, they will take you to a room for you to dress down from the waist down. This is almost like a GYN appointment. They are going to do an ultrasound to check your uterus to see a multitude of things: if it’s safe for you to get an abortion, if you’re even pregnant or if it’s another issue, to guess how far along you are, etc. before they even do this they will ask if you’re comfortable and if you would like to see the screen of the ultra sound. 7. If you are pregnant and they determine it is safe for you, depending on your choice of oral or surgical they will take you to another room and take your vitals. Regular lab work. 8. You will get your procedure done, they will counsel you on aftercare AND THEY WILL SCHEDULE YOU FOR A FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENT. They do not just give you the abortion and call it a day. Throughout all of this they will ask you if you’re comfortable. This is based on research and my own personal experience. Never once I have I felt like a villain while getting my procedure done (it turns out I miscarried before my procedure but they were still super nice to me and gave me a urine pregnancy test to be sure). Depending on your clinic they will also ask if you need any counseling which can be covered by your insurance.

@@davidhong1934 It’s important for call as soon as you suspect that you are pregnant. Planned Parenthood will schedule you in on or after your 6th week. For reference I called mid December and had my appointment the 9th of January. If you call early enough this gives you the choice of taking the pill or the physical procedure. Planned parenthood won’t preform abortions until you’re about six weeks and the pill is a choice for you up until the 12th week. Afterwards it would be limited to the physical procedure. Depending on your state the cap for that varies - for mine after the 20th week planned parenthood won’t proceed with abortions. That’s also the answer for your second question and it’s one to ask the person that calls you a few days before your scheduled appointment OR when you are scheduling your appointment. Planned parenthood is pretty good at making sure your questions are answered. Because my case was unique (I miscarried before my appointment), an in-person follow up wasn’t needed for me. They called just to make sure I was comfortable. So all in all - ask plenty of questions and be aware of your state laws and limitations regarding this. Even though my state is mostly red, the abortion laws are kind of lax and efficient compared to other places.

And also the follow up time is two weeks but if you feel any complications they urge you to seek medical attention at an actual urgent care or hospital (if you feel as if you’re having an emergency DO NOT go to planned parenthood) and after you inform them they will move up your follow up date.

During the first 14 days after conception the zygote can split... this either means that: EITHER identical twins have half a soul shared between them and their lives are half as morally valuable as other people... which is ridiculous OR only one of the twins has a soul and the other is a soulless evil twin... which is also ridiculous OR a new soul is created or added in during the division process... which completely undermines the fundamental idea that the soul confers personhood at conception. Edit: A couple of people have suggested a 4th option, that a zygote could have 2 (or more) souls before splitting and each twin (triplet, quad etc.) will have only 1 soul afterwards. This undermines the idea that personhood starts at conception as it would be impossible to identify a Zygote as an individual person. It's just a container that can contain an indistinguishable number of souls. The only way to tell how many is to look backwards... so why wouldn't we expect a Zygote destined for abortion or miscarriage to have contained 0 souls from the start?

I actually went to go see that movie in theaters with my Christian mother. (Spoilers for all you avid pure flix fans) I remember the emotional climax of the film were the main character is in the abortion room and the music is loud and intense and the whole thing is dramatic then the doctor goes "Beam me up Scotty" and flicks the abortion switch and the music cuts and I absolutely lost it in the theater I just thought that was so funny. Background info to keep in mind: the traditional moment of "ensoulment" according to Christian tradition was the quickening, when the mother first feels the fetus moving. In Judaism, it isn't until the baby takes its first breath outside the womb -- and predictably, no, there isn't a scriptural reason for this discrepancy, nor for the modern shift to the belief that "life begins at conception." It wasn't pushed like that until the latter half of the twentieth century, when it was weaponized to act as a wedge issue. Also, the Republicans were pro-abortion, I believe up through the late 60s/early 70s, until the “moral majority” movement was “Christianized”, and like you said, it became a wedge issue. Glad someone brought those other details up, though. I knew about “the quickening”, as I’m a Christian and like to study Christian history, but not about the “first breath” in Judaism, fascinating! The verses in Leviticus (I’m pretty sure, maybe Deuteronomy tho) were the way to figure out if your wife cheated on you are described, and you’re told how to know whether or not her pregnancy is the husband’s, by drinking the potion, and if it causes a miscarriage, that means she was a dirty cheating harlot, that makes more sense now. As a twin, I grew up with many families with twins or triplets. With multiple births, it's sometimes necessary to "reduce" for the mother's health and safety and prevent complications down the line. I grew up with people who were meant to be "reduced," but their parents risked it. Pro-lifers at my school would harass them, asking, "well, wouldn't it have sucked if your parents aborted you" and the answer I always heard was, "no, I wouldn't be around to care. I'm not suicidal. I'm glad that I'm alive, but if my mom had chosen to reduce, how would I have known what I was missing?" Before my parents knew they were having twins, all the tests concluded that I would die shortly after being born if my mom carried me to term. It turns out the lab work was off because there were two of us. But if somehow my mom could get an abortion before she got another ultrasound and my sister and I were aborted, I wouldn't be around to care. I love my family, and I'm glad that my sister and I are alive and healthy, but I was still brain dead when my mom faced this decision. Even if we pretend a fetus is a person, I would never have to mourn the loss of the person I may have become. My mom would. When it comes to the debate over abortion, everyone focuses on the fetus when we should be focused on the pregnant person. What it ultimately comes down to is bodily autonomy. No one should be forced to carry a child to term if they don't want to.

When I went to school I had a class of religion and the teacher once put a disk on the radio that had registered an anti-abortion track where a baby, with a chipmunk-like voice, used to talk like an adult, wondering why his parents were always discussing, and then, when the abortion part came, the "baby" started screaming supplications in pain. Sometimes patients will cry or be hesitant, in which case they are told to reschedule and think on it, and not pressured into it. This early of a miscarriage is sometimes called a chemical pregnancy. My now pregnant wife and I had what we believed to be a chemical pregnancy in December. We cried and morned the loss of what we thought would be our first child for more than two weeks. We did our best to put on happy faces for the holidays, but it was challenging. It impacted us emotionally for the next two months, and we had a LOT of very difficult feelings and conversations. My mother had 13 confirmed pregnancies - 6 children were born, 7 were miscarriages. Each miscarriage resulted in weeks of tears that could not be hidden from me and my siblings - no matter how early the miscarriage was. While some people may not feel the same way, those who truly believe in life starting at conception have a very hard time with every baby lost through miscarriages of every sort.

I remember as an older teenager I went to planned parenthood to get an abortion, and was quickly informed that I had an ectopic pregnancy and needed to seek immediate emergency medical attention. It ended up saving my life, I began bleeding internally before the doctors at the hospital could get me into surgery and had to be rushed into emergency surgery at around 12am. Since then, I’ve had a couple other experiences with Planned Parenthood providing me help with birth control (placement and removal of) and pregnancy tests over my life. The idea that they “sell” abortions or put patients’ lives at risk has just never been my experience. Edit to add: I’m currently having my first (planned, intentional) pregnancy, and Planned Parenthood were the doctors who removed my IUD and congratulated me on the start of my journey into parenthood. I now have an OBGYN overseeing my care during pregnancy.

I had an abortion at the women’s clinic at 18 and I couldn’t afford it at all. I had to apply for a payment option the clinic offered and by the time I got it, it was almost too late. Top it off with people calling me a murderer when I looked for help online, and not being able to tell my parents, my friends or anyone other than strangers online... it was one of the worst experiences of my life, yet it’s 8 years later and I still don’t regret it. As someone raised in a conservative, Christian household, and as somehow who was pro life for 30 years, here are the things that caused me to change my stance to fully pro choice. 1. You hit on this one first thing. So much of banning abortion rests on philosophy, or when life actually begins. There’s no one to show scientifically when a soul comes into being, so it comes down to a religious viewpoint. And it’s utterly ridiculous to expect laws to be made because “the Bible says” yada yada… I should never expect anyone else to be held accountable to my religious beliefs if they don’t hold the same beliefs. 2. There’s no way to draw a clear line between medically necessary abortion, and elective abortion. Listening to any medical doctor who practices womens healthcare will educate a person on how nuanced the issue is. And banning abortion will absolutely, inevitably cause harm to women needing abortion for medical purposes. How can I, as someone who believes God loves everyone equally, say it’s bad to cause harm to someone needing abortion, but throw women electing for abortion under the figurative bus? If abortion is banned, women will die. Who am I to say the unborn fetus is worth more than the life of a woman? There is no way to draw an absolute line as to when abortion is “ok” and when it isn’t. 3. If roe v wade is overturned, the people most affected will be the marginalized. Some states may still provide abortion services, but that does mean everyone will be able to afford to take time off work and travel for these services, and in some cases find childcare. 4. Embryos and young fetuses cannot possibly feel pain, or have self awareness, in the way so many prolifers and Christians are taught. They’ll argue the heart starts beating at 25 days into pregnancy. No. The cells that will eventually form a working heart begin responding to electrical signals. Not at all the same thing. There is no nervous system at that time, and throughout early pregnancy. The embryo/fetus cannot feel pain if the nervous system is not developed. 5. If prolifers really wanted to lessen abortion, they would support comprehensive, age appropriate sex education. It’s cute they think not telling young teenagers about sex will keep them from having it. If kids are going to do it no matter what, and they are, then they need to know everything about how sex, pregnancy,contraception, gender identity, and so forth work. And contraceptives need to be available easily and freely and at low or no cost. I also firmly believe that if proper womens healthcare, including abortion, is available widely, we would see a reduction in abortion after the first trimester. Just some of my thoughts on the matter that helped me to see beyond my upbringing.

This argument suggests that 9 months of full bodily freedom, which is another way of saying 9 months without a parasite, is worth more than the entirety of another person's life. I am neither "pro-life" nor "pro-choice", but I have witnessed (and sometimes taken part in) countless on-line debates about abortion over the years, and I can assure you that the most ignorance and dishonesty comes from the "pro-choice" side. By far. It's not even a close contest. The "pro-choice" people will come out with such ludicrous falsehoods as - and I'm paraphrasing, here, but accurately - "A foetus is not alive," "A foetus is just a clump of cells," "A foetus cannot feel anything," and even, "A foetus is part of its mother." I just wanted to say that in Poland right now there are protest goi g on because our corrupted system passed the legislation stating that abortion is illegal in absolutely all possible cases. That indicates that woman will be forced to give a birth to dead baby, or baby with major genetic problems, even if its a threat to her health. Our politicians passed that law under the current circumstances, which prohibits many people from going to the protests. That is why we need as many comments as possible in all possible sources. I had a surgical abortion about 5 years ago, all I felt afterwards was relief. The procedure itself wasn't scary at all, 15 minutes and it was over. The nurses and Doctor were wonderful to me. I've never felt regret at all about it, sometimes it feels weird thinking about it like, "wow that actually happened to me" it's kinda surreal but that's about it. I've had more than one and did the chemical abortion the second time. It wasn't fun but was way less traumatizing than when I eventually gave birth. I get so mad when people represent PP like this. I wasn't completely sure the first time and was pressured into it (yelled at and driven there) by my boyfriend. When I arrived I was crying and the person doing my consult actually asked me what happened and then told me I had time to go home and think about it without him around and not to let him make the decision for me. They care about the person regardless of their choice. I ultimately came back about a week later and went through with it, but it was on my terms. I felt relieved and grateful to PP.

I can name 10+ different forms of contraceptive measures and multiple forms of abortion. Ive taken many classes on early childhood development which includes the process of pregnancy. The fetus is so underdeveloped at the cut off point for legal abortion that there's not even a question developmentally. I've also already completed my OB/GYN rotations. Human tissues must be disposed of in bags and leak proof, clearly labled, hard sided bins. Companies that handle the pickup and disposal will refuse to handle anything that has not been properly packaged.

One thing that also really grinds my gears about the whole "contraceptives and sex education reduce abortions better than outlawing abortions does, checkmate Christians!" argument is that it's a point that assumes many Christians are okay with contraceptives and comprehensive sex education in the first place. Insert *not all Christians* belief disclaimer here. The church/school system that I grew up in held that contraceptives of any kind are sinful because sex is always meant to be procreative in both spiritual sense and physical sense, meaning that sex strengthens the emotional bond between a husband and a wife (because it's only ever supposed to be a husband and a wife, mind you) and also their bond to God, who ordered mankind to "go forth and multiply," which is the physical sense. The baby becomes a physical sign of the spiritual bond between husband, wife, and God. Adding contraceptives into that adds a physical and spiritual wall between a couple because it means they are not fully prepared to give themselves to each other and develop their relationship with themselves or with God- in fact, it disrespects God by doing so because we misuse his "go forth and multiply" command into something used for personal pleasure alone. So duh, anyone who believes in this is going to laugh in your face when you tell them to promote contraceptives instead. And as for comprehensive sex education, that also requires a big "political" loss because it means a loss of power, especially in the sense that knowledge is power. Going back on what they've taught- that abortions are inhumane/discriminatory/business, that if you have sex too much you will lose the chemicals that emotionally bind you to a partner, that having sex is a form of self-hate and invites people to objectify you and disrespect you (Christianity is now cancelled for kinkshaming /j), etc.... it surrenders intellectual control over followers. Creating an educational gap between your followers and the "rest of the world" means that you're less likely to interact with one another because the difference in education/values creates distrust and "othering" and having to go back on what you've taught not only makes people doubt your credibility in the first place, but also creates conflicts in any other teachings that may have been based on or backed up by those earlier lessons about sex, pregnancy, and abortion. Additionally, there's also the bit that promoting sex positivity can encourage people to sleep around more, potentially forming relationships with people outside of their circle and being "tempted away" from the faith. I know I'm painting Christianity in a manipulative, scheming, evil light here, so *insert "Not All Christians/Christian Denominations Are Bad" disclaimer*. I make these claims because as stated, I grew up in a Christian church and Christian school system. 18 very formative years of my life were spent actively learning the Gospels, the writings of Pope St. John Paul II, the Old Testament, the Commandments, the Beatitudes, Church history, etc, and I learned them as both historical fact and symbolic representations of the truth. I admit, I am being a little bitter as I write this, but that's because what I was taught about relationships, morality, God as father and judge, obligation to God, personal identity- specifically, homosexuality and gender- has quite literally *scarred* me in ways I'm still unpacking in therapy and in nightmares YEARS later. **And this wasn't some "God hates fags" snake-exorcising Bible-thumping church, by the way!** This was a very bright smiles, "Who's signing up for the mission trip to build houses?", prays whenever an ambulance siren went by the building, "If you're gay/trans then that's perfectly fine because He doesn't make mistakes, He loves you as you are and you can't choose to be gay" type of Church... they just also added "However, just because you can't help those gay thoughts and gay desires, that doesn't mean you should act on them because He designed bodily sex, sexual intercourse, and romance for a specific purpose and acting on those desires is an active choice, so having a gay relationship is to intend a gay marriage and to stop identifying/acting/dressing as your sex and those all violate God's purpose for humanity" type of stuff to the end of that. This turned into an essay when I was hoping for just one big paragraph, but that's because ever since I was able to "leave" the Church (the Church certainly has not left my brain alone), I see this whole "just promote contraceptives and comprehensive sex ed!!" argument all the f***ing time with my never-Christian, leftist friends and I want to ram my rainbow box dye head into the wall. It misunderstands the MULTIPLE roles anti-abortion rhetoric has as well as how much it and other beliefs intertwine with each other. Anti-abortion ties in with anti-gay, anti-trans, anti-sex worker, anti-poor, anti-science sentiments, among tons and tons of other things. when my gf and i went in to planned parenthood the first thing the lady asked was if my gf wanted a hug and once they were done she showed us what our options were the first being to keep the baby and what support we could look forward to from them. on the way in though there were christian protestors calling us just the ugliest names one guy even said they are sacrificing babies to satan in there. the entire experience of dealing with everything and everyone those people outside the first clinic to were the hardest most vile part of the process. In Canada, women get an abortion through their family doctor, or any walk in clinic will arrange it. Having to go to an 'abortion center' is outrageous. There is no cost, and it is usually available through your local hospital. I cannot imagine what it is like for women in the US.

My partner and I drove all the way from Mississippi to Oregon to get it done. We had to work very hard by ourselves to make it happen and it was almost too late. They had a hospital that did it for me and I didn’t even know that existed because in the South walk-in abortion clinics would feel like you’re willingly entering a protest. there was only one in Mississippi and it was at the state Capital, which was VERY dangerous. I’m one of the lucky ones.

I almost never comment on youtube videos, but I just want to give a super positive planned parenthood story. I had a gynecological issue, and there was NO WHERE I could get an exam within a month (COVID), except for PP. I had gone to an urgent care a few days before and the experience was awful and unhelpful, so I was super nervous to try a different place. At PP, all of the care providers and office staff were super nice, professional, gentle, and non judgmental. I got a full exam, labwork, etc, and got an answer and medication that day. The appointment only cost about $100 (and that was without insurance coverage or their low income program). It is truly an amazing non profit, and they fill such a needed niche in sexual health urgent care.

As a pro-choice person who was raised in the Catholic church, many pro lifers focus on abortions and advocacy of the unborn as a way to feel like they are doing something/ being a good Christian, without having to actually help those in the most need, sacrifice their emotional and financial resources, or deal with the complexities of helping a flawed human being. If you advocate for the unborn, you are only on the hook for 9 months to help something without the capability of making your life harder or challenging you and your thought system. It is the easiest way out, and wrong.

I was raised as a Fundamentalist Christian and a rural part of my state and remember going to some protests to advance the Pro Life agenda when I was in my teens. I could go into the details of how I deconverted but that could fill a novel but, an an Anthropological Atheist, I find the reasoning of Why People Believe fascinating. What I think is interesting is that Christianity has latched onto more Catholic teachings of the soul entering a body at conception. In Judaism, however, the soul doesn’t enter a body until the baby takes its first breath. Lots of other religions answer the question of When Does the Soul Enter the Body in their own way. But even the argument that Life Begins at Conception isn’t supported by science. The fertilized egg needs to be implanted into the newly formed placenta wall to get nutrients to grow. There’s also a 20-30% chance of spontaneous abortion/miscarriage with every pregnancy. Given that the science supports more intricate details of fetal development, it’s sad that Religion, and Christianity in particular, still clings onto outdated notions of Soul-Body dichotomy. Like George Carlin said in 1992, abortion is more of an issue to control women’s bodies and punish them for having sex and getting pregnant. I find it appalling that people preach Pro Life schpeels but then think that kids are a punishment and people have to suffer 18+ years raising them. Imagine finding out that the reason you’re alive was as a means of punishment...

I don’t want kids cause I don’t see myself as a mom and have a colorful history of mental illness that I don’t want to pass on to offspring, but I fully support loving parents (who are emotionally, financially and mentally prepared) to have kids and raise them in a thriving home. My fiancé’s 4 year old nephew was considered a miracle cause his mother suffered from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, was told she couldn’t have kids but she wounded up having her son and I was thrilled for them. I also think that we, as Americans, have to fix a lot of economic and social issues if we ever want all children to have opportunities to thrive and change the world. You can’t have kids becoming doctors and curing cancer if they can’t go to good schools, be raised in an environment to support their ambitions and not be burdened by student debt. I could go on, but I’m an advocate for changing the world around me so that kids living in it now can have a bright, prosperous future.

Forcing women to bear children, will inevitably lead to children being born to families/single persons who don't want them, can't raise them or both. This leads to increased chances of children experiencing physical, verbal, sexual abuse, neglect, being exposed to adverse life events, developing various mental and physical illnesses etc. The amount of children being raised in families that cannot provide for them (physically, but most importantly, psychologically) is just sad... The other argument, that women should give their unwanted children for adoption... Yes, as if the majority of children spend some time in institutions and then get adopted by loving and capable families. That's not really the case. I live in Greece for example and I have seen first hand how children in all kinds of orphanages grow up. The hardcore pro-lifers should be campaigning for ubiquitous and proper sex ed, relationship skills and contraception usage. That's how you reduce abortions without forcing women to bear children. But the same group, usually holds a very negative stance towards sex ed, because they are usually pro (total) abstinence and against premarital sex and they cannot fathom/don't care that proper sex ed increases young people's sex rates by a bit, but it also increases SAFE sex rates by a lot, while abstinence only programs are near total failures... Religious dogmatism blinds you...

Let's not forget how impossible it would be to force women to be healthy for whole 9 months. They don't want the children so they will drink and smoke. If you put them in some kind of closed institution they will still harm children because of all the stress they will experience. Well, Catholics where I am from are against in vitro, or at least the church is. They believe that discarding those fertilized eggs is murder and stigmatize parents who use that option. One priest even claimed that children conceived through in vitro fertilization are inferior and have marks on their body that can be used to identify them from the rest. As a Catholic myself I can definitely say that this makes sense because the Purpose of sex is to make babies. In this regard if you have sex and are not trying to make a baby, then you misuse sex because you are not using it for what is intended. So if we take away the ability to have an abortion then we may stop people from having sex before marriage because of the consequence that they might have to care for the child.

I actually did once end up debating a bunch of pro-lifers outside the context of a formal debate (I was doing work in the common room their club meeting was in and just HAD to say something lol) and the conversation had to end because they kept saying "pregnancy is a natural risk of sex," and I would say "it doesn't have to be, if you allow people abortions," and they would say " but pregnancy is a natural risk of sex" and I would say "it doesn't have to be" and they would say "but it is" and so on. it made me realize that pro-life isn't really about unborn babies, it's about creating a world in which women no longer have sexual freedom. convincing a pro-lifer that life doesn't begin at conception won't change their mind - to truly convince them, i think i would have needed to shift their deeply held values until they believed it's not amoral for a woman to have sex with multiple partners, outside of marriage, which I just couldn't do.

However, just because they have suffered does not mean that their child should suffer as well. The child will likely have a tough life, but killing them before they can experience their life is not the correct answer. I nearly died this morning. My pancreas shut down a few years ago, which means my blood sugar is not properly regulated. Some of my internal organs will shut down if I am not able to maintain a proper blood sugar, and my blood sugar got so low last night that I was close to death. I experience life or death situation on a week to week basis, I'm not even 20 years old yet. My life is rough, but I would far rather be alive than killed by abortion before I could experience this pain.

Autistic children is a natural risk of raising children and killing a child showing symptoms would remove this risk. Below them was a big block of text saying THIS IMAGE IS NOT DOCTORED. It's shocking and horrible until you consider just how much effort they went through to shock and horrify you. I think the point of the "if you hate abortion so much, you should be advocating for comprehensive sex ed" argument isn't to change anyone's mind about abortion. It think it's meant to point out the hypocrisy of Christian rhetoric being both anti-abortion and anti-education. These ideas look like they contradict each other if their goal is to prevent abortion (they kind of don't, though, because of the argument you made in this video). But the two ideas work together perfectly if their goal is to restrict women's sexual freedom. The thing is, almost no one I have ever spoken to (including internet crazies) believes abortion to be murder. Not really. For example, a common "reasonable" pro-birth stance is that abortion should be illegal except in cases of rape or risk to the mother's life. It makes sense to kill one person, who is probably doomed either way, if it means saving someone else's life. But it doesn't make sense to kill someone in retaliation for a rape they didn't even commit. Both legally and morally, it would not make sense to make an exception for rape cases if abortion was truly murder*. While I agree with you, I also agree with the video's point as I understand it: Us lefties have a tendency to want to "debunk" the right, and that often leads to engaging their talking points as a relevant discussion - there's a lot of examples, like saying "no one wants to abolish the police" or "the idea that someone wants to identify as an attack helicopter is a strawman" - and forgetting that lots of people do want to abolish the police and that identifying as an attack helicopter is also fine. It's all about finding a good middle ground between those tendencies, depending on your audience and the people you're trying to convince.

To challenge your view that they just want to restrict women's sexual freedoms, it might be more realistic to say that their moral framework is simply based on their faith. If you believed in the "absolute truth" that abortion was murder, you'd probably do anything you can to prevent it. If you're pro-life and you think there should be exceptions for rape, it's probably because you think rape is worse than murder. Vice versa if you believe the opposite. It's also important when engaging with an individual on the topic not to assume which premises they base their conclusion on. I say this not because some pro-lifers aren't complete misogynists, but because it doesn't really make sense to believe they all, or even most, are. The Christian worldview is centered around sin and punishment and atonement, so the idea that someone can make a mistake or act irresponsibly and then sidestep the consequences is abhorrent to them. In this way, forced birth is just revenge. i can only speak for my (past) self when i say that i didnt really think like that when i was pro life. i personally only cared about that specific potential an unborn baby has and was so sure on it being an actual person already. for me and my parents, it was more like a too emotional way to see it by having empathy with the zygot (if that makes sense) which is why i viewed abortion as murder. i guess also because of the argument that god created every human being individually and by killing it you would destroy a gift from god. i think that many of the pro-life followers have different reasons to be pro-life. i consider myself pro-choice now and do not stand behind any of these values anymore.

If you think about how pro-life arguments are inherently faith based (the justification for life beginning at conception is 'the soul'), then it stands to reason that there is an undercurrent inherent about demonizing women's sexuality. I notice that there are a lot of pro-life people who do support rape victims getting abortions, and think it should be an exception. But what makes the fetus that's a product of rape okay to, in their words, 'murder'? It's not the fetus' fault. People who fall into this camp, whether they realize it or not, are making their emotional judgement against abortion based on their personal (usually faith-based, thanks abstinence education) views about women having consensual sex. From the perspective of 'life begins at conception', it would not be ideologically consistent to justify exceptions for rape. But pro-life people frequently do. It reveals that their concern is really more about controlling whether women have sex for non-procreational (read: fun) purposes.

Imagine you get in a car crash that was entirely your fault. The person you crashed into has very injured kidneys, and you are the only viable match. However, the hospital is really shitty, and the operation will take 9 whole months, over which you will feel pain, you will be mentally unwell, your body will bloat painfully. It will be a very uncomfortable process for many. At the very end you will undergo extreme pain, a risk of injury and a high risk of death. After that you are responsible for them for 18 years, paying for everything they need. That is, if the other person survives at all. Worst case scenario, You both die painfully even after you donate your kidney. Best case scenario, you go through an extremely painful process and pay for the surgery and then pay for everything the stranger wants to buy for 18 whole years. Do you think you should have the choice to not donate your kidney? If not, what does this mean for bodily autonomy under the law? If you think you should be legally required to give your kidney in this situation, how far could the government go? If your right to keep your kidney in this situation is not respected, how do you know the government won't take that further and restrict bodily autonomy in other areas? Are you ok with the government deciding who does and who doesn't get to keep their organs?

My big issue with the prolife movement has always been how it tries to claim that it’s “preserving life” and “helping people” while actively doing so much more harm than any abortion that’s not being done with a wire hanger. I’m someone who’s been personally hurt in multiple ways by the prolife movement despite never even considering terminating a pregnancy myself. First off I, like a lot of other people in the comments, was an unplanned pregnancy. I was born to parents who weren’t emotionally or financially ready to have a baby. My mother was resentful and abusive, and any time I told her I was unhappy with my life or hurt by how she treated me she’d basically retroactively threaten me with how she should have gotten an abortion or abandoned me as a baby so I should be grateful I was even alive. We lived in a house that was falling apart and unsafe. We often went hungry. I was left alone from a very young age and would cry myself to sleep after weeks of not seeing my parents. As a teen I was suicidally depressed and abused worse after my mother remarried a man who hated me even more than she did. I ran away from home and lived on the streets. I tried to end my life multiple times. I’m in a better place now and no longer wish to end my life, but 5 good years after a lot of hard work and therapy and support from my adult friends I never got growing up doesn’t mean the first 20 years of never having my needs met and actively wanting to die go away. In fact it left some scars so deep I’ll probably never recover from it. It is so horrible to knowing let children suffer bc there is a possibility they might one day have a better life you have no intention of bringing into existence. Another big reason I was hurt by the prolife movement is that I have fertility problems. At one point the town I lived in had a Planned Parenthood that could’ve provided health screenings and contraception and OB checkups bur they were literally run out of town by our local pro-lifers even tho the clinic never provided abortions. Bc of this and the fact that my abusive parent worked at the only hospital in our area, I wasn’t able to get any kind of birth control other than condoms, which promptly failed and left me with an unplanned pregnancy I couldn’t see the doctor to monitor. I actually didn’t want to end my pregnancy, just make sure I had a healthy baby bc I was about to move out with and get married to my high school sweetheart. Unfortunately I had a serious complication that could have been found early if I’d been able to have checkups but instead only came up after it threatened my life. I’d tried to get an ultrasound early on at the CPC that’d replaced PP in our town but was turned away for literally lifesaving medical help bc I told them I wasn’t considering an abortion. The same people also found out I’d lost my pregnancy and started telling people around town that I was a baby killer after I not only lost a baby I already had a name and a nursery for, but also nearly died in the process and had my fiancé break off our engagement bc he was too emotionally messed up by what happened... I also had to have a D&C as I’d only partially miscarried but wound up having to wait for WEEKS and eventually travel to a different state bc despite my baby having no heartbeat my state officially decided it counted as a late term abortion which would have been illegal. I wound up developing sepsis and almost died for a second time. In the last couple years I’ve learned that that initial lost pregnancy and the fact that I was forced to wait for treatment after losing it directly caused damage to my uterus that has made it impossible for me to carry a pregnancy to term now. I’ve lost 3 more pregnancies since then and am actively trying to get my tubes tied bc getting pregnant is both something I’m extremely capable of and something that is nearly guaranteed to cause me serious physical and psychological harm. In the process I’ve learned that the same groups that rally against abortion have also rallied against contraception and sterilization. I have to fight every single month with my insurance company to cover my life-saving contraception bc they’re catholic owned and as such think preventing pregnancy is as bad as ending it. They won’t cover my tubal ligation either despite it being for a medically necessary reason, but even if they did literally every doctor I’ve talked to has said they won’t bc I’m too young, not married (despite being engaged to a man who I made this decision with), or don’t have any children yet. They literally won’t let me make a decision about my body or my life when the stakes are life or death bc they are so sure they know better for me than I do and seem to demand I use my body to make babies based on their personal beliefs. I’m not even preventing myself from having children, just making it so if I do it’s safely, using a surrogate so I don’t die in the process, and genetic testing so I don’t pass down my health issues to my children. But there are simply too many people with a vested interest in what I do with my womb ready to straight up sacrifice me for no gain then say they were doing the moral, godly, life-respecting thing by forcing me into a deadly position.

Since it wasn’t brought up in the video, I feel like this movie is slander in a way to Planned Parenthood. I feel like pureflixs could probably get sued over this since none of there claims about the company are true(theres no evidence) and could actually be considered “hurting the reputation of the company”. Why haven't they responded to this movie? My conclusion based on previous swift response by ACLU on prayer, gay discrimination, etc is that PP doesn't want to draw attention to itself at this time.
