I remember playing Thracia for the first time and getting to this point. It was a shock that basically the whole Manster escape squad (as I like to call them) was out for the chapter. Then I played on and realized it wasn't that hard to keep people from being fatigued. Callion is one of my favorites to use, granted I'm not what you'd call an "efficient" or "optimal" player.

Ah Callion/Carrion. I didn't think much of him at first, but he consistently performed very well, including some lucky con and a move level. Male cavs are pretty good due to swords amd lances while mounted However, my Carrion story is a bit darker. As I said, I never really thought much of him to start. But I kept getting impressed, and he quickly became my strongest fighter by far. Always on the front lines, spearheading every charge, including chapter 13 where speed is paramount. However, during the retreat in chapter 19, Carrion was in the lower squad. The next turn, the pursuers would catch up to the squad and kill someone slower or weaker like Lifis or Selphina, so Carrion stood in the way, and he died for his efforts, and everyone got away alive. I considered resetting, as he was my strongest fighter, but I figured that he went out exactly how he would want to, being the hero that Leif needed when he needed it. Maybe it's just the Metal Gear player in me, but that was truly the moment that made me love this game, despite everything.

2:21- Good old Fatigue. Certainly a scarier system for new comers and can be annoying if someone fatigues right before a chapter where they need to recruit someone, but outside of that, I love this system. So nice for a game to encourage you to use most of your roster and adds a nice counterbalance to stalling out/grinding that isn't a system where you just deny the player EXP or force a few billion enemy reinforcements onto you. I do think it does suffer a bit later when most of your units have like 40 to 60 HP later, but I still really like fatigue, how it functions in the context of a FE game, and especially within the context of you leading a small rebellion and have to worry about exhausting your army (which really is a huge thing to manage in wars as well) and need to make sure you don't push them too far. 3:10- Ah, so that's how it works. I knew Staff users accrue fatigue faster when they used better quality staves, but never realized by how much for each one. 3:36- For healing yes... Not quite for using other staves since you REALLY want to make sure your best Staff Users (those with higher staff rank) avoid being fatigued at the same time. Pretty sure I said it back during Safy's bio, but for any new comer to this game, ROTATE YOUR STAFF USERS. Get in a pattern of going through different sets of them after each map and you should generally avoid screwing yourself out of your best staff users being fatigued at once. 4:10- And trust us new comers, you want Asbel to sit out for this chapter. You REALLY want him for Chapter 8x. 6:56- That's nice with how this QoL works. Lets you be able to judge the game properly with how it originally was and lets you bypass that if need be. 7:02- Although looks like they messed with the order if you used the QoL. For those keeping it works normally, not that if you wanted to "move" characters, you would need to deploy/undeploy units instead as the unit order on this list is fixed until the next map where the units you just used all get moved to the top. 9:26- Okay they keep his name as Dorius. Thank you Lil Munster people for keeping it like this and F^^^ you FEH for giving him a worse name. The second FEH localization I dislike the most after "Coyote's Men." 11:30- While I know he's not as well liked anymore, I'll always use Callion. Fun unit all around once he's trained and I still find Thracia a forgiving game to field two or three project units alongside your usual meta and underrated units, so he's not that much of a burden. He is a heavier investment, but he at least comes when most of the good units you have now are close to promoting or already promoted, so you can afford to use this chapter to get him caught up them since you will be burning some time trying to capture the boss, so he can go around snagging kills or farming the stream of brigands. I fully admit he's leaning closer to the average side of Thracia's roster, but average in Thracia is still better than other mid tiers in other FE games and he's still FAR better than the worst that this game can offer. He's the last worthwhile early(ish?) growth/investment unit in the game before you get the worthwhile Ests, so this is your last call for early pet projects before you supplement your ranks with solid pre promotes and said Ests. Decent unit and a fun project unit that isn't as bad some experts claims nor as broken his most devoted will argue. However, for everything good and holy DO NOT use that steel lance to train him up since it's an awful weapon on him until he gets more stats. Bring the lad an extra iron sword or two and he can start catching up. Also crusader scrolls to make use of his growths better, though that leans more into favoritism admittedly. 11:54- We've gone from Marty Party to Marty is Over Party. Traitor. Also don't do what Klingy does here with Marty; Make sure he has no weapons by the end of Chapter 3, kill the guard on the shop, and you'll get to see Marty buying a free weapon for you. lol 12:20- ? This I've never heard of before, but I wonder what you're plotting Klingy... 14:37- Okay, now I think you're just willing these staff misses into existence. 19:39- Wait what?! How have I never known about this? 20:03- LMAO That said, apology not accepted since that was a weak ^ss apology Marty. lol 42:17- Yeah, this boss is a pain to catch. Might get some flak for it, but I make Finn one of my first promoted units after Asbel JUST for this prick and to have someone who can capture him more easily. In other news, my baby is back. And by baby, I mean my Switch. Finally came back from repairs yesterday and everything's good now. The battery indicator is fixed, but it looks like they replaced a few other parts without extra charge to do so, which was nice. Gave me 15 more days of Switch Online and best part is that I didn't need to redownload everything that I owned. Now that I have it back, what's next? As much as I would LOVE to jump into Trails from Azure, already playing a kind of long (and low key difficult eventually) RPG with ARF and I really want to play a game I can get into quicker, so I... Back to Battle Brothers for a Deserter Run! Half joking, though I am still playing Battle Brothers (the book I've been reading is Witch Hunter: A Battle Brothers Novel, so I'm REALLY back into the mood playing the game as I have several more chapters left in the book), but also I'm now playing Advance Wars Reboot Camp as a part of my Christmas haul. Still not too far into it, blame Battle Brothers, but I look forward to playing it as well. Once I've gotten my fill of quicker and more "gamey" games, then it'll likely be onto Trails to Azure or another Christmas game I got that I couldn't play until my Switch got fixed.

@jaredfayette2567 While it isn't my favourite mechanic to encourage the use of more units, I still really like fatigue because it does do that and combine that with the scrolls and it leads to a lot of units being nice and strong by the end of the playthrough which is quite satisfying. You could say it is a way to try and balance staves but staves are still overpowered. I remember in my playthrough, my staff units were relatively fine on fatigue so I didn't feel like I needed to rotate them out. That might be because they were only using staves and not really fighting. I think I have seen the seen the 8x boss die to the Flame Sword but Asbel is going to be much better at dealing magical damage. Since I was manipulating the deployment order when I was playing Project Exile, being able to move units around just makes that process much easier. That is something you agree with my brother considering he is a big Wolf fan. You can do a lot worse at this point in the game when it comes to training a low level horse unit and one reason for Callion's case is his class since it is decently versatile thanks to using swords on and off the mount so you can bring him indoors. There are reasons why people don't consider him the best and calling him a second Fergus might be a bit of a stretch but I think he is solid and this map is a great way to get him off the ground. That did happen with me which was quite funny. Also Marty not having a weapon does mean he is a free capture if you want to recruit him that way. His apologies are very weak no matter how you recruit him. Great to hear that the Switch is back in business. Reload Camp will be fun to hear about especially with AW2 since I did my S rank playthrough in 2023 and you can read my comments with Klingy's AW2 videos if you want to recall my experience of that playthrough during your own. I wish you continued luck with ARF as well as your return to Battle Brothers. As for myself, more Innocent Sin recording although it will be back to researching since the Ultimate Personas are on the horizon. I am also thinking of whether I mutate my Genbu into Quetzalcoatl since the latter is a really cool Persona I haven't used before but doing that means I would need to summon Genbu an additional two times to get his return item and to keep him around for fusion spells but this is something I could work on off screen. With Eternal Punishment, I am almost ready to take on the next dungeon especially after learning a get rich quick scheme to help me buy more expensive skill cards for my Personas. There is one thing I want to do before taking it on and that is level up Ebisu which is kind of annoying since they don't learn an offensive skill until rank 7 out of 8 so all they can do is heal which might be the way it gets to rank 7. My brother started his Final Fantasy VII remake playthrough and he is currently on Chapter 4 with our last play session being mostly side quests but also Tifa's debut who is one of my brother's favourite characters.

@@BerserkerRohan Yeah, even if you aren't a fan, the things this mechanic encourages is great. Really goes to show how broken Staves are in spite of the high fatigue use of the best ones. The Light Brand and Flame Sword are also really good answers, but Asbel is still your best bet. I did the same as well. Wasn't always easy and could be annoying, but it was worth it. Thank you to your brother for supporting the Wolfgaurd name. That we can, hence why I'm a lot nicer to Callion, especially when he comes in as a free deploy on a low stakes map where him getting kills and training can be done separately while the main objective is done by the better units. Calling Callion econd Fegus is very much a stretch since not many other physical combat units can compare to Fergus, but he's still a rather versatile unit thanks to being able to use his sword rank really well indoors on top of having Javelin access, which does become a viable tool once he gets the stats to fix that weapon's weaknesses in this game. They really are. I know people really love him as a meme, but character wise I'm honestly really not a fan of him because of this map. Yes, being pressed into service by Gomez makes a lot of sense given that SoB's stats, but Marty's response to join back up really rubbed me the wrong way. Many thanks on all fronts. Once I get more into Reboot Camp and curve my Battle Brothers addiction, I'll be sure to give updates on it. I'll keep your comments in mind when I hit the AW2 half of Reboot Camp. Hope all the stuff with Genbu goes well depending on what you do with him in IS. Forgive me if you've explained this before with me and my crummy memory strikes again, but have you mentioned Mutations before? Sounds interesting as a mechanic since it sounds like a similar idea to Demon Evolutions, which is always neat to me in Megaten games. Best of luck with Ebisu's level up and any other last minute preps you'll need to make. Well done to your brother on FFVIIR. Not really sure how far Chapter 4 is into for that game given how much the remake is stretching things out, but if his favorite character is on screen then that's good progress in my books.

@@jaredfayette2567 That is very true. At least there was an attempt to try and balance outside of reducing their range. I think I also raised the HP of some of my staff units which probably helped. I did wish I trained him in my playthrough but like Shiva, he ended up getting overshadowed by other units I wanted to train like Nanna on this map but there are always future playthroughs. He is very stupid but that could be seen as a charm of Marty as well. That will be a fun playthrough to hear about and having those past comments of my past AW exploits is nice since I don't remember that playthrough the best outside certain missions. One type of mutation that can happen to Personas at the highest ranks is they can mutate into another Persona and those tend to be Personas from the minor Arcana with Quetzalcoatl being Wand Arcana. I feel like I will go for it since grinding up more Genbus off screen is annoying but I did think of ways to finish it up quicker. I might get some advice about this.

Everyone is tired from running. Except Leif, he's immune to fatigue. Main character privileges. 0:56 Okay we're taking that headcanon now. 1:17 Which he can't have because Thracia. 1:44 Can't bring Fergus, he was too good. 2:05 ...specifically an E rank staff? 3:03 Ah. And even as the high rank staves give more fatigue, they're still busted. 4:20 So we will have to rotate between characters. If this weren't a Fire Emblem game i'd say Leif would get severely overleveled compared to the rest. 4:37 At last, the convoy. 5:32 But money does not exist. 5:52 This is completely fair and understandable favoritism for Pugi man. 6:33 One of the few "because Thracia" moments that you can actually remove. 7:49 As i am a new character for this game i get to be in your party without the potential of causing paradoxes. 10:21 Cavalier out of 10- wait x4 FCM? 11:50 MARTY PARTY! ...we're on the wrong side of it now. 14:10 And it *will* kill you as statuses are permenent in this game. 16:48 No more poison bow for you. 20:12 We captured the Marty Party and he became blue. 22:18 He's a... dismounted Dracoknight. Spyro worshipping bandits... that's an image. Fatigue is certainly an interesting mechanic, I wonder how much it actually impacts gameplay though. Carrion feels like someone who might get a bit more importance storywise in a remake, from that recruitment dialogue at least. A shame he's got Halvan syndrome. A boss that mounts in order to block off access to the gaiden chapter... that's certainly interesting.

On paper, the system's meant to encourage players to rotate between more units than they would in other FEs, which is cool! But in practice, I had the stamina drinks to refresh my mains if I needed/wanted to. I think I _overprepared_ because I still had a few drinks by the time the game was over. Pretty rough time with the Warrior and the boss, almost hit the time limit. On the other hand, Carrion really showing how a Leif crit support is a big stat swing with basically +40 crit on the second hit for him. 0:50 FE6 likes this motion of circling around the map before battle preps too. 2:00 Other actions that give EXP like Steal will increase fatigue too, which is at least some incentive to not grind, but you could also just grind in one map and be done with it, though you may also prefer to wait for certain scrolls I guess. 7:00 It is also to be noted that you couldn't really rearrange people by deselecting them like in FE3 or other games either, units will always be sorted in order of where they fall in the entire deployment list, and the only way to manipulate it was to adjust who you deploy in certain chapters ahead of time to move them ahead in the list, which even then is still limited and forces some units into certain deployment slots if they were just recruited in the previous chapter (like the final character which will usually be forced into the bottom left room which is fitting). This combined with minimum deployment is admittedly used to interesting effect, and I feel it is worth noting rearrangement as a setting that changes what's possible from original gameplay. Previewing deployment is pretty nice though, but Marty not showing on the preps map still kind of feels in the same spirit of surprising the player on the map. 23:00 I'm pretty sure Dagdar/Tanya being captured counts as the same as them being dead in terms of getting 8x, which means you can skip 8x and still get full recruitment in the end. Nice to see staff doubling come into play on screen too, and another double Safy miss on top of that. I kind of like Rumei/the boss here, on the small scale he's just here for a part time job, but it makes for a relatable moment for Leif in the big picture. It's a shame you hear more about his dedication to his family in his death or release quotes. One of August's Heroes quotes comes from the ending if you don't get 8x: "A thousand pegasi led by one dragon can defeat a thousand dragons led by one pegasus."

After a brief look at Spyro's backstory in Skylanders(Yes all Skylanders have a backstory that's more often than not doesn't play a role in the game) as well as some of the canon side material, Skylanders Spyro seems to be a mishmash of elements of the original (Emphasis in Fire in his attacks, Sparx(I think Sparx is more so og Spyro), and in side material was found in an area that seems to come from Ripto's Rage) and Legend(Cynder, Purple Dragons being more of a thing(I think that's specifically Legend), and the lore bit that Spyro could have used any element)

@@BigKlingy Probably. Personally, Finn in the early game doesn’t get much use from me except for capturing, so he doesn’t tend to get many levels. At best, I’ll have him solo the Shiva myrmidon squad but not much else. But I’m also a pretty stingy player when it comes to personal weapons that can break. So I’m sure I actively hold Finn back more than probably necessary by equipping him with javelins and short lances as quickly as possible.

The one who I used to capture the boss was DALSIN of all people (he even got a very good level after the capture) and the one who I thought would have been my best bet for capturing the boss the fatigued for the map (I think that was Fergus or Brighton) and I think I had Finn sat out on this map by virtue of axe central even if he was probably just fine anyway. I’m pretty positive as well I got the boss the first turn I attacked on him because I had fear of him mounting after he gets attacked similar to the FE7 Kishuna disappearing the turn you attack them. Carrion: I think I glossed over the fact entirely that he was allowed both swords and lances on mount which was a shame because had I realized that, I may have tried to invest into him given that I knew what was coming for later lategame maps lets say. But then again, even if he had training project energy, I just didn’t feel up to the task of training him up with my time with the game.

Later on you CAN buy Stamina Drinks, and Chapter 14x gets you enough of them to get you through the rest of the game, so eventually the mechanic means less (and as your HP increases you're less likely to get tired), so actually it's a little like Persona 3's Tired/Sick system when I think about it.

-Yeah Callion's not a bad training project, but what's he doing joining with a heavy steel lance? We have to set this kid straight. -I'm fairly sure poison damage ranges from 1-3 in most if not all FE games, even this one. -I'm fairly sure the rule of thumb of what enemies enemies don't take (scrolls and Prfs) is anything that can't be sold. Easy programming overlap I imagine? -Marty providing exp to Finn, I can get behind this! -First 99 miss that I've noticed of the playthrough, always amazing. -Promoting Finn helps A LOT with capturing the boss. You can also bring a thief to steal away his vulnerary, and the super pro move is to steal a scroll ONTO him so Finn can just attack 4x at full strength and accuracy with the brave lance and weaken him for proper capturing. Otherwise, you're just rolling the RNG dice and wasting lots of uses of the brave lance (and other weapons) -The hit rate formula for healing staves is 60 + skill*4. -I like to use the luck ring on Finn so it increases his Miracle proc rate, but it's probably the least significant ring and you could even just sell it to buy wind tomes later or something. -Next chapter should be a lot of fun, against The Great Gomez!

I remember being fearful of fatigue based on how people talked about it prior to playing Thracia, and then I played the game and realized, “Oh this isn’t bad at all.” I had units on rotation in case ppl were fatigued and there were some maps where I would deploy less people so ppl could heal up if they were close to getting fatigued. I think it’s a great mechanic and hope it comes back one day. Honestly, Thracia very much is a game that people in the FE space hype up as like this daunting, incredibly HARD video game. And look sure, Thracia has its moments here and there, but its reputation of being “hard” is grossly exaggerated. I hope one day that gets remedied. Conquest is much more difficult even with units like Xander and Camilla. Awakening’s Lunatic is more difficult. Oh man, his localized name is Carrion huh…I’m so used to saying Callion 😭. Either way, he was one of my best units. I really like him! That Paragon sword he gets eventually is really useful. I think he was one of the few mounted units I actually used in the indoor maps at the end of the game. I didn’t realize he was considered sort of meh. I just checked my Thracia file and he had 19 strength, 4 magic, 20 skill, 20 speed, 20 luck, 14 defense, and 11 con dismounted on the final map. Safy still missing 😭. Seems like she has a vendetta against you lol. Nanna was the staff user who missed the most with me lol (well until she got 10 skill of course).

It's really not that bad once you realize it's more just encouragement to bench your mounted units during indoor maps. And you get plenty of staff users to rotate out. After several chapters relentless challenges finally Thracia gives the player a nice breather chapter. Just be sure the re-recruit MARTY PARTY and capture the boss. Though there is another strategy you can do to capture the boss but you do have to get a bit lucky: If Lithis gains 1 point of con on any of his levels he can steal the boss’ Iron sword allowing you to immediately capture him with someone else. This makes the end of the chapter much easier but that requires both a con Level up from Lithis AND he has to not be fatigued. Carrion: I think he’s a decent unit. He definitely starts out a lot weaker than I think he should (Much like Nanna I think he should have been given +1 or 2 to most of his stats) but I don’t mind training him and his FCM of 4 is always nice to have. Next time, one of the Hardest bosses in all of FE no joke.

Ah Fatigue, one of Thracia's more infamous mechanics. On my first few playthroughs I was absolutely terrified of Fatigue and stockpiled Stamina Drinks (of which I only used a handful, but better safe than sorry). I am interested to see how BK handles this mechanic. This chapter can be quite a pain if you're unprepared. On the previous chapter I Crusader Scroll Arena Abuse Finn to JUST under his fatigue limit and promote him to Duke Knight for the extra stats to make capturing the boss of this chapter easier. Asbel usually gets the 2nd Master Seal and promotes in the side quest coming up next.

*Unit Review* Callion's name in the old translation was Carrion, the word used for rotting animal corpses. This is a good summary of his performance. Alright, credit where it's due cavalier's a good class, he has a good FCM, and a vigor star. But his bases stink and his weapon ranks are *horrid.* That's what really kills him. If he at least switched his lance rank with his sword rank he'd be a little better but still. It doesn't help that we get a prepromoted Paladin with good bases and nearly perfect weapon ranks in just a few chapters.

Like there are times where Kaga will intentionally throw out conventional game design logic for the sake of narrative (I WILL have EXTREMELY pointed words for the more mechnically oriented ones). Obscuring where your units start has nothing to do with the narrative, nothing to do with nessicarily difficulty, and more or less exists *exclusively* to mess with the player and it's a large part of why I refuse to play any of Kaga's post-Nintendo games.
