This is the world-famous scene from the Daredevil movie (directors cut), Kingpin breaks one of his bodyguard's neck with one hand.

Frankly, I think this movie gets more hate than it deserves. Sure, it's not a great movie. But it did have some decent concepts. Michael Clark Duncan made a good Kingpin, and they got Daredevil and his powers mostly right. The soundtrack was very...late 90s-early 2000s? And the dialog wasn't going to win any awards. But I feel like this movie was more par for the course for similar movies of the era. I don't think it was worse than the Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movie for example, and they gave that one a sequel!

Definitely agree, fantastic performance. I kinda miss when Marvel hadn't gone full hollywood yet, I mean the quality of the films was all over the place, some movies were good, some movies were bad, but at least they weren't predictable. And I like the edge, the darker, mature tone they had, but it didn't detract from the humor, they either used it sparingly or achieved humor differently, I mean the first iron man, being the first mcu film, is probably the closest to an older marvel movie with it's tone, and of course the fact they were shot on film and not digital made them inherently look good to me. I don't hate the MCU, they make good films and okay films but if you're watching them in marathon you can feel the similarities between them kind of too easily.

Michael Clarke Duncan makes a badass kingpin
@MrPjw59 жыл бұрын
Just finished the Daredevil series on Netflix... I am honestly evenly split on both portrayals of the Kingpin. I mean, Vincent D'Onofrio did a hell of a job, and scared the shit out of me with how he could be so ruthless, both from the shadows and in plain sight. He could get people of any background to do anything for him, and if he needed to get his hands dirty, he could do it with twisted and carnal rage. He could execute a man with equal amounts of brutality with a phone call or with his bare hands. However, I think Michael Clarke Duncan could have done the exact same thing were he still alive to play the role. I mean, he kind of did it right here in this scene. I miss the big guy a lot. He was one of the bright spots of this movie, which was pretty bad in retrospect.

The faces and sounds that MCD make while choking the second bodyguard are terrifying as hell. I’m not usually all about race-bending a character, but he played the Kingpin role so damn well and looked like he was having fun doing it.

I usually like it when characters are kept the same racially in adaptations (i’m black myself) but to deny this casting would have been ridiculous. Listen to his voice, look at his natural size. Phenomenal

Something only a blind person would say and have their sighted friend right on KZbin. The only pass on changing the characters racial ethnicity in an adaptation is if they still look like the character

A sadness that there wasn't more of Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin in other movies, it would have been incredible to see him against Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Thomas Jane's Punisher and if the third Spider-Man movie had had a more focused story in Sandman without Venom, they could put Flint Marko as a guy who works for Fisk in exchange for money to take care of his daughter Penny and after Marko becomes Sandman, Fisk makes a deal with him to bring the Spider-Man in exchange for a fortune to pay for Penny's treatments

Both this and Vincent's portrayals were amazing in their own takes on the character but I always found this version much more menacing because he seems to enjoy inflicting suffering as much as he can, especially expression after breaking his bodyguards neck

I miss this guy :( I didn't even see this film, but he was good in Armageddon, great in the Green Mile, and I also saw a film where he was a cop and his dog had to be given away to civilians.... um, idk, a one time only comedy it was. Anyway, he died too soon.
