I have the Reckless 80 for my Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro. It is indeed very "strappy." There is a learning curve. In the first few trips, you will never pack it the same way twice, and when you ride off, you will habitually stop a short distance away to reassure yourself that you did, indeed, secure every one of those straps. However, you will soon figure out the best way to pack for you and your stuff, you'll develop a routine for tightening and securing the straps, and you will realize that it's not designed to be convenient, it's designed to be secure. For stuff you need convenient access to, get a tank bag. When you pack the Reckless, you don't touch it again until you get to your next campsite. Mounted and packed correctly, all that textile and plastic becomes part of the bike. Crank in the preload to deal with the added weight, and the bike handles beautifully. No flapping or movement. I put my "house" (tent, rain fly, sleeping bag, sleeping pad) in the top bag, my "kitchen" in the left bag, my clothing/toiletries in the right bag, and miscellaneous tools and accessories in the two aux pox slung below the main bags. Under the beavertail, but outside the top bag, I secure my camp chair and tent poles (pole bag included with the set). Arrive at camp, empty the top bag to set up the tent and sleeping arrangements. Stow the side bags under the rain fly until you need to get something out of them, remove the harness and place it inside the tent. Now you have a "clean" bike and that top bag can become either a backpack or a tailbag (with the help of two rok straps to secure it to the rear rack), which you can use to bring back groceries (even ice!) from the nearest store. I've ridden with them in hours of driving rain with no leakage. Mosko even includes a dry bag so you can keep your sleeping gear dry inside the top bag when you have to pack a wet rain fly. it's incredibly versatile, tough as nails, lighter than a rack-mounted system, and cheaper to buy. Highly recommended.

Where did you strap your side straps? I literally just put my reckless 80 on my tiger 850 sport and secured it to the frame. But I’ve been some guys secure it to the passenger pegs.

Most recently, I actually lowered the angle of the side holsters (from 3 to 2, as marked on the yoke) to put the straps more in line with the passenger footpeg brackets. This puts the side holsters a bit closer to vertical, which makes loading the bags easier. Before, I'd lash them to the vertical sections of the subframe or the main frame, but this had the bags going in almost horizontally, and had the straps a bit too close to hot parts of the engine (on the main frame) or pulling the bags inward toward the subframe, which warps the inside of the holster a bit, making it that much more difficult to slide the loaded dry bags in.

The one big reason I go with the Backcountry is the ease of removing the panniers. As an old half crippled guy, I find lifting the bike very difficult in many situations. Being able to remove the panniers while the bike is down a great advantage.

I don't think that's true. I bought my R80 in Feb 21 and even then they cost ~ 670€ with Aux Poxes and tax. Maybe you compare the price from then without tax to the price now with tax? So it's more like 35% But yeah I know, still a lot of money. But I'm sure Mosko stuff will last for decades and it pays off.

I've enjoyed being able to have my Reckless 80 on multiple bikes. I will agree it's not ideal when it comes to getting in and out of them or taking them off, but when you know you're going to go through different bikes often, as some of us do, it can save money. I don't look forward to carrying it to the hotel room, but at least I can fit them on different bikes. Plus, I do like the smaller size. I also feel that it helps you size down on what you bring with you. Great video, Ian. My wife who also watching your videos with me, hopes you are your family are doing well.

I have both as well. Tha main reason i got the Reckless 80 was the ability to use it on diffrent bikes when i travel (they also pack flat in a suitcase but the need to be disassembled). Regarding handling what i found is that the main advantage is that as they are placed diagonaly towards the center of mass of the bike, they exert less sag (because of leverage) on teh rear susspension. Finally more space is a trap. The more space and bags you have the more stuff you actually don't need take, having less space makes you be much more economical with bike weight.

I have the Vario hard lockable luggage, and the Mosko Reckless 80ltr, these two are expensive but worth it and used for different styles of riding, for budget I would highly recommend Lomo, these are cheap but are absolutely superb for using offroad, I have many different rollbags and duffels from Lomo, also I have the large motorcycle panniers from them, they are 100% waterproof tried and tested on both the bike and on the kayak, and I have done thousands of miles now with my 40ltr Lomo rollbag and the 60ltr duffel. Lomo definitely worth a look at for the price.

@@mauruseisenring6203 you may get away with it if adjust the angle at which the saddle bags are fixed, it is adjustable so if you have them angled straight down it may allow for leg room for your pillion.

They are very expensive to buy if you are in Australia. I made my own rackless bags but welded a lightweight steel frame/rack so that I can strap the bags so that they don't bounce off the side of the bike and ruin the sidecovers plus you don't need shields on the muffler. YOu could buy the True NOrth side frame/rack and you have the lightest possible system plus you can easily attach the rear straps to the rack.

My go to is a Givi top case - never leaves the bike. MM soft side cases. Wolfman small duffel for camping gear - tent, bag, pad and cooking gear. This is a setup up for multiple day or multi week trips. If I go into a motel for a night, I don't want to be spending 20 minutes unpacking.

You can’t go wrong either way. Quality is top notch, you can tell they’re riders that design this stuff. I’ve been using the Reckless 80 and when I get to hotel or campsite I just pull out the dry bags and take them inside. Crash-proof too. The only downside is they rob some rear seat space if you ride 2 up. I keep mine forward on the rack/seat tail for weight distribution.

I have both! I find myself using the back country way more often. One important detail is if you set up camp and then want to go ride somewhere for dinner or wherever the Reckless system is floppy on the back of the bike without being full of gear. My other complaint with the Reckless is it is super difficult to pack in my opinion. I am always struggling to shove things in it and that is not the case with the back country.

I bought the Reckless 40 and added the Stinger 22. That was significantly cheaper and is completely sufficient in terms of capacity for my needs. I added the whole thing with the tank bag from Moskomoto (Nomax). I would do it again at any time and do without a metal case. I also had a replacement motorcycle because mine was at customer service and could easily switch the system to this without having any problems.

I have it on my T700. Mosko gear is top notch (and expensive). One problem is that when any grey sack is full it becomes very hard to insert it back in the black part attached on the bike. So you have to get your stuff out, insert the near empty bag and load it again. Good to teach you to travel light but annoying. Second problem is when you have to unload the whole bike so to sleep in an hotel or a similar situation. Even if you leave the two small bags on the bike (then anybody can easily steal the inside if the motorbike is not in a safe spot) you need to walk carrying three bags, your helmet, gloves, jacket etc. Then, stairs and small elevators become a challenge. So not much fun either. Therefore is best to have a safe parking and reshuffle thing in a single bag to carry with you. However while doing so it might be raining or be pitch dark.. 😅. I wonder if giant loop gives similar issues.

What I don't like about these types of bags (not only Mosko Moto) is the folding for keeping contents dry. That's a lot of material, makes access to contents difficult, and looks funky. I have an old great basin Giant Loop (from before Mosko Moto) that is simple, light, and does the job. Combine that with a Nelson Rigg top bag (with a rain cover) or similar and all is good.

Excellent as always but I believe one point in favor of a rackless system was left out. A rackless system whether Giant loop, Tusk or Moskomoto is excellent crash protection for the bike whereas a rack system, especially with hard panniers, is one more thing to break in a crash. Plus all of the rackless systems have really good grab straps to help lift the bike if you need to.

I have the Reckless 80 and I find it frustrating to pack. The holsters limit how much you can pack into the left and right bags. You can’t actually fill them to their rated capacity or they won’t fit in the holsters. The rubberized waterproof bags stick rather than slide when trying to get them into the holsters so I find it’s best to slide the bags into the holsters empty and then fill them or they won’t slide in at all. The bags for the aux pox have the same issue. I don’t even use the included bags in these pockets. My tool roll goes in the right in it’s own textile bag and my plastic camp shoes go in the other. I love the beaver tail and stinger top bag though. As someone else said the top bag is where I put my shelter/sleep system and the chair fits under the beaver tail too. I can even easily stow my jacket under the beaver tail if it’s too warm to wear it. I find the MOSKO MOTO gear is generally over built and of great quality. I have their Basilisk and ectotherm jackets which I love but just bought the Kriega OS soft panniers and OS40 rack bag with Sw Motech racks for my Tiger Rally Pro. I think the Reckless is going up for sale.

I have a very Tuareg-specific question, how did the reckless 80 fit on there with the exhaust ? is the provided heatshield enough protection for the luggage ? I ask because i already burned a backseat bag on the exhaust because of how high it sits

I will be the nay-sayer. I had a V2 on a 690 for one trip. I couldn't keep it from getting hit by the swingarm. Straps also were getting abraded. Refilling the tank was a pain, even with the access hole. Small compartmentalized luggage makes it more difficult to pack. Destroyed the plastics. The actual quality of the bags was good. I'm generally happier with soft panniers with racks and a top duffle. With panniers and racks, I can choose to just run the panniers without the top bag, or just run the top bag depending on what my goal is for the trip.

It seems to be nice, I have a few questions btw: 1) is it overpriced? In Portugal, it’s about more than 800. Nice luggage but your bike is AWESOME! Where did you get that custom graphics set? No way, is that a Rubberdust set, it is so badass. Do you have anything in your videos about it, I have not seen anything yet, did you apply them yourself? Is that the acid yellow color? I may have missed it but any bag that is strapped to your bike may rub/scratch the painted areas, fairings, etc. I have a tank bag and, when I went off-road, enough dust/dirt got between the bag and my GS tank and, now, my white tank has permanent brown marks all over it.

They are extremely well made and thought out. Unfortunately they are so well made they are up to 3x heavier than my lightweight bags and that kind of defeats the purpose of rackless luggage. Also very expensive All the one you see on KZbin are gifted to tubers so they can rave over them. I do have a friend who loves his though. On a 300kg GSA!

Ian, great video again. However i still can’t decide which to buy. I have a Husqvarna Norden Expedition. Would you be able to advise how it would sit over the rear panels and hand rails? Width is one of the important considerations for me. Weight distribution next. However the convenience of the outback is attractive. I am looking at the V4 of the R80

Its cheaper because its cheaper. I still cant really get mine to fit my gs310. Their photo illustrations actually show their packs on bikes with pannier racks. Good I guess for the price-cheap, for other bikes..for light use ..etc.

Hey Ian, have you tried installing or can you show a video of the Reckless bags on your 890 with the Wings exhaust? Would the Wings heat shield be sufficient to protect the bags? I also have an 890 with the same muffler and wondering how they will fit. I also like the setup you have with the pannier racks, what racks are those and how do they fit the 890?

the 890 has the side fairings and grab handles that push the bag out, but I'd still use an extra shield on the exhaust. i have the outback motortek racks, love them

I've been considering getting these for my Honda 2015 CB500F. This set is expensive, but I also wouldn't have to buy anything else for it and I could put it on any bike I might upgrade to later on. I've looked everywhere for mid ranged priced pannier racks, but there aren't many out there that guarantees fitment. The ones for the CB500X also aren't a guaranteed fit, and I don't know who to ask if they would. So I'm limited on options. All of that being said are there any other saddlebag recommendations you can give me?

Great reviews Ian. After several month-long trips now with rack-mounted panniers, I'm a firm believer in keeping everything inside the width of the handle bars. I have also found that I usually pack more than I need. For these 2 reasons, I'm ditching the panniers and going rackless. Thanks again from Bolivia and looking forward to your next video.

I've been considering getting this for the very rare weekend getaways I do on my Monster and so I can move it to the next sport or naked bike I get. What's keeping me from buying it is that I already own the Fly Racing saddle bags and tail bag so I could just use one of their duffles to get more space when I really need it and not spend $900. Being able to take the bags out of the holsters is such a nice feature that makes them better than other rackless luggage systems like mine since you don't have to take the whole set up off and then put it back on. It was a pain taking my stuff off on my last trip. I'm considering buying this for a trip to Yosemite I'm doing in September, but that's a lot of straight highway miles that I would rather do in a car. However, I'd rather do the twisties on my motorcycle. Have you considered putting a bike rack from 2x2 cycles on any of your motorcycles? I've seen those bikes in the back, I know you ride too. I think the Reckless 80 may be compatible with 2x2 Cycles racks since they occupy different hardpoints. Jeff Kendall-Weed did a bike camping video with an 890 Adventure and he packed an MTB on the back. Pretty great video and there aren't enough videos of people doing rides like this.
