What questions do you have about the Bigscreen Beyond?
@Fry09294

What do you think of the FOV and brightness?
@ThisKory
@ThisKory Ай бұрын
 @Fry09294 FOV is not great coming from a Index or Quest 3, but it is adequate and the OLED blacks, rich colors, and high resolution panels make up for it (for me). Display brightness is mediocre, and something I will definitely touch more on in my full review. The brightness is good enough, but it is similar to FOV where it leaves some to be desired. I am currently running my Beyond at 65 brightness and 70 fan speed which is bright enough for me to feel satisfied, and as dark as possible so I can avoid the effects from persistence (which I definitely notice), which is the reason I run the dispalys at 65% brightness instead of 100%. That being said, like many other reviewers have said, you adapt and adjust to the lower brightness levels, and to be honest it's probably better to be looking at something not as bright, and running the displays at a lower brightness level also lowers heat. I want to end this by saying the OLED panels add a ton of value regarding brightness levels because you are seeing actual blacks, so the contrast is what makes up for those lower brightness levels as well and makes it feel a lot better and more realistic overall.

Hey, my IPD is absolutely 62 but I’m wondering if I should put it at 61 or 60 after hearing your experience and tips from the discord. Support hasn’t been much help and it’s pretty time sensitive so I’m very curious and concerned, thank you.
@ThisKory
@ThisKory 5 күн бұрын
@kdh_yt if you've used the Valve Index, a lot of people say they go -1 or -2 from the Index, so if you used 62 on the Index then 61 or 60 would be ideal from my experience. However, there have been people who have stuck with the face scan IPD given and haven't had issues, so it's an incredibly subjective discussion, and you simply need to do what you believe is best, based on the research you have done. The good news is that if your IPD is wrong, Bigscreen will help you the entire way until you get it right. Getting the Beyond in your hands is step 1, step 2 is determining if you need adjustments. If not, great! If you do need adjustments, then it will only be another couple of weeks before you have something that fits perfectly for you.

Thank you so much, because of your advice and the two on discord I changed it to 61, although they sent that email out a long time ago. Not sure if I’m “too late.” But thank you very much.

nice!! want one too - talking seat position. I am sitting more far away from the the wheel more like my real Sim Wheel is at, makes me more comfortable sitting a bit back.. doing that is a little complicated (Iracing replay - there is a button for cam, must be cockpit view than you can set x y z - and save it as default)
@ThisKory
@ThisKory Ай бұрын
Oh interesting! I actually never had this issue and feel fine in the default position in most cars. Actually, the only car I find myself having issues with is the new Audi GT3, it seems the steering rack wants to sit at an angle, so I need to shift my body position a little, then set cam view, and then things will look lined up proper when I go back to a neutral position. Otherwise, I am comfortable in every other car and I only ever adjust vertical height in the Blackbox. I totally understand wanting the perspective and wheel to line up with your real wheel, but I felt they are close enough where I don't really think about it. Vertical position seems to matter more for me, personally.

I almost bought a BigScreen Beyond, but then I bought 2 Quest 3’s instead. The form factor and display quality of the Beyond is revolutionary, but too many important features were sacrificed to achieve that. Hopefully they do well enough to bring a sequel product with more robust features, even if it means sacrificing on the size just a tiny bit.
@ThisKory
@ThisKory Ай бұрын
I agree, I think the small form factor is great, but I'd be ok adding another 100 grams to get larger displays and lenses for a larger sweet spot and better FOV.

On the discord someone mentioned that boosting brightness, to the point that black becomes gray, was a way to remove glare. What do you think about that trade off, is it worth it to you?
@ThisKory
@ThisKory Ай бұрын
Absolutely not. Not only does this negate the point of the OLED panels, but when you increase the brightness on these displays you start to see persistence, which is basically motion blur. Anything higher than 100% brightness and the motion blur is too much in the Beyond (for me). I've read the opposite where people lower their brightness to lower the glare. I personally use 65 brightness and that works for me, but some people said they use closer to 0 brightness and it helps with glare a bit. 0 brightness is surprisingly manageable, but it does look like you're wearing sunglasses so bright environments won't look as natural. I understand the idea of increasing brightness to lower glare, since glare is mostly seen during high contrast scenes, but then you start to uncover other problems regarding persistence, more heat from the displays, and higher fan noise levels because of it. This is something I'll discuss in details in my full review video. This is an interesting HMD and it definitely has its quirks, but I'm happy with it after understanding the headset more.
@808jonnysmith
@808jonnysmith 25 күн бұрын
The brightness they are referring to isn't the peak white level that will introduce more persistent. Instead they are referring to raising the black floor, so absolute black will now be gray. I personally wouldn't choose this as I highly value the black level and dark scene detail. I'll take glare instead.
@ThisKory
@ThisKory 23 күн бұрын
@@808jonnysmith Ah I understand. This makes more sense, but still negates the point of the OLED panels which is something I would not want to do personally. Thank you for sharing the details!

Their facial scan tries to get you close (if not perfect at times), but sometimes people will have to make adjustments. The cool thing is that these adjustments are free and the Bigscreen team seem to know what they're doing in this regard, so it's an easy process if you do need adjustments. The downfall is the further wait times. I also hope you, and everyone, receives a perfect unit for their face, but it's tough to get perfect on the first try currently, so be prepared mentally to make some adjustments. Just know that once adjustments are made, the experience is worth it.

Can you share your gpu and cpu spec? I have 3080 10gb 13600k and I assume I am way below spec to have an enjoyable 90hz experience for sim racing. To be honest because of my spec I am also hesitant to buy a quest 3. For context, I have a cv1 and the max I pull is Super sampling 2.5 on older games and 2.0 in ACC. Impossible to go higher because the card simply don't have enough vram.

@mrspangles932 Ай бұрын
You''ll be fine. I have a 7700X/3080 and just upgraded my CV1 to a Quest 3 (using link cable). Use openXR, dial in your settings and you'll find that you can happily run 90fps in most sim racing situations.

@gzaos I have a 9700K and 3080, and I can run anything so you'll be fine. You may have to do some tweaking to get some sims to run well, but it should be plenty doable with your hardware.

I got mine like a week ago and I hate everything about it. Worst thing about it is, they demand a 20% restock fee if I refund it. Meaning they will charge me 260 Euros just for the refund. I'll NEVER EVER buy anything from Bigscreen ever again. Scammer ass company.
@ThisKory
@ThisKory Ай бұрын
They are very transparent with their restocking fee... You feeling scammed because you failed to read their terms is beyond me.. pun intended. It sucks you had a poor experience, either way, and I hope you can get it resolved somehow. Perhaps you hated it because you need an adjustment? Needing an adjustment should be anticipated when ordering a custom piece of hardware tbh. I understand frustrations, but to say you were scammed is a bit overboard, don't you think?

Oh totally, if you prioritize FOV and FOV alone, then the Beyond isn't competing with high FOV headsets. The Beyond is in a league of its own. It's an ultra lightweight headset designed for comfort and to be tiny. Bigscreen achieved this, and created something new and fresh to the market that caters to people like me, who really benefit from the lightweight form factor. These are absolutely fantastic if you know what you want, and desire what the Beyond offers.

This statement makes me think you haven't tried many VR headsets. There are so many reasons I choose 90hz over 120 it 144 when I'm play my various headsets. The tech is sooo much better than 5 years ago. Put on a quest 3 even and you'll be blown away.

Think not, ask questions. I've tried a Vive Pro, DPVR E4, Quest 2, Quest 3, Valve Index, and Bigscreen Beyond. I've had my share of experiences in VR, and I know what I prefer. FOV is nice to have, and I'd love to have more with the Beyond, but I'm not worried about it because I enjoy the micro OLED displays and beautiful colors and contrast that make up for it.

@@ThisKory sorry my reply is to OG comment, yours hadn't appeared yet for me. I agree with you completely. Each headset has its pros and cons, I was just saying the statement that VR was better 5 years ago isn't something anyone in the VR community would agree with. And FOV and above 90hz is a small piece of the puzzle.
