Another super long one today guys and gals so you'll need to sit back with two drinks instead of one. Haven't been to the scrapyard for awhile so drove down there to find something interesting. I'm not exactly sure what it is so let me know if you know . A heap of ingots from it and some other bits and pieces. A Triple melt today hence the extra long video. So sit back relax take it easy and I'll see you beautiful people next Friday. And have an awesome weekend😀👋🏻.

the weather looks crappy you must have got it before we got it in Victoria because it's bloody cold here now it has to be cold for me to light my fire how many acres you on up there you need a cow or something nothing like growing your own food I can't remember the name of the person but there is somebody on KZbin the turns silver into blocks he does gold as well I know a couple of the chemicals he uses he uses bleach and sulphuric acid I think or hydrochloric acid something like that if you can get the hang of that you have all those circuit boards there you would be able to retrieve the gold off them that would be a real treasure

If anyone was wondering that gel looking stuff he played around with is called seal-gard it’s designed to seal sensitive electronics dirt and moisture so that component is most likely the control center of the whole thing
@OddlyIncredible
@OddlyIncredible Жыл бұрын
Looked like a three-phase SCR/triac to me, which would be used for high-current AC mains switching and/or phase control. Probably part of a motor speed controller of some manner. The real control center of the thing was probably the big IC on the first circuit board, which was some sort of digital signal processor (DSP) from Texas Instruments.
@tiredman99
@tiredman99 Жыл бұрын
Yup we have that on some of our welders at work. Problem is that if the gel is compromised in some way the whole system is pretty much screwed

I was working in the appliance industry when they started putting computer boards in their machines and I'd see that gel all the time on refrigerator boards because the moisture inside refrigerators would take them out. Eventually someone got the bright idea to put the boards on the back of the refrigerators and run the wires through the box.

Please never apologize for the "extra long break down." For some of us, that's the best part! My "gun-to-the-head" bet, based on the MASSIVE copper coil, plus TWO cooling fans and that big aluminum radiator, as well as what looked like a couple of hefty capacitors, is you broke down a high-powered transformer or control module, either subordinate to some other industrial process, or a stand-alone rig. You're also either lucky or careful and smart you didn't get hurt. Who knows how long that device had been waiting? Old capacitors have been known to bite. My other guess is you already know how to check for charge with something other than a wet finger.

Very nice 3-phase pump controller. The control board is a Texas Instruments TMS320 24Cx microprocessor with digital signal processing functions, RAM, ROM and some communications I/O. The secondary board also has a smaller microcontroller and the relays and mega 1500uF electrolytic capacitors are expensive - $50 a pop. Great choice to recycle! Not that old either.

Now that you mention it, I think you're right. I just had one replaced on one of the buildings I manage, and it wasn't a small job. The one we put in was about 700 lbs, so this one was pretty small. But VFD is probably likely.

You could always add dilute nitric acid to the silver contacts. The silver in them would go into solution as silver nitrate and and be taken out by adding metallic copper. The copper would replace the silver nitrate in solution and precipitate out and you'd have your silver. The only problem is this method doesn't easily recover the copper used. You'd have to do the same sort of thing again with a more active metal (e.g. Aluminium) which would form aluminium nitrate in solution and give you your copper metal back. There may be other ways, but that's the simplest I can think of.

Definitely love watching copper melts. Seems like he need to get a dedicated melting room with ventilation or build a roofed over area by the shed so he can still do melts even if it raining.

You can send that rain up here to Canada. We could really use it. Love your videos, well balanced and very entertaining.

We need it in Pennsylvania as well, the grass is so crispy, and we're constantly on fire watch.

Looks like a forklift battery charger from the outside. Grundfos maybe a motor drive of some kind. Gold plated pins as well as the ceramic plate in the igbt module

G’morning mate! First off, those are Gold played pins, with a caveat: technically they are gold filled pins, they yield a lot more gold than those plated (about 2.5% of the total metal weight). For the silver, that’s my hobby (there are some crappy videos in my channel, even running a Royal Mint coin give away right now). You need Nitric acid and distilled water (do no have tap water even 35m close to the solution). In a nutshell. Have 3 parts of distilled water and 1 part of Nitric Acid. Use your judgement to decide if you split in batches, how to split (weight, size, whatever. The point is, depending on the size of the beaker or glass flask you use, one part of Nitric might be a lot, so keep on medium heat until everything is dissolved. There are two judgements now: whatever point the reaction stops and you are confident no more Nitric is present, if the solution is already dark blue (heavily concentrated), just decant the solution add new water/nitric first to finish off whatever is leftover and then start adding a few contacts at a time until the nitric is consumed. If there is no more reaction and the solution is light blue, greenish, or a not too dark blue, you can keep adding small doses of nitric until reaching the desired concentration. All dissolved, now you have to thorroughly filter. The filtered solution needs to be crystal clear, not a bit cloudy. Put the filtered solution in a larger whatever container, add distilled water about half of the solution volume to dilute, add copper pipes or bars, any long and thick copper. Next day you will have 99% cement silver at the bottom. If you wash (now tap water is ok given all Silver dropped and you still have undissolved metallic copper. If you manage to patiently wash the cement silver until the liquid is transparent (last -5 washes with boiling water), you my get .999 fine silver You can just melt the cement silver into whatever you want. If you can trim off the maximum of the copper or brass off the contact bits you have, you will save nitric considerably and the apparent yield would be higher. Cheers!

IDEA: Sandcast your KZbin button and polish out a perfect replica. Then melt it down on April fool's day, and watch the chaos. You could even get two videos out of it, because the week after you could post "the making" of your KZbin button.

😆👍 slapping a hot glove reminds me of when I used to weld box headers. I used flux core and hot or cold it looked the same. so when someone would come into my booth I would lay my glove on a hot corner... they were standing near... and hold it just long enough to smoke. then I would say woooo hot and slap the glove to dissipate the heat. 😂
