Today I make some room in the shed by clearing out another container of scrap pieces. I melt A heap of old bathroom fixtures into an awesome mirrored bar and a baby copper bar. The sanding process takes half a day unfortunately but what an awesome finish after all is done. Anyway sit back chillout and enjoy todays video and hope to see you all next week 😁👍.

HOW I MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

When I melt pipe, I always keep one piece back until all the rest is melted, then crimp one end of the last piece, fill the cavity with borax and crip it closed (not too tight, you still want it to breathe so it doesn't pressurize and blow up), then drop it in and push it to the bottom of the crucible. That way you don't get all the blown borax dust riding the heat column and going everywhere, and the borax gets melted and mixed in more evenly with the liquid metal. I think it helps to de-gas the metal, too, but I'm not sure. Also, turning your mold upside down over a lit candle or oil lamp will give it a nice coat of soot to help the ingot release from the mold (it's cheaper than graphite, too).

If you're going to do alot of these perfect bars, then you might want to look into a hobbyist Shaper. It will make it easier to get the roughing done.

I think it cleans off the oxidized metal. There was quite a lot of green stuff on the shower pieces so maybe it's meant to clean that off.

It's not hard to get golf course looking turf at your home, use a warm season grass, even if you live in colder areas 4 new cultivars of dwarfed zoysia grass have been tested as far north as Chicago. Buy a book on turf management, make sure your mower is always sharp, water longer one day instead of watering everyday, if you water everyday for short periods this produces extremely short roots that can't handle summer heat, it also becomes dependent on water everyday. Be sure your soil has the proper pH and micronutrients and macronutrients. Fertilize less, less nitrogen because most grasses are breed this way, extremely low input which saves money. Proper maintenance practices also so the soil stays in great shape.

I am wondering if the graphite powder might contain a small amount of moisture that then flashes to steam and maybe causes the holes in the ingots you talked about in previous video?
