I experienced this recently in one of my workouts. I would destroy my legs week after week then head straight into jumping sprinter splits and my legs would buckle, I would fall, and I'd get back at it and keep trying. Recently I got to that point where I felt like my legs were going to give out and I don't know what happened, but it's like my body broke through a screen and suddenly I was going harder than when I started. The pain just lifted and I was hitting a pace I thought would take me many more months to reach. It was incredible, it felt like I broke some sort of limiter on my body by attacking it and trying to go further week after week. Goggins searches for that feeling and now I get why. It's actually incredible how much your body holds out on you, and it works with your mind to try and hold you back.

@@alexrosario423 That sounds awfully lot like an endorphin high, aka “runner’s high”. It’s called Runner’s high but it’s not exclusive to running, and yes, it IS the best feeling you will ever have, it feels primal, like a deep instinct just rushed out to life and you’re a whole different beast, everything becomes effortless, pushing more feels good instead of hard, you feel your whole body, every tiny movement and pounding on the ground is felt but it strangely feels good, it’s a whole experience, I could go on and on, and so could anyone that has every gotten it hahaha Congrats

I've always been an introvert throughout my life. I've always had problems talking to people being shy when the real problem was that I was always afraid of rejection. So I went out and became more social by talking to more and more strangers making myself as uncomfortable as possible. Now I feel like I can take on the world because I'm no longer afraid. I still get uncomfortable, but I know it doesn't matter anymore if I get rejected by someone in a social situation because in reality it cannot hurt me! Thanks for the inspiration David Goggins!

@@atlantaogatlantaoh3546 The greatest tip I can give to anyone struggling with a fear that holds them back, is to simply face those fears head on. Sometimes it might feel like every fiber of your being is telling you to hold back and hide behind the shadows, but the reality is that you'll never know greatness and the satisfaction of achievement if you don't try. So simply put.... Just TRY! Over and over again until you get what you want out of life.

For the first time in my life, I ran 6.5 miles without stopping. I honestly wanted to stop after 2 miles but something weird happened. I just sorta accepted the pain and the fact that this was gonna suck. I also accepted the fact that I wasn’t stopping until I managed to hit 6.5 miles. I know that’s not a lot compared to what many can easily do but it taught me something. Learn to accept the pain and keep going until you either reach your goal or your body fails you.

That’s awesome. 6.5 miles is also just a great distance to run daily on average if your goal is to stay fit and even decently competitive for mid distance races like 5k and 8k. It doesn’t take too much out of your day since once you are in shape it is less than an hour of running. So it’s more feasible for someone with a job.

One lesson people usually learn in Hell Week / Ranger School: The brain always quits before the body does.
@locutusdborg1267 жыл бұрын
Mark: One evening (I was active duty Army) I was working out in my room and a guy a couple doors down stopped in and asked if I wanted to work out with him. Before joining, he was a kicker for a major university and very well built. So he does 500 sit-ups, and with no one holding his feet down. I was flabbergasted. He told me it was all in the mind, that if I could do 50 sit-ups (the max for the Army PFT) I could do 500. I did not believe him. First he taught me how to do a sit-up without anyone holding down my feet using pure will-power. My feet kept coming up, so we started with one sit-up, and he held my feet with a finder on each foot, and finally I could do it. Then I did 10, and so on. Why 50 sit-ups first? Because he said you don't want to strain an ab muscle so you need a base, and I could already do 50. We were in an elite unit so were expected to do the max on our physical fitness tests. Every other day he would have me add 10 sit-ups. It was hard, but once I reached 100, I could do 200. It was all about closing my mind to everything but the count. I would count the sit-ups in my mind, and blank everything else out. I am now 68 and do 1000 sit-ups every other day. He also taught me the same with push-ups, but they were harder as my friend made me use perfect technique. But I did it too. So much about being fit is in the mind.

I think many people (including myself) tend to always associate Goggin's lesson about pushing yourself into uncomfortable situations to grow, exclusively with physical activities. But its just as important to get outside your comfort zone in other aspects of your life as well, taking on new challenges for personal growth, for example, going back to school, accepting a new position at work, learning a new skill, etc. The beauty of what Goggins is teaching us is that its really applicable to any and all aspects of your life!

If my weakness is working from the bottom in Jiu Jitsu, then that's where my coach would start my rolls (BJJ version of sparring). If my triangle choke was lacking, my coach would make me drill it for hours. You become stronger only when you tackle your weaknesses head on. There are no shortcuts in life....

At my age I've been uncomfortable enough . Farming, factories, 6 yrs military, 10 yrs self employed. So I'll set here comfortable while you're being uncomfortable lmbo. But the difference is Mr.Goggins, I AGREE WITH YOU COMPLETELY!!!!

Sorry but it bugs the crap out of me that the video suggestions at the end of the video cover up peoples faces while they are still talking. It really spoils the good talks for me. Can you do anything about it?

I know this guy in many speeches, and I wonder how hard it was to have him never to curse in this video. It works, but man, I miss the cursing.

Drake Williams I think it's because people associate cussing with being more honest and speaking one's mind.

Doesn’t matter if you are comfortable or not, doesn’t matter if we push our limits or not, doesn’t matter if you make millions or not, We still “wake up” and have to live through a never ending maze of bullshit and manipulation each and every day. You can be a ultra marathon runner, extreme sports master, physical god…again it doesn’t matter. It only makes your mind strong in certain aspects in life, in other aspects the strongest willed will buckle like little school kids. Do what makes you happy, protect others, stand up for what’s morally correct for humanity, and provide truth and honesty…that is true strength of character. Without truth everything else is bollocks, and there is a whole lot that is being hidden…but you already knew that. ✌🏻❤️🌍

The brain always quits before the body does. That's why the brain is more important (to master it), that's why he doesn't mind destroying his body to obtain mental toughness. And that's why I am doing the same. This man is a living and breathing inspiration, legend. Saved many of us from the dark pits of hell.

Your mind is addicted but you as a person want to give up smoking. Try going to a sauna for 3 days, be around those who care about you outdoors with no substance, keep yourself busy, mediate, each time you smoke have a consequence like running for 15mins outside. Your brain is programmable. Tell me how it goes. Drink lots of water and eat healthy.

Time flies fast. I'm in my 30's and it seems I don't have enough of it. Don't think endgame, think each step, and you will get where you need to go. I've also learned Dave that if we can teach ourselves to not mind nor count the time spent in suffering, it makes it easier to stay in moment's of suffering by not counting the clock and just not ask when it's over. I'm sure you understand what I'm trying to say. I totally get you man

I agree with this 100%. This is the way I need to frame my mind to grow and challenge myself as well. However, I've found over the years that not everybody grows the same way. Some people do need a more comfortable, gentle approach - otherwise they will shut down. When I was younger, I used to tell those people they were mentally weak and needed to fortify their mind, but I realized much later that even that statement discouraged them and shut them down. Everyone has their own optimum way of growing - this is not a one size fits all solution.

Nice speech, the main barrier for me to ever attempt doing something that enormously challenging for myself is the fear of doing permanent damage to my body 0_0.

Which you have already done by being fat and sitting in your couch all day. Your blood vessels are filled with grease and fat and a stroke is about to happen for sure, may the God of unhealthy food serve you delicious hamburgers in heaven so you can have a stroke there too. Peace out.
