Last pert near new tractor was an ST325 that came to our farm with 60 hours in the spring of 1983. dad had bought a 55' wilrich field cultivator. it was a little big for the 1977 ST 270 with a 3306 SN 34. the hired man smoked the clutch on the 5th of may with half the crop to put in. we rented the ST325 to get done. dad went in to settle up on the bill in June and it was going to be cheaper to trade the 270 in for the 325 than to fix the 270 and pay the rent bill on the 325. So we kept the ST325 it was main service on the air seeder from 1983 to 2002 when we got our first 8850 Deere. Still have both the St325 and the 8850 but I farm now with two track Challenger tractors as they are more fuel efficient than case quad tracks.

We own 2. A PT225 Bearcat and a ST325 Panther. Both are retired now! The 225 was our seeding tractor for years and was eventually replaced with the ST325. The 225 pulled 40' of box drills and harrow packers. It also pulled a 40' cultivator with spikes for banding NH3. The ST325 eventually pulled a 40' air drill with a 300bu cart and a 1250gal NH3 wagon. Awesome tractors! Would like to buy a series III Tiger for a restoration project.

Why did Steiger go out of business what happened do you know the story??
@bigtractorpower3 жыл бұрын
Steiger sold out to Tenneco in 1986. Tenneco was the parent company of Case IH. The reason Steiger could not operate independently anymore was because of a severe down turn in the agriculture economy in the early 1980’s. Grain prices were low, interest rates were high and severe droughts in several regions made things even worse. Many farms were forced to liquidate. Unfortunately this situation for not only Steiger but for International Harvester, Allis Chalmers, Versatile and White Farm Equipmemt lead to the sale of their company to larger companies.

Jason, thanks so much for this. Those Series III Steigers are the best looking tractors of all time. We had two on our (now defunct) dairy farm when I was growing up...a Panther with the automatic and a Bearcat with 3pt and PTO. They were awesome. The Bearcat sold at auction this summer. I tried like hell to buy it... but had to give up. It went for exactly the amount that I had stashed away. Buyers premium plus needed repairs (it was in disrepair) put it out of reach. I'm heartbroken about it.
@bigtractorpower3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing. That is a cool combo to have a PTA and a PT. The PTs are so rare. What pto implements did the Bearcat run?
@barrybush78843 жыл бұрын
@@bigtractorpower The PTO implements the Bearcat ran were the manure spreader and it applied herbicide while it pulled the Landoll Tilloll 875 finishing tool. It could also occasionally be seen running the tub grinder. I can't remember if there was anything else it ran with the PTO. It was serial number one for 1980. The Panther also had a 6 - way blade on it for pushing silage and haylege. They were really wonderful tractors...I miss it all so much. Jason I'm going to email you about a toy Steiger... be looking for that.
@jamesbarbour8400 Жыл бұрын
Hi Jason, with regard to 'ST' and 'PT' designated Steiger tractors, I was of the impression that the former meant a wide frame tractor whereas the latter meant a narrow frame machine - is this not the case ? By the way, your videos are awesome ! Footage has always been great but now even better with drone input too. Your depth of research is what sets you apart, your stuff is always highly informative. Keep up the great work
@nellsonstout700110 ай бұрын
Correct, the PTAs had a narrow frame, apparently to fit down 30” rows without having adjustable axles (this coming from Steiger employees at the time,) and they could obviously have the hydraulic drive PTO
