Had no idea that the PAWSA track is an exact interpolation / re-work of ‘Don’t Look Any Further’ by Dennis Edwards. Shout out to Dennis Edwards & composer Dennis Lambert for writing such a sick bassline! Goes to show how bad my music history knowledge is haha

Please tell me that you know that thats not the original version of that track? The original was released in April 1984. Denis Edwards 'Don't look any further'

I was just gonna write that, M People too made a cover of that, the bassline is singing all the way. So you basically copy or cover one huge hit of the past and get "inspired" to make a "new" track. Yeah probably the Daft Punk example is backwards as they get inspire by those same elements of the track like that in 1984 or similar. The original doesnt mean it ends right there, whose songs were the inspiration of the "Dont Look any Further"....and so on..

And even at that, I feel that the basics of the riff were then even just a pitch bend away from Imagination's "Just an illusion" from 1982. But that riff is pretty much just straight up theft (or at bare minimum, a cover) and fine well they knew it! From time to time I do consider: are we at the point of maximum saturation of what is possible in music? Can anyone create anything anymore, that doesn't sound like something else? And then we have this, which even uses the same syncopation - like they weren't even trying! I think without the additional tempo, it would definitely set off various copyright detection algorithms!

Hey man, not sure if anyone has brought this up yet but since moving to your new studio, your audio recordings haven't sounded great. Sounds like your vocal noise gate/sidechain is working but it leaves high-pitched hissing whenever you talk. Looks like your mic is kind of far away from your mouth (out of frame) and the gain is set pretty high which exacerbates the issue. Not sure how to fix it but I'd take a look at the audio recordings and see if you can put a filter on the super high frequencies. This is most noticeable with headphones on but just wanted to bring attention to it. Awesome video! Love the content!
@BigZMusicАй бұрын
Yeah thanks for the feedback! The microphone in frame isn’t the one I use for videos. I use a Shure microphone that’s attached to my camera. It’s a really crappy mic haha I need to spend some money on a better mic

The song isn't popular because he nailed the song writing, it's because it's a remix of one of the biggest RnB/Soul tracks of the 80s. Nobody is listening thinking "ooh that's amazing songwriting by PAWSA", they're thinking, "oh cool, a house remix of Don't Look Any Further", if it was an original it wouldn't be pulling streams like that. Kind of fitting that it becomes a House song though because Dennis Edwards's jaw is absolutely SWINGING in that music video lmao

did you just forget to mention dynamics? Accent the rhythm notes you mentioned at 1:09 those notes being louder is what makes it groove.

Objectively, that bassline has got nothing on the original it was lifted from. No soul, basic tat. The fact people think that's good shows they never heard the era or the song it was lifted from, as if they did they would laugh at that lifeless junk in comparison. SMH
@paulbarrett4533Ай бұрын
It’s also contextual for the genre, the remix isn’t the same genre as the original so won’t be the same as the original you prefer the original baseline because you prefer original and it’s genre probably

Going full circel is kind of a rudamentairy way to do an analogy of the chord progression... Instead of focussing on the loop or full circel as you say, one must be aware of the function of chords in the progression and the extentions e.g. the 9, 11 and 13. I bet most hous tracks will stay in the same key, so they won't borrough chords from parallel keys, like the parallel minor if you are in major. So then the chords you use in the song, need a ritmic theme. Like you already showed, many of the notes are locking with the percussion or kick drum. Or sometimes, syncopation is what the song need, especially Funky song. Knowing the chords, you know that you must outline the chord tones of the chord, you probably want to play the root, 3rd , 7th and one of the extentions. The 5th is normally not played much, but for certain styles the 5th is very useful. I don't expect house songs to have diminished or raised 5th anyway. Those chords are found in the harmonic minor and melodic minor scales. Also bass players use alot of chromatic passing notes to connect the chord notes or scale notes. Cheers
