@@KatieKookaburra my most extreme. was that hot summer of 2018, as a scotsman, watching your nc500 videos you know what the weather is like up here. i mind staying at the yha in dartmoor. all rooky mistakes following a strava route, climbing out of exeter, hilly as hell. then last day ended up being 125 miles and 10,000 feet of climbing. 35 degrees. days that bring life long memories.

What people don’t realise as well, is with a 40 cassette on the back you can stay in the big ring longer when hitting the hills, also you have the chain straighter for normal riding as when cruising at 30km per hour your chain is straight from the big ring to the back. Pros do this in TT rides use a bigger front gear and bigger cassette on the back for efficiency. You also need to change less gears as there is bigger steps between gears. When you hit 10+ percent and you want to ride in the saddle, a 40 cassette is magic! I have hacked my campy to fit a 40 cassette up the back. Works awesome!

Did LeJog in June this year. Double shorts saved my rear! Be careful not to pinch your quads with them though so check there not too tight at the knee end. I changed to mtb shoes and double sided Shimano M540 pedals and it was best thing I did. And a usb charger for the Garmin as they don’t last the day. Take five minutes each day to properly absorb the experience as it goes quicker than you would imagine. Best thing I have done on a bike! Good luck and enjoy!

Good luck and enjoy your LEJOG ride. Watch the A30, it's a busy beast, and also the A9/A99 at the other end, nasty drivers with no compassion on 'their road', for tired riders. My son did it 2012, with myself and other son as van support. He aimed to ride as none stop as possible, completing the 888 mile route,, in 98 hrs, including 7 hrs of which were taken as rest breaks. Don't think we'll ever forget the experience. Once again enjoy and take care.

I recently changed my 8 speed 12-28 cassette (yes, i have a cheap bike!!) to an 11-32. Much better for my gammy knees on the hills. For me to fit a 11-40 cassette I'd probably be best changing the entire drive train to 10 speed at least, which is probably more than the bike is currently worth..

Conti make some great tyres, but the edge they had has been bridged by other manufacturers in recent years, lots of tyres as good now if not better. Vittoria Graphene G+ are heaps better than their older model, also Veloflex, Schwalbe and Pirrelli have really taken the competition to conti.

Mate, remember you still have a 50 - 11 gear, A 40 for bike packing is awesome, you may not use the 40, but remember it is always there if feeling tired. The next gear down is a 34, so you can stay in the big dog longer. Remember this is not a fast group ride.

Hi Katie, did you do any mods to the rear derailleur? Normaly the 105 long cage is only meant for a 11-32 cassette at the max. - and what cassette did you use?
@KatieKookaburra

It’s a 40 cassette with a medium cage but using a wolf tooth.
@waynosfotos
@waynosfotos 6 жыл бұрын
Go to wooftooth a USA company and look for roadlink, it is about $25.00 USD. This is fitted between the derailleur and the hanger. It allows more chain wrap and increases the tooth capacity of the transmission. Chain length is critical and needs to be sized correctly for big big and small small.

Katie Kookaburra The new shadow range ultegra has a much longer total length derailleur, so you can fit a 40 cassette on with no roadlink. I haven’t tried it myself, but seen many examples on the net where it is done. Only prob is you need to fork out for the groupo and have it fitted, bit pricey unless you are upgrading. Anyway the roadlink works pretty well. The only problem I have had with the roadlink is it is easier to bend so need to take extra care when leaning your bike against something.

Why Why Why people say this, if you ride to watts, 250 watts at 60 cadence is the same as 250 watts at 80 cadence, so what is your point? You don’t go slower. But you are not grinding.
@stemante1
@stemante1 6 жыл бұрын
Hei super coach, I never mention of grinding.... my point was; you are at 250watt at 80 rpm, 90 even better (not 60 like you write)!! then by keeping the same watts and cadente you put down 1/2 teeth to go faster..! not easy, we need a strong aerobic capacity and strong resistence to do so..!!
