regarding the comparison to F1 and the Piastri situation, its even crazier than Perry described. Alpine had been dragging their feet on signing new conracts with two of their drivers, 1 main (Alonso) and Reserve (Piastri).They waited so long that contract options on the two of them expired and they were able to enter into negotiations with other teams. Alpine assumed that they would never leave and tried to give worse contracts. Alonso stunned everyone by suddenly announcing he was leaving for Aston Martin, which set off a panic at Alpine. They decided to announce Piastri as the new driver and to then thrrow money at him and whatever he needed in his contract to take the gig. But by that point it was already too late and Piastri had already signed with Mclaren. Alpine could have avoided the whole thing if the had signed their side of the contracts a couple weeks earlier.

I was a cycle tech for Halfords for 7 years. I was lucky at the time as we had 4 big bike guys but none lasted long as Hellfrauds dont like the bikehut despite the fact it kept the company going during covid. I left when new manager destroyed my workshop in favour of extra storage for auto debt. I would never buy anything other than a tube from them.

The bike setup snafu hit home for me. I did the exact same thing on my daughter's bike a while back, and recently helped some friends at a non-profit setup three dozen new Specialized bikes for a school. Apparently, quite frequently the stem is set 180 degrees out of alignment, so if you go by that, you will then proceed to attach the handlebars to the stem out by 180 degrees, it's when you then attempt to insert the front wheel where you immediately see your error, because the caliper is on the wrong side! I remarked about this to my non-profit buddies, and they all laughed and said "they all came that way". So there is a reason the stem is setup "backwards", but I don't know for the life of my why. Usually, you catch the error and make things right and don't put the bike on display or such. And usually you only make this mistake once!!

My local ones may not know what bb386evo is, but they are always very friendly and willing to help as best as they can, and when I talk to explain what I am after, they just listen. Unlike the ones in the posh bike shops who are often arrogant and can't be arsed unless I sound like I have a fat wallet and willing to unload that weight on their counter.

On historic fitness - I was obsessed with football, and injured myself at a high-level aged 18, playing senior football. The coaches kept playing me through injury, and my groin is buggered still, 15 years later. I can never play how I once did, and so I don’t even step foot on a pitch. And this is why I’m not falling into cycling 🤣

Back in the day when I learned to fix bikes at Cytech, the main lady from Bikehut was also there with the intent of making a shorter, cut down version of the training for staff. Concerned me at the time, fast forward a decade and a bit...

I work part time as a cycle tech at Halfords. Only people who have had some cycle training are allowed to assemble display bikes. But in practice staff shortages ( min wage / poor working conditions) mean anyone can be asked to pull a bike out of a box, slap some tat on and then replace the Blackfriday price sticker with something a little more festive. Halfords have a license to sell lower end Boardman bikes (which on the whole offer excellent value) but do not own Boardman. Halfords understand their market very well and are not interested in selling high(er) end product at lower margins; they have Tredz to do that for them.

When it comes to saddle to bars drop, it’s a lot to do with how flexible you are in your hips, back and pelvis. Sure you can get into some extreme positions by curving your upper spine but that’s not going to be good for you. Work on your flexibility, maybe take up yoga, if you want to have an extreme looking set-up… but as the guys said, being comfortable is all that really matters

Was fun watching the whole class banging heads and tapping feet watching my stupid animations 😄Looped their albums over and over and over while working on school projects, then while working when professional, then while riding when I got into cycling. Gonna be listening to them tonight on the trainer while I bang out some intervals 🍻

when Jimmi was saying he did not want his music to feel like work, I remember when I was growing up, my mom got me into baseball when I was about 6, I played so much baseball as I got older, lived it, breathed it, I earned a college scholarship to a div 1 university, then after about 3 weeks, I decided this had become work was no longer fun. I lost all desire to play another inning and dropped out of school which was the best thing I ever did. I do not watch baseball on TV since the mid 1980's, and only go to the minor league games I have in my town maybe 1 or 2 times a year. I completely gave it up, never to care about it again.

As a 'cycle technician' that does work fro Halfords I can hand on heart say that the bikes we sell would categorically not go out like this. That's not to say that every Halfords have good cycle technicians. I have had many cases where customers have brought in bikes built up by other Halfords stores that are this poor. I'm no expert but can honestly say ive never built a bike for a customer or display that hasn't been safety checked are are 100% safe for people to ride! Bar a few technician services there's not a repair I possibly couldn't do. It is a very lazy display but the mudguards do have a channel for cable routing and the handlebars would have been spun that way purposefully as the handlebars would have needed to be attached so this would have been a conscious choice. but as for the forks that is shocking....

In a supermarket you can still get a good freshly baked cookie or pastry. Bike bizz is just exceedingly unprofessional. I've been a bike bizz sales rep. I saw the "good" shops and wouldn't let them near my bikes. Oddly, the only few mechanics and sales people I'd trust with my life were down the street from me, one a legend of the sport in my country for being a good engineer/mechanic.

I've used both. Just depends on what I'm doing. Running errands I just use a garmin "strap on" mount on my phone. For actual rides of 60min and longer I use a cheapo Coospo BC200 cycling computer. Love it's simplicity but I am considering iGPSPORT's 300 or 630 in a few years. As far as using a phone draining the battery? I always have those external battery packs.

I don't think assembly even came into this. I think it arrived complete in a larger box than the typical cycle box, with the handlebars turned sideways to fit, and somebody picked it out of the box and turned the front wheel 180 degrees off kilter without touching the handlebars. Jimmi's straight out of the box theory is surely the correct one.

Sounds like he has had his head turned by Jumbo Visma and the rider and his agent have engineered a situation to force a move. Clearly no intent to honor the contract he has signed. Typical b.s. tatic these days , sports agents do more harm than good these days
@JorickTube
@JorickTube 7 ай бұрын
It's even weirder. A guy who wasn;t his agent started shopping him around end of this summer for a million. Ineous and Trek were interested and Bora was interested in that sweet million as well. This also prompted Uijtdebroex to start thinking about his situation. He decided he wanted to move, but only to Jumbo. Jumbo doesn't want to pay that sweet million, bc Roglic wen the other way without a transfer fee (mind you, there is no transfer system in cycling, you pretty much do gentlemens agreements or whatever. This usually comes down to paying of the remainder of the contract, so if you make a grand a year and you have a year to go you pay a grand). The agent has now resolved his contract with Bora, although Bora disagrees and Jumbo just picked him up. The pain is really on the Bora side of things, they wanted a million, they can't have it. Probably shouldn't have mistreated him so badly.
@virtualmartijn
@virtualmartijn 7 ай бұрын
Also problematic is that cycling doesn’t have a set system for rider transfers. The “pay the remainder of your contract” is all gentlemen's agreement type stuff and in this case BORA doesn’t want to play ball.
