Often described as the off‑road enhanced trail bike of choice, the 2020 Yamaha WR250F comes close in performance and design like the YZ250F. We had the opportunity to ride the 2020 Yamaha WR250F machine and put it to the test. Check out our First Impression on the newly designed WR250F.

I have only owned and used the 2006 model but I can say that the WR250f is a beautiful bike. the suspension is great for long trips, When I used to live in South Africa I did a 472km ride up and down Tugela river and I didn't even feel stiff or any of fatigue from ergonomics perspective. sure I was finished as it was 44 Degrees the whole day but the bike just went and made the terrain more fun than challenging and when there was some open road it can do highway speeds comfortably. As soon as I can afford one again I will DEFFINETY buy another one.

They have made the wr250/450 very tidy and competitive in the enduro market the last couple of year and shed alot of weight as well. I'd defs consider buying a wr450

Great review! I just bough a new 21' WR250F based off this Vital MX review. Debated between the 250Rx and KX250X(C) but felt like a dedicated trail bike design was better for me personally than a track bike with an 18 inch rear wheel and slightly softer suspension.

My dad has a 2020 crf250f and I just got a 2016 Wr250f. Some main, very noticeable differences are things like the seat heights, and how the bikes are cooled. The seat height on the crf is 3.2 inches shorter than the Wr. As well as the engines cooling systems, the crf is air cooled while the wr is water cooled. The crf is very very trail oriented, with less capability on a wide variety of terrains but it is by far more user friendly. Basically anyone can hop on a crf250f and be comfortable without fear. The wr on the other hand has about 13 more horsepower with a taller/aggressive feel. I myself was in your position stuck between these two bikes, since I had just gotten my first real dirt bike - a crf450r and it was way too much power. I love my Wr though and am happy I went with it. I’m 5’ 10” by the way and I can sit on the seat with both balls of my feet on the ground. Although my bike does have a stiffer rear suspension spring from the previous owner which lessens the sag when I sit on it.

I got the 2023 I’m from Canada and the. ECU is locked you have to buy the competition ECU with its CCUand get the fmf full exaust and remove the restrictions they put in place to pass strict emissionsl regulations then the bike is an Awsome bike , a bit tall for a guy that 5”7” but not that big a deal . It is a little jurky in hardcore induro in first gear but I’m thinking gearing will take care of that , it is a very fun bike to ride for sure

Nice review! Still trying to decide if my next bike should be a KLX 230R, WR250, 250FX or Honda CRF 250RX. I had a CRF250R which was the wrong bike for trail riding 😂 but at the same time I’m not a big guy (5’8-5’9) so I don’t want a bike that feels super big that I can’t maneuver in the tight technical trails 🤔🤔

This is the wr250f model which is off road only. You are referencing the wr250r dual sport model. The wr250r has more power than the honda and id say its more capable for both on and off road.
@vitalmx
@vitalmx 3 жыл бұрын
This isn't the WR250R, which is the dual-sport bike. There is nothing in common (engine, chassis, suspension) at all between the WR250F (this bike) and the WR250R (dual-sport).

I recently brought a 2013 wr250f and my first impressions were that it had lot of power because I was thinking it would be more like the honda crf250f but that wasn't the case the wr has so much more power. Second was the suspension, it was really stiff and only compressed in big bumps but the rear linkage bearings were seized so I replaced all the bearings in that and I rebuilt the forks and omg I didn't expect that it would feel like my crf250r's suspension and I was amazed. Third is that it corners so well, my first ride was in the woods and I was expecting a big bulky sluggish bike but damn I went around the first tree and it just went so smoothly and easily. Fourth is fuel mileage, when in out on the mx track I don't even have to refuel after 20 laps compared to my crf250 that's great. I think yamaha out did the wr250f, it's my first yamaha I've ever owned and I was so thankful full I didn't get any other trail/enduro bike.

I made the same observation and mistake (mistake I think) about the CRF250F vs the WR250F, I looked at some dyno charts and thought the diff was crzy, then I started to realize the CRF250F is newest gen 230f, and they are trail bikes period totally diff market. For instance the Forks, they're not inverted, the riding height is like 34'' which would be great for me, and air cooled which I like, but you can see , diff market with about 22hp lol. So, what is interesting though, is that the torque of the crf250f looks to be better than the WR at around 3k rpm which I think is a good rpm for some slow tech stuff... to have good torque in. Overall, in summary, the WR, new and older models are beautiful bikes, I'm really leaning in this direction for my next bike, love the electric start too.

Yamaha have come a long way to catch up to KTM Husky with this bike! Been riding a 2020 WR 250f a little while now great motor, best suspension hands down, good handling. But still not a good as a KTM Husky as a total package! Though much much better than the older model it still has that agricultural feel, big, heavy, weight is to high up compared to the orange &.white bikes, that seem to be much lighter and flickable really noticeable in tighter single tract. I want a Husky with KYB suspension!
@rogerjustice8835
@rogerjustice8835 4 жыл бұрын
Ktm and husky make very nice bikes but for the cost savings and durability I'll take the Yamaha hands down. If you can afford $10,000 for a dirt bike go for a ktm husky, as for me my budget can't justify that much money. I'm still riding a 17 year old Yamaha. Ttr 250 that has been as tough and reliable as stone. so I guess I will keep it till it lays completely down on me, which after having it for the last 8 years doesn't seem like it will die anytime soon. Stay safe and ride on.

Not sure what part of the country you are in but I’ve spent the last 25 years riding with huskies and KTM‘s my son rides a KTM right now but I felt exactly opposite of you I know the bikes heavy because I can read but the weights down low I think it’s the most flickable damn 4 stroke I’ve ever ridden hands down ( to be fair I haven’t been on anything newer than 2011 in the 250f size so my opinion is limited to personal experience ((around here everybody races 350 KTM’s for the GNCC’s and WEXCR’s that’s who I race with)) I’ve always rode 250 two-stroke motor crossers converted to or just bought from one of the GNCC guys the one I sold to get this bike was one of Barry Hawks 08 bikes.

I'm sure you can ride it at the track. The suspension is just softer so you will bottom it out on the bigger jumps and obstacles. You could turn the clickers on the suspension to reduce this or you could have your suspension redone (in that case buy a yz to begin with). When I was 16, I rode my xr600 on the motocross track. It wasn't made for it but it was all I had and I wanted to ride with my buddies. Those were some good times riding.

@@tcmx712 that’ll have to be your little secret because I own one with the updated ecu and ccu with adjustable maps and GYTR pipe and other than a slightly different exhaust valve timing You can make it ride like a mild 250f or a rather snappy 250 F with just a single push of that magic button and I love it. It is so easy it makes a completely different bike and I’m the guy that likes front suspension way to stiff for most other riders (unfortunately not due to any world class speed it’s just that I CAN’T STAND a bike that feels like the forks are suspended with stay-puff marshmallows) and I don’t know what the hell people are talking about saying that things plush mine was anything but plush from the factory coming off of one of Barry hocks old bikes that I’ve rubbed in 08YZ 250 this things don’t like they been recent Supercross with the front end I played with the oil levels made sure everything was together the way shit is supposed to be and they are now working much better for me but my body still stink it’s a little on the stepside I love it.

Really Cam...!? On the contrary, this is a surprisingly capable enduro bike. It is not an MX bike, sure. But it has never been advertised as an MX-bike. This bridges the gap between earlier 250F and 450F enduro bikes. I especially like the mapping options. And with the Yamaha-reliability, this is a serious contender for enduro/trails riding. You can’t have ridden this bike at all...

Overall build quality does not compare to the European bikes un tidy switch gear that looks average wiring looms that have been run here there every where. I just would really love to see yamaha bring out a true cracker of a bike which I know they can, hey they bought us the 426 which changed the face of for strokes .that power tuner app just seems like a gimick to me for want to be tuners .and ride that bike in single line tight technical the flame out will do your head in! !! @@yamanator10 well don’t tell all the guys I Race the WEXCR and GNCC races that I can because I don’t feel out gunned I just get out road. I love mine put the tuner kit on it and geared it up because first gear is retarded low. The war is also you you injected which to be honest with you I don’t really care for ( it makes the bikeway too sensitive to the initial throttle input)but you can take most of that out with gearing, a throttle tamer, and with the tuner. It’s by far the best factory ready woods weapons I’ve ever owned and my previous bikes included a Barry Hawk 08 yz250 and a Randy Hawkins 97 yz250 with both of those bikes sitting at about 12 grand in parts and other than the 250 two-stroke obviously has more power this thing is far easier to try and run a race pace on at my age.
