Your videography is so seamless, it looks like you got a video crew following you around. Great job as always. When you told that guy you were from Key West, he must have freaked out, that's as far from there as possible in the continental USA

Riding on the sidewalk is like playing a video game. Random pedestrians, kids, cars loaded up on Starbucks, dogs, and more are all part of the obstacles. It's like the Paperboy Nintendo game. I've noticed on this trip and I think in the latter part of the last trip that you've switched from a stationed GoPro/camera on a tripod to just using the drone. You capture so much more movement in one area and make it all look continuous. The time saved and the footage gained is awesome. I put your video up on one monitor and follow along on another monitor using Google Maps. Saving locations, places, and research areas. As always, thanks for sharing.
@FlyscoutRyder Жыл бұрын
Hi BT. Two monitors is a great idea. Mapping your way on a tour is so much fun. I spend so much time every day studying where to go and what to see. Even when not touring so I get why you are doing it. I remember the Paperboy arcade game from my youth. That was a blast. Yeah sidewalks are fun. The next episode has some good boardwalk action along Venice Beach... You noticed the drone usage right. It makes for more diverse footage but I do love the Canon camera on a tripod ride by's the best. Another reason I used the drone more often towards the end of tis tour is that somewhere along the way in Bog Sur, I lost the end of my tripod that clips to the camera and wasn't't able to use it. Improvisation made me use the drone and now I plan on using it more often. But no way I will give up the real ride by's, lol. Thanks for checking it out. Only one more next Saturday.

I have been “escorted” off a divided highway by the State Patrol, twice (once in Iowa and once in Maine). In both cases the officer was exceedingly polite, agreed that there were no signs stating “no bicycles (etc.)”, but insisted that my presence was a distraction to drivers. I didn’t argue and took a side road at the first opportunity.
@FlyscoutRyder Жыл бұрын
I've been pulled over twice as well. Once in Kentucky where I was detained in the state troopers car until he had a friend come with a pick up to take me to the next exit and the other in Washington state. That time the trooper had no legal reason to stop me but was only letting me know to be cautious. Both times were good experiences with good dudes.

I rode the coast highway (a combo of US101 and California SR1) all the way from San Diego to Port Townsend, Washington three times. Twice with a friend and once alone. Every cyclist I met along the way said I was going the wrong way. My response was always that anyone can do things the easy way.
@FlyscoutRyder6 ай бұрын
Hi Tim. I hear this criticism of which way we are supposed to ride a route all the time. On my end of criticism it's the whole concept of riding from west to east when crossing the country because the prevailing wind is from the west. I have crossed the country three times and it has always been starting from the east coast. Head winds and high mountain passes for some reason make sense to me. Thank you for watching this episode. Be safe out there.

Hi Verlin. Not sure about the average speed. That's a difficult metric because I stop all the time to record. If I had to guess I would say that I am on a windless flat scenario I like going at about 12mph or so. Climbing I would say about 4to6mph and downhilling... as fast as I can, lol. HI Diego! I'm still watching your episodes and reading all the comments and replies. So fun! The scenery is beautiful and your ability to capture the beauty and your adventures are great and so fun to watch. I had dreamed of biking the PCT at some point in my life, but I think I just did it through you. I don't do well on hills. What range of grade of inclines do you think they are? Do you have a gizmo of some sort to measure it? If you do, mention it at intervals. I do see the 7% declines. Nice rewards. I did the C&O Towpath in June with other gals. Since most of the trail was dirt and it had rained the day before, the path was muddy with hundreds of puddles. So thankful for hoses to wash the bike and our legs off of lots of mud before going into the Airbnb's. (Those girls DO NOT camp, as I'm told many times.) 2 months from now the same 3 of us will continue the Mississippi River Trail and bike from St Louis to the Gulf. I need to train more for the 55-95 mile days. At least it is much flatter and downhill to the Gulf! Take care and I'm looking forward to the last of this trip and next trip's episodes. When do you guess they will start being posted? You haven't even started and I want to to see the episodes already! -Sue
@FlyscoutRyder Жыл бұрын
Hi Sue. Great to hear from you. Awesome comment. Sounds like the C&O had a muddy disposition. It's great to hear you are out there covering ground. That's great you are doing more of the Mississippi River Trail. I plan on riding it as well this summer. I was looking at Greenville to New Orleans before turning west again. Yes, if you don't want to climb I would avoid the PCBR. It is a non stop climbing affair from WA to Los Angeles. You do get rewarded with insane downhill action, though. About the grade, I don't have a way of knowing unless I get it from a posted sign. But I would say that it was steeper than Colorado but not as much as the Appalachian Range. Colorado has longer climbs and the Appalachians are shortest. So I would say the West coast is sort of in between. Makes my day to hear you are still watching my channel and enjoying the progress. I'm still a struggling KZbinr with dreams of someday having the pipe dream realized. I love the process and tell myself to keep at it so we'll see how it goes. The last episode of this series uploads next Saturday at 8am. I think it came out good and a good farewell for now. I start touring in a week or so from Georgia. I'm looking to cover all the southern states and lots of National Parks once I get to the west. I have a new bike I built and will share it on the channel on the first episode but not sure when that will be. I'll be trying to create content to upload while I'm on this tour. Let's stay in touch and be safe out there. D.

I biked SF to LA last June and seeing these roads bring back some really good times. I was wondering how much extra time it takes to film yourself doing it, especially with the drone? do you have to stop and set it up every time?
@FlyscoutRyder4 күн бұрын
Hi Adrian. Glad you found my channel. I use four cameras to gather the content including the drone. Stopping throughout the day is a constant part of the process. I record about 1 to 2 hours of content for each day and end up with an average of ten minutes of final content per day. You are watching Season 3 of the Pacific Coast Bike Route. I'm currently editing and uploading Season 4 which is of a 2023 cross country tour from Beaufort, South Carolina to Los Angeles. Season 5 will be of the tour I did this fall of the Cascades Volcanic Arc from Vancouver, Canada to Chester, California just south of Lassen Volcanic national Park. Thank you for watching.

Hi Philip. Thank you for your comment and for checking out my content. I understand your concern about riding in any road. If you are interested in touring there are other ways to safely enjoy it. Here are a few you can take a look at: The Katy Trail, GAP, Empire State Trail, Palouse to Cascades Sate Park Trail, East Coast Greenway, and there are others. Also, if you like to climb the Rockies has tons of passes that are shouldered and without much traffic. I hope you get out there, it's a blast.
