That is very much appreciated, Biking Viking, thank you. I know my subscribers are low but they are loyal and honest, no bots here. I am working on the case with the recent help of a friend who is also wondering how my content isn't drawing more attention. We'll see were it goes. Whatever help you can figure will be appreciated. My goal is to some day be able to spend more time at it and progress the content way farther. I have a depth of pipe dreams in store.

I don't mind the length, but thinking aloud here, modern attention spans are pretty short (and, to be fair, there is quite a bit of competition for them). I think videos in the 10-12 minute range are supposed to be the sweet spot. Just a thought. Love the content and living vicariously through your adventures. A lot of thought and effort has gone into filming and editing these videos which I truly appreciate as a viewer.

Wow. Speechless. I lived in Santa Rosa (CA) for six years and each Fall, I made my way up to the redwoods for the Humboldt Marathon (on the Avenue of the Giants). My neck would hurt so badly after each race from looking up into the trees. Funny…I said to myself, “he’s going to camp at Burlington!” So when your little red line ended there, I yelled out loud! 😂 I camped there three times. Good memories. Great video series, Diego. I really enjoy your channel.

I've heard lots about this marathon. Very cool you have done it. It must be trippy to be running along there with thousands of people. Sorry about your neck pains, lol. Burlington is a special place indeed. The next episode ends at Manchester State Park, which was closed, where I sneak in and end up all alone for the night listening to the ocean in the distance. That one was memorable as well. Thanks for enjoying my channel. I hope it catches on and I can grow it. Take care

Back to the Scout bike!? Whats cool is when you go on these bike tours and meet up with other riders (total strangers) and have that connection for being out there doing what you're doing. Those tree's man!
@FlyscoutRyder
@FlyscoutRyder Жыл бұрын
True, when you meet up with other touring folk there is already a huge connection. I think it's because it's a relatively small niche and there is a sense of uniqueness. Not sure but either way it's awesome. Most times it's as if you already know the person the way you or the other person stop to chat and share knowledge. Yeah the trees!!!!! Thanks man.

Another piece of art! Beautiful area, one minute you're next to a beach, some miles further you're surrounded by giant trees. About the tent, I bought a one-person tent but I will buy a bigger one. I trade the extra weight for more space at night. In those cold nights it makes a big difference sleeping with your face away from the wall.

Hi Mário. You are too kind, my friend, thank you. Yeah, it's from trees to coast line on this tour in the flip of a hat. I'm working on EP 6 and holly crap is it just that in an extreme way. It is going to be a great episode with more insane scenery. California is one beautiful state. By far, the two person tent of mine (Hilleberg Niak) is way more comfortable than this one person (Enan). Still, the Enan was so nice to use. It will be part of my channel depending on where I go. Hi Will. You are welcome, glad you enjoyed it. I'm with you on the scenery stepping you back to past time thoughts. I do that a lot when I'm all alone. I also feel so fortunate that the roads are there so I can travel longer distances with the time span that I have instead of having to hike it. Lots of respect here for the pioneers and bush whackers of the past. Thoughts of Daniel Boon and John James Audubon times come to mind. Thanks for your comment

😯 Switched back from the Pinion to a traditional derailleur system!!! That's amazing. It'd be interesting to know what it was that put you off on it. (Besides the buzzing noise while coasting.). -- As you know, I switched from traditional derailleur system to Rohloff / Gates about 10 years ago. I'll never go back. I have ridden a Pinion drive bike and really didn't like it that much. But, I love the Rohloff. I love these videos. I've been through Redwood Ntl Park, but in a car. We stopped frequently, but I'm sure the view from a bike is much better than what we experienced.

I didn't get along with that Pinion bike so I flew home and got my old bike with a derailleur to finish the second half of the route. If you go back to Season 3 Episodes 1-5's comments you can read up as to why I didn't like the Pinion or the bike. I ride a Lynskey GR300 now and love it. GRX group set. I had gotten the Enan last year and was looking to give it a try. It's a bit smaller but also lighter than the Niak. The Niak is my favorite because of all the room kit has for a one person. I recommend it. Things to keep in mind is that the company is low on inventory and it takes about four months or longer to get one. They are also pricey but I believe well worth it. My Niak has been solid thru all kinds of wether and it is so easy to put up. Thanks for watching

Hi Diego, Great episode as usual. I've been to the Redwoods and they are huge! Yesterday I registered for a 6-day bike trip in your state in February that will be just north of Tampa, but biking the Keys is still on my bucket list. I'm always curious how you set and film your drone as you bike, not knowing much about drones. I was going to say that on a day that is "boring", (but you don't have any of those) film yourself setting up the drone. Your days are longer for all the camera shots, but worth it when viewing your episodes. Take care!

Hi Sue. Yeah, those trees are so amazing to ride by. I will always hold those days dear to me. That's great you are touring in Florida. The state has a Florida Bicycle Association that is very well organized and engaged promoting cycling infrastructure throughout. Lots of trails crossing every which way. I'm leaving Florida for the last of the 50 states in the series of seasons. Likely Season 5 in 2025. About the drone, if you ever feel like learning how to use one I am here to help. Let me know. You are right about the time it takes to film during the day and it is worth it. It's also a lot of fun to have to think about gathering the experience as I go. You have to think ahead other wise the moment passes you by. The work is tackling but after the years now I have it as part of my days' routine and enjoy it tremendously. Thank you for watching. I found shifting to be lacking efficiency compared to integrated shifting with a chain and derailleur system. It's also heavy and so is the bike. There are other reasons, like an uncontrollable front end wobble, but that one would be at the top of the list. My Cannondale is 20 years old and only takes up to a 40c tire so I am still working on a dream bike that will take a wider range of tire widths and have dual disk breaks. Lynskey Bicycles saw my channel and offered me one of their frames so I will be trying one of theirs next, a GR300. I'll be building it soon and sharing the process with you guys. Thank you for watching and reaching out.

Diego, I too bought a co-motion with the pinion gearbox. Although I have yet to ride it with all my gear I can tell it's heavy and slow. The shifting I can deal with, the weight I don't know?!?! I rode the Northern Tier Route last summer and included the Great Lakes, wow. On an Specialized Vado ebike. Very expensive way to ride so I bought this new bike. I hope I don't also regret it.

Cool vid why did you change out your freestanding tent thought that was the perfect tent you liked
@FlyscoutRyder
@FlyscoutRyder Жыл бұрын
I had the smaller tent and wanted to test it out. The main reason I got it is because it is a great hiking tent. Very light and compact. Im back on tour now recording season 4 and grabbed the larger Niak you are referring to. That is my perfect tent.

@Diego Why the switch from your Co-Motion Pinion Divide Bike to the Cannondale T2000? I guess there's a story to that aswell.

Hey Diego. I'm just curious on why you changed from a two person tent to a single?

Hi Greg. I do love my two person Hilleberg NIAK but last winter I saw the one person Enan and thought it would be a great add on to the equipment locker. I read that it is used by hikers such as of the Appalachian Trail because it's so light. I figured give it a try and was very surprised. It sure is light.

Looks amazing riding, what was your favourite campsite in this section or did you like them all?

Welcome, Janet. Very cool to see you comment here, thank you. About camping along the west coast, it's awesome. There are so many campsites all over from Washington state to California. They never refuse hikers or bikers and most times it's $5 and at the most $10. That includes all amenities. It seemed to me that there was an option about every twenty miles. On this Redwoods episode I would have to say that my favorite campsite was Burlington. You are deep into the Humboldt State Park surrounded by these amazing giant trees. I was basically camping all alone as the campground was pretty empty. Hope you have a great week instructing cyclist.

I envy you. I hope that I can make it to the Redwood forests one day before I or they are gone. I love to ride my bicycle through nature but more and more I find myself struggling to be happy taking in what beauty is left and becoming sad at how much has been lost and how little the vast majority of people seem to care as it gets exponentially worse by the day.

I hear what you are saying and would have to agree. But, part of me is highly optimistic that even though we as humans have degraded the majority of natural resources around us that we are moving towards a balance with it all. Time will tell and all we can do is be the best stewards we can be. The Redwoods are very likely going to be around for as long as Mother Nature allows it. Hope you make it there someday. Thank yo for watching and reaching out, awesome comment

I have been watching your coast trip and you briefly explain the shifting differences between the Pinion and derailleur. I am still looking at Pinion, currently the electronic shifter. Can you explain the issues? Was the gear range good on the Pinion, or was that also an issue? Hard to find gears?
@FlyscoutRyder
@FlyscoutRyder 11 ай бұрын
Hi David. The gear ration on the Pinion is excellent. I personally love to shift with integrated shifters, chain, and a derailleur. It's way more efficient than turning a knob every time a gear change is wanted. I've never used the electric shifting Pinion, though. That could make it nice, not sure. But still, the extra weight from the Pinion seems unnecessary unless you are going to be riding in mud for days or on a long nomadic type tour. I still prefer the art of sliding the chain up and down a bunch of sprockets. I also enjoy the process of cleaning my drivetrain. Call me crazy but I know Im not alone about this. Thank you for watching the episodes. Season 3 is dear to me and it was this season that led me to the structure Im using for the now season 4. Take care and be safe.

The Co-Motion and I didn't make a good team. A mix of issues that made me miss my old bike way too much. If you read the comments from episode 1 and 2 you can get the whole scoop as to why. Thanks for saying that about the interview with Sophia. She was awesome and made it easy. Interviewing is something I plan on doing more of in the future when I run into random cycling folks out on the road. The stories I hear are so captivating and I fill with regret when I think of all the conversations I had with wonderful people that I didn't capture to share. They are all truly uplifting. Thanks for watching.

@FlyscoutRyder 10 ай бұрын
Yes, the Pacific Coast Bike Route is mainly riding on US1 (101) but here and there you will see signs that let you know to ride on paralleling scenic roads. Some of them take you into the Redwoods State Parks such as Humboldt and Prairie Creek. There is also Leggitt Hills between Humboldt State Park (Avenue of the Giants) and the coast. Once you get to Los Angeles there are endless miles of boardwalks as well. The biggest hurdles, I think are the Oregon bridges such as the Astoria and North Bend ones and getting thru Malibu. You can ask for a ride over the bridges. It's a fantastic rid.

It was more than that. I end up not getting along with the Co-Motion nor the Pinion gear box. I learned I am a derailleur kind of cyclist. Integrated shifting is way more efficient. If you go back to the comments of episode 1 and 2 you can get the scoop as to why. Thank you for watching.
