As a beginning bike tourer I love that you guys are showing shorter more realistic tours rather than the epics that I'm finding elsewhere. Thanks again!

My wife and I went through Turri Rd per your suggestion and it was great! It was a climb but it was nice and worth it.

I just finished a similar trip...LAX to SLO by train, then to Morro Bay by bike (and back the way i came). I didn't know about Turri Road, and was sort of dreading the long uphill traffic-filled ride back to SLO. But just as I was coming up on Turri Road turnoff, I saw a few cyclists there and luckily I turned. 😊 I have an old clunky bike and I did heve to push it about 100 yards approaching the Hinds Summit. There I sat on "Kevvy's Bench" (which appears to be a memorial 😢). I love the SLO station, especially the bridge over the tracks, to the bike trail to the south. SLO is a top bike-friendly city. In my experience, the Surfliner has gone back to the model you expected (the self-service bike car) rather than the baggage car like the Coast Starlight. I prefer that because there is no checkin and no waiting at the other end.

Love the SLO Amtrak station, as well as the hostel less than two blocks away. And your lights are great!

That's one of my favorite stretches of coast to ride the train on. It's hard to believe it's CA along the Point Conception area. NO PEOPLE!
