I love the enthusiasm of this channel. The content is definitely relevant to my riding. So no doubt John knows what he's doing. I've had several bike fits and they usually get me close. But imho no 2hr session in a room can fully prepare one for six+ hours on the bike. Don't get me wrong, fitters certainly know the basics and if they DO have 5-10+ years experience then they have a lot of lessons learned to refer to as well. I'd love to find one that can do the job perfectly for me but I get the distinct impression fitting carries a lot of opinion and assumption. Most of what a fitter does can be learned and applied at home if one dedicates themself to a little research and a few hours over several days to inspect riding position. After all, though they don't ever seem to admit it, all fitters had to start sometime! (Interestingly I have never encountered one who will admit to less than 15 years experience lol!) Typically after a new season I get a fitting and then I take a long ride and move stuff back because it caused pain. eg, I have a leg length diff and more than one has glanced over that! Also they tend to assume (insist!) no amateur is flexible enough for a slammed stem so they'll rotate my bars and hoods upwards, causing wrist numbness after an hour riding.

Thank you so much Mike, happy you enjoy the videos :) sometimes it can be tricky to fit your bike, in my case really helped a lot because I have a super short torso , so finding the right position and bike was difficult for me. Happy holidays :)

Tks to YT suggestions, discovered your channel a few days ago. Subscribed. I have only checked a few videos, beautifully done, informative. Best bike fit video, I’ve ever seen. You have to give it to Dutch, cool, calm, no nonsense, straight to the point, professional...and telling you as it is. Never felt that I needed a bike fit but old age taking its toll, I’ll book a slot with them as soon as I can. In other news.... back in the days, this old anorak remembers that bike frames for women existed ...dunno if it is still the case ? There was a good reason for that (shorter torso- longer legs than same size men, I doubt it has changed very much 😉). Keep on the good work !! 👍👍

Many thanks Claude for your comment and support 😊 I am happy to hear you enjoy the videos. My bike fit really helped me, specially with my upper body problems as I have short torso and the reach of normal bikes tend to be too long for me. Totally recommend doing it, as it’s hard to find a good geometry for a bike, there’s still women bikes but a lot of them still have a long reach and comes with handlebars that are too wide in my opinion.

Nice Video. Thanks for putting it on the net. By the way. I will do a 5500K Tour across the states in May. We will do that in 28 days, which is about 200K a day. I guess i need a bikefitting to. 🤣😅
@Buzzalong.cycling2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, 5500K is some distance! With that kind of mileage back to back might be well worth it. Nothing worse than saddle or back issues with big days ahead :-)

Discovered your channel a few days ago and watched a good amount of your video so far. I really like them, well done. I was really suprised on one of your videos where you mentionned your bike frame was 54cm. I didn’t think you looked that tall in the videos but videos are misleading. It made sense when the fitter mentionned at the end that it was too long for you. 😄 My first couple of bikes were also way too big. I’m 167cm but have short legs as a consequence I ride 49cm bikes. I didn’t realise how a good frame size and bike fit make the biggest difference in riding. I used to have huge back issues until I moved to the right size bike. Thanks again for the videos, keep it up!

@Buzzalong.cycling2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, my personal experience is that aero bars really improve comfort during long distance cycling events, because you have another position to sit on and also you can rest your hands while riding on the aerobars, even on events with a lot of climbing i still found them really useful :)

Recently bought a Ribble endurance and went to one of their showrooms for a bike fit prior to ordering the bike. ( they call it bike builder). It is amazing the difference this makes just to the way you ride the bike. You actually wear it you don't ride it. Please invest in a professional fit.

I have a question: on that bike fit computer graphics your leg 🦵🏻 is never close to fully extended. It’s always considerably bent. I like to extend my leg fully, but I suspect this is wrong. So my question is: to what extent (percentage) should the leg be extended (or not) at the bottom of the pedal stroke?
@Buzzalong.cycling2 жыл бұрын
many thanks for you comment, as far as I know it needs to be slightly bent but it is vey individual, best todo a bikefit so they can look at the whole position
@bingoberra182 жыл бұрын
At minimum you can use the trick of having your heel on your pedal with a fully extended leg, that way when you are clipped in, your leg will have a slight bend on it. If you are fully extended when clipped in you most likely sit too high. This can mean that you will be rocking from side to side on your saddle. It is scientifically proven that a little bit too low seat height is less detrimental than a little bit too high. There is a lot of info on youtube if you want to learn more about bike fitting, but it will never fully replace a real bike fit.
@Tuffjobs2 жыл бұрын
@@bingoberra18 I see a lot of women sitting very, almost comically, low in the saddle. This is probably because they feel safer because their feet can easily reach the ground, but it makes for a very cramped position.
@bingoberra182 жыл бұрын
@@Tuffjobs Yes there is of course a limit, but generally if you sit too low you mostly put more effort only on some of your leg muscles. Fortunately adjusting your seat height is simple, so I suggest going with the heel on lock out method to start with and you can always go back if you dont like it.

Great video! Did you manage to adapt your bike for the dimensions or did you have to get a new frame? I also have very long legs so had to get an XXL bike and then adapt it to my short upper body. But it was only a shorter stem and move the seat forwards and all set.
@Buzzalong.cycling2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for your comment :) I managed to reduce the reach of my bike by changing the stem and the handlebar, its is much better now but I am going to get a smaller frame size for my new gravel bike. Instead of a 54 ( my current bike ) a 51. I am also comparing the bike geometries as the reach changes a lot depending of the model and brand.

Thank you Dan, I got a new bike this week for the season, switched to an endurance road bike because of the geometry with longer headtube and shorter reach better for short torso. I will most the new bike video soon and explain eveything :)
