I love restoring vintage bicycles but the part I love the most is always the last one - riding them :) Great bike, I'd love to see one made by ZZR (especially Jaguar model) restored by You. I remember that Jaguar was made up to win the Peace Race in 1956 and it actually did. Even though Poland didn't win as a team, Stanisław Królak was first Polish overall winner. I doubt it would be easy to obtain that model outside Poland or other post Soviet countries.. but who knows? I can find sometimes bicycles or parts I wouldn't ever expect to find here. Keep the good work!

I work at a local LBS and I only work on used bicycles every day all day and still enjoy your uploads I’m so burned out the Covid bicycle rush but I still find your uploads entertaining I do the same thing every day, I’m so glad to recycle bikes so they don’t end up in the land fill process!

I literally saved a bike from the local tip a couple of months ago. It was filthy and rusty the guy was skipping it - btwin triban 3 alloy frame carbon forks shimano tiagra groupset mavic wheels ritchie hubs. I spent £50 refurbishing cables and bearings and its now my favourite bike amongst other good stuff. I call her Skippy! :)

You have a 1987 Olmo Corsica. With Oria tubing. I got one on my 17th birthday from Woody's Bicycle World in Los Angeles. Mine was blue with full Campagnolo Victory and Galli wheels. You're going to love the ride quality, Andy! Enjoy.

The bicycle turned out incredibly. I usually do not take bikes that I know I'm going to repaint. however I absolutely love my Raleigh Competition GS and I am sending that one out. Much easier paint than that OLMO! Great video. I'm envious of your style and ability!

Another great restoration of another great bike. Keep them coming please Andy. Only issue is as with previous bikes you are setting the brake hoods etc to low on the bars. The bottom of the brake level should be inline with the bottom of the drop. (Ie) if you were to put a ruler along the flat bottom of the drops the lower tip of the brake lever should be exactly in line. At the moment the tip is beyond and lower than that horizontal plane.

Another great restoration and beautiful paint job Andy. Actually, that is how they used to wrap the bars back then. The tape was so thin and wrapped very tight that, it did not come unravelled. And, in the 50's / 60's they would finish it off with twine and shallac the tape and twine when they finished wrapping them. Jim

Thanks yes mid 80’s, I swap the pedals over for the ride just simply because they fit my shoe fitting and are a lot safer and easier to use when filming. Thanks for your support much appreciated 👍

Great stuff - just discovered your channel! In the late 90s I had a Denver Spoke ('84 Alexi Grewal LA Olympics build as well) built De Rosa Replica '57 thin tubed, fully lugged "speciale" Columbus steel frame with 8-speed 12-23 Record. This frame was rumored to having been built by Ugo himself. Also my birth year....how happy was I? What a sweet bike...best ride was the infamous one day Denver-Aspen Classic ride - 202 miles, with over 13K of climbing, to above 12,000 ft, in around 13 hours. My buddy had a gorgeous Master Lite in blue, with the 3-leaf clovers and Ernesto signature, chrome fork, full Record as well, and we rode the foothills above Denver and into the high mountains on countless "credit card" rides.....Those bikes had a soul that just became a part of you, and were the best bikes in the history of bikes.....and were the best days of my life. That was also back when you could buy or build out an Italian classic with Record for around $3500. I'll pass on offering my opinion of the Chinese carbon bike industry today....

Beautiful. Love what you did here with what I assume is a valuable bike. I'm curious to know how far you would go to restore a lower end bike such as a Peugeot UO-8? Exported in massive numbers in the '70s, these excellent bikes are still plentiful but can present greater difficulties than, say, a PX-10. Partly because they are not terribly valuable. For example, the forks tend to be bent and must often be replaced, the cottered Atala cranks seize up and have to be drilled off, the knuckles on the MAFAC "Racer" brakes can be cracked and require substitutes. Then there's the issue of topical rust all over the frame for which respraying or powder coating are too great an investment. (Yes, I am speaking from personal experience.) You do such smooth professional work, Andy, what would you do with a bike that presents greater difficulties?

Thanks for watching, to polish the frame I use a product called T-cut it’s used in the car industry to remove scratches. Make sure not to rub down on and decals/stickers though 👍

Love these videos, but, personally, unless the bike was previously molested with a non original paint job, I’d never, ever, ever, repaint an original frame. Especially this one. My heart sank when I saw that. The most I’ll do is spot touch-ups for minor rust or chips. Personally, I love the look of older, well used paint jobs. Having said that, pro repainted frames do look great, and I totally get why some people choose to go that route.

I’m completely with you regarding touching up and what I normally do. It’s better and also a lot cheaper. However on the frame it all looked great to begin with until I realised the majority of the rear drive stay had been painted. Which went into the paint fade, and on the other side someone had also painted in white over the red fade. So this was my reasoning 🤔 thanks for watching and your support

that Benotto tape is getting harder and harder to find - costs a fortune!! I would wrap from the bottom and then burn / melt the ends to finish - I think that's how they got the wrapped from the top look

Hate to mention but the black outer for the rear mech takes it down to 9.9 out of 10 . Bet you did not want to give this one back .

Thanks Nick glad you liked it, yes the paint work really is something else. The tubing is Oria hi tension tubing, used by a few Italian frame builders I believe. The gear ratio is 52/42 and Id have to go and count for the back, small well it felt that way climbing that hill at the end. Thanks again all the best

Cool Andy. Top notch work. Theres a british bike company called Orro and they used to make a steel reynolds 853 racing bike called the "Ferrum" it was available with campag or shimano 105. I believe the fork was not 853 but just plain steel. The bike was discontinued in 2020 i think or 2021. Whats your opinion of 853 tubing. Would love to know what you think.

Excellent restoration! That paint jobs badass. No decals, looks amazing. As for suggestions on future restoration’s. Maybe it would be interesting to try and get something really old? Most of your restorations seem to be 80s. 80s bikes are my favourite, but a full restoration of a 50s or 60s bike would be really cool!

Thanks for mentioning the bar wrap! I was thinking “NO!!!” with Benotto bar tape, but I recognize that just because I always do it one way, there is another! Btw, I usually apply a very thin layer of rubber cement before wrapping with Benotto ribbon, as it helps with slippage. :)

Hi Andy…beautiful Olmo and restoration. I love the paint work and polish. I would love to see what you would do with a Vitus 979. I have one so am very curious on what to consider for an aluminium frame. I would also suggest getting yourself an ultrasonic cleaner and use a cleaning solvent that you filter with a coffee filter and reuse. That can be had for less than $100 Cdn on eBay for a 2L. It does an unbelievable job cleaning and a lot easier on the hands…taken care and looking forward to your next resto. All the best from Western Canada.

@@BikeItUK Yeah I noticed that after the fact 🤔 The one I have has the grey anodized colour so not sure what I will do to jazz it up but I will. The cleaners are called Ultrasonic Cleaners…used very widely for jewelry and watch cleaning. They do an unbelievable job and with the number of cleanings you do it will easily pay for itself in no time and a hell of a lot easier on the hands. A lot of car guys use them as well. Cheers.

My first high end road bike was an Olmo back in the 1980’s. Beautiful lilac-blue color. Shimano 105 I think. Tires as thin as hair and saddle as hard as brick. Used to go 90K every morning to prepare for my rides. Hands were never comfortable though due to the vibrations.

Frame paint finish is stunning Andy, but I always think you could do with the next frame size up. Totally agree with you starting the bar tape is neater from the top as it does away with insulation tape. I had some 1987 Mavic MA40 wheels from Halfords as a teenager.

Super-nice resto again, Andy. You’re quite right about the bar tape. In the 80-s the “factory” wrap was usually done from the top down. Especially Italian bikes. (On post 90s bikes I wrap bottom to top. ) Keep up the vids!

Beautiful restoration, however the brake levers look too low and can be safely raised so it's much more comfortable riding hands on the hoods.

Wow ! Andy, that paint job. The first peek, of that paint, when the bottom bracket area was shown, was stunning. That fork crown, seems to make a smooth transition to the fork. Great details . Thank you. Ken.
