I see you traveled clockwise. Is this common?

Yes. I found some trip reports recommending to travel clockwise so that you are riding downhill through most of the sandy sections. I found that to be true, although several are just flat. Our main reason for riding clockwise though was because we wanted to start with 2 days of water and then filter more at the end of day 2 when we reached the Green River at Potato Bottom.
