Biker was nice, but was the biker not in the wrong? while filtering allows for travel between lanes it does not allow for the bike pulling in front of another vehicle, which as he went around the corner I think he did, the bike moved from being between the two lanes to cutting across the front of the car. If you are filtering is the car obliged by law to give you room or account for bikes straying from the "filtering lane" or is the obligation on the biker to ensure his actions do not interfere with other traffic users.

Congatulations, a whole series where not once was the biker correct. In particular though: feel sorry for the old man with, THE BIKER CUT INTO THE CAR- not the other way around (biker turning too soon and cut accross the cars lane) 1. you may only filter when space to do so - it's not a right, vehicles IN THE LANES always have precedence., and, 2. when merging back ONLY when sufficient space (same concept as changing lanes) - vehicles already in the target lane have precedence. No wonder you get abused so often, ***clearly you don't understand the principle of merging into a lane*** if insufficient space **BIKER MUST WAIT**, DEFINITELY NOT not the car "should make space" as you WRONGLY told the old man.

I'm happy lane splitting is illegal where I live. I've seen to many videos of bikers doing it improperly, and it seems most drivers have no idea its legal which puts the splitter in danger. Even if it was legal in NY state I wouldnt do it. It puts you bike in the blind spot of every car you pass.

In fact it should only be done in very slow moving and stopped traffic...being in between the lanes is safer (not so easy to be rear ended) it also makes the bike more visible in the cars wing mirrors not less. Personally I would never lane split or filter at speed..its russian roulette and does give people the wrong impression of the safety aspects of filtering. 👍🏻

What? The car was stationary when the biker merged. The car then shoved into the back of him. All the car driver needed to do was just hold back a bit and let the bike go. If you look at the point where the traffic starts moving, the bike was well within the lane and the car was behind him. You can see the white line to his left. The car then pulls forward, closing the gap and bumps him. Biker did text book filtering move and certainly did nothing wrong.

I'm a biker and I get the "filtering" thing (although it's not legal where I live) but I agree! The biker was wrong! The bike advanced SLOWER than the car in front, then abruptly chopped the gas and TURNED RIGHT! The reason I use caps and all is because I read 100 comments praising the gentle biker for being kind to the helpless old man. You are the first I saw rightfully condemning the biker so I had to jump in.

@@feez357 I cut the throttle to stand the bike up to go wider because he was about to hit me, it wasn't quite enough to give him space with the momentum he had. Yes, I did something unexpected to him and I accept my part in contributing to the incident there but I was blocked from going to the front and needed to merge in. I gave him as much room as I could, even going towards the outer lane rather the closer lane but he still ran into me regardless. I'm fine for you to criticise my actions but I'd prefer if you offered up a suggestion of what I should have done instead?

Old bloke - New bike I’m only a teenager but I would’ve waited for the guy to go forward a bit and merge in behind him. I ride a bicycle in England and I tend to filter when I’m in town, making sure I’m able to merge into a lane (there is a lot of traffic in my town). I like motorcycles and I support the idea of lane filtering, but people just need to take more care cuz someone might pull out in front, open their door or do something else stupid. Errr no, The biker didn't cut him off and the accident was the old man's fault completely and him having aphasia doesn't excuse it. Filtering is completely legal and even if we assume its not that doesn't give drivers the right to ram bikers. The old man was most likely very ignorant of that rule but despite this his action was not justified. Plus given that the old man is suffering from mental health issues he is not only a danger to riders but to traffic in general, I can assure you more accidents will come. Its a good thing the biker sympathized with the old man, but in my honest opinion that old man should not be driving as his mental handicap will surely lead him to make bad judgement calls, its much better if he takes the bus or atleast have someone assist him.

@Drakoulas David I'm a biker and I agree that there are idiots on both sides during these videos. Sometimes it's the bikers, sometimes it's the car drivers, sometimes its both. For as many videos I see of cars cutting off bikes, playing on cell phones, becoming angry over lane filtering. I also see bikers speeding, bikers assuming they always have right of way, bikers smashing mirrors over the smallest perceived offenses, and bikers taking there eyes off the road for minutes at a time to scream at drivers. People on both sides cause issues on the road.
