Riding my road legal motorcycle on a fully legal unclassified road when I was confronted by an angry walker. Normally I keep calm and state facts but you cant always educate ignorant people who just don't like your hobby!

If that guy had any sense he'd be teaming up with you , we are all losing our rights to the countryside bit at a time . I've off road biked and 4x4s and I'm a dog handler that loves a walk in the wild but if your on a green lane , expect vehicles , the same vehicles that often help repair damaged lanes etc by carrying hard core etc for local volunteers, seen this done many a time in Wales. We are such a divided country .

Not disagreeing with you but let's be honest, lots of bikers illegally go on footpaths. I was at near by Darwen tower just last night and three bikers came past me on the path to the tower. Then later on, I saw three young lads with balaclavas on (they looked like bank robbers!) on mini electric motor bikes. So that's bound to piss off walkers and make them see enduro bikes and the like negatively.

@deebater5298 I've dragged guys off bikes in that scenario , I drove down the wrong gate in a land-rover myself and that cost me £200 . That's not the issue here , its a green lane, therefore a BOAT and the guy walking won't have it. Lots of people do lots of illegal things but don't persecute the majority, as is always the case .

Fun fact, i was told off by a ranger for being on a footpath near to jacobs ladder edale. Closer inspection of a 1:25 map shows a dotted black line which donates a PATH! I checked with Ordinance survey and those dotted black linez can be used by anyone, even if they follow footpaths ( dotted green) I keep email of evidence on my phone, but haven't had chance to tell whoever tests me "HOLD MY BEER!"

@North West Enduro jacobs ladder and all paths marked with black dashes are open to the following, horses, bikes, foot traffic, everything but,mechanically propelled vehicles, so basically mtb can go anywhere. Unfortunately, the communists who control everything, want to stop us all accessing the countryside, which effects enduro riders and mtb. I've had muppets tell me to get of pennine bridleway. Every week they have started reporting mtb having accidents on our trails and soon we will need insurance, which will be out of most people's price range, just like the bikes!

straight on from the pigeon tower, take the left road instead of the right one. Ive been up and down this road hundreds and hundreds of times over the years either on Mountain bikes, running or walking ..I used to go to Rivi school and sixth form nearby. Its probably the most avoided road in the area for obvious reasons. Ive also seen countless crossers using the road over the years, just as you were, and you're right, its a public road so you're well within your rights to use it as you are doing.......the problem is this guy with his dog just doesn't like the noise and tries to make up a frankly embrarrasing list of excuses, he probably thinks everyone on a crosser has just come from nicking an old lady's handbag in Tescos...did he never watch Kickstart as a kid!!! 🙂 I particularly liked his 'look what you've done' remark, as if that road hasn't been like that for the past 40 years...which it completely has (i'm 44 and lived in area my entire life)

If you knew your stuff you'd be calling it a Byway Open to All Traffic, there are also Restricted Byways on which motor vehicles are not permitted. Since you are calling it "an unpaved public road" you appear not to know your stuff, without further information I would side with the walker, he says there are no motorcycling signs on this route. I don't see signs of a headlight or indicator lights on your motorbike, if this motorbike is not registered and hasn't got lights, indicators, a registration plate etc it has no place on a Byway Open to All Traffic, I suspect you are riding it without a number plate. There are way too many unregistered motorbikes destroying our Public Footpath network at the moment, it's a motor vehicle, get a license and keep it on the road!

I would call this lane a byway open to all traffic if it was one 😂. This lane is a UCR/ORPA and not a byway.

Also my bike is fully MOTd, taxed and insured. You do not need indicators to be road legal.

@@NorthWestEnduroSo this is marked on the OS 1:25000 map as a white road, designated "Other road, drive or trail", OS show that at the time of drawing a route existed at this location but do not determine whether it is a right of way for motor vehicles. Many private house and farm drives between the road and buildings are marked in this way. "Some local authorities have a disclaimer on their List of Streets to the effect that inclusion of a route is not proof of vehicular rights." So exactly which map did you offer to show the walker? The walker said that you were damaging the surface of the route, you could be seen to be damaging the edges of the natural steps, this could be interpreted as criminal damage, if a motor vehicle causes damage to a right of way he shouldn't be using it. Also under Section 3 RTA 88, your use of this route was "causing or likely to cause annoyance to members of the public." you were "causing, or is likely to cause, alarm, distress or annoyance to" him or he wouldn't have objected. So I would suggest if you have to use your motorbike off road you should stick to Byways Open to All Traffic and that you don't damage the surface of the Byway or upset other members of the public in your passing.

@@NorthWestEnduroEven if you have a right of way to use this route on a motorbike the behaviour of the walker in making a wide detour to avoid you while you used high revs to climb and erode the natural steps causing a noise disturbance was causing, alarm, distress or annoyance to a member of the public. Your were therefore breaking the law. There's no place for motorbikes in locations like this!
