Since I bought my KTM 890 Adventure I am just gorging all the reviews of KTM 890 Adv, ADV R and Norden. And so far I cant find a reason, why should it be better not to buy 890 Adv and buy ADV R or Norden. With better tires on 890 Adv (I mean more offroad orinted, those AVONS are tragic offroad) theres nothing in this video you couldnt do with 890 ADV and you could on Norden. And since I am not ever going into any more offroady terrain than what is shown here, ADV R makes no sense either. In my opinion, Norden is just different looking (which s huge thing, considering KTMs love it or hate it face) KTM 890 Adv. The changes from 890 Adv are negligable or maybe better said without any significant impact IRL. I enjoyed this review very much, keep up a good work mate!

Those DIN ports are much more reliable than an old cigarette lighter socket. The plug is captively held and won't work its way out with the shock and vibration. They are much more easily mounted horizontally too, e.g. on a side panel.

Often with the car ones I loose power and have to push the plug back in again. Can get crazy hot running inverter or compressor to.

@@chrishart8548 Yes, some are better than others but I guess it is all down to the rating. I have two ports on my bike, one rated at 10A and one at 5A (12v).

I'm with you Chris about the front of the bike, I love the big round headlamp. To many new bikes have weird poncy shaped things that partially light up depending on running, low beam or high. We'll done Huski on the Norden.

After getting a screwdriver and plastic clip as the tool kit on my Africa Twin, I was actually really impressed with the tool kit included on my 701. Yes its a cheap included tool kit and not top quality (although seems to be better quality than most included ones), but its really well thought out. Part of this is KTM/Husky doing a really good job reducing the number of nut/bolt sizes, but its a kit that can actually do most of the work you would need to do on the bike, while being quite compact.

I'm picking it up in some two weeks time. 3 Questions please: 1) What slightly more aggressive dirt tires would you put on? 2) Would you upgrade the suspension if not factoring the cost and would that tarnish the bikes good and comfy road manners? 3) What Spidi gear are you wearing? Sadly my KTM 890 has spent 6 months at the dealer over the past year and a bit. It's had none stop problems, including the ECU not connecting to the Key barrel which completely stops the bike from running. This left me out in the middle of nowhere, making it a nightmare to get the bike back. Other issues have been brakes, the coolant system, and the dash taking in water (I live in the desert FFS). To be fair, my other KTM's have been great, this one has been terrible. Anyway, great review as always Mr. Northover!!!

That was a really fun and useful review!! Thank you. I live in the boonies, far away from any dealerships except a very good and proven Kawi dealer. Hence, my new bike for exploring is a KLR650. Many of the things you said about your Norden are what I feel about my KLR. However, performance-wise, you're in one or two quantum levels higher. I'm reluctant to buy any new bike whose dealership is farther than 120 miles away.... Thanks again!

I hear you Chris. I'm in the hundred horsepower market right now and there's something in the back of my mind saying that it's going to have problems. Other than that from the outside it seems just about perfect other than what no one has ever talking about. They're just not available. And when they are, the dealers are charging way too much money for them over and above the MSRP. It's actually sad. So many reviewers. So many KZbinrs. And no one ever talks about dealership experience and obtainability.

Hi Chris great review the reliability thing is interesting dad an I had 2x 390s both ended up rejected riddled with issues it becomes a big problem when ktm don't give you the warranty booklet till after point of sale, an later on you find out the displays arnt covered under warranty when they fill with condensation. On my dad's bike we had flat tyres after 8 hours of it being parked in the workshop, went to ktm sorry we don't fix that it hadn't even turned a mile, then we sorted them with a local tyre company at our cost. They wiggled out of that. Then we had the well known issue that KTM refuse to fix with the displays condensating. Then my old man's had stalling issues. 3 months later no help from ktm an the dealer did the right thing n refunded us the money. One 1200gs later I got a Himalayan an 500 miles later that was full of issues to so its not just ktm it seems like motorcycles of late. Problem was with the Himalayan the parts availability a friend of mine has been waiting 12 months for a part under warranty that's when it starts to become a problem for the owner. I faced that on mine an the dealer took it back for refund with no issue so credit to them. I've had 7 suzukis from a 1981 gsx750et vstroms an gsxrs all flawless reliability wise, same for my 2010 blade an a 300 rally I had. Few gs/gsa's one gsa 1200 at a year old ended up in the workshop for 6 months at bmw back n forward n I ended up missing my first big trip abroad to the Swiss alps. I think its good that owners air the issues because otherwise nothing gets said about it. Dad an I are actually looking at the 790/Nordens as being from an engineering background anything can go wrong with anything that's made its just the support aftercare and quality control that need sorting with the current companies. Currently on an 1150 as I can fix it myself when it goes wrong 🙃 which helps with the crazy price of bmw parts. Just wish those aspects would get improved an ktm would address the display for all those that have issues with them at £800 quid a display it isn't a cheap thing. Good to see the Norden has the new display they just need to get them on the other bikes now. If it hadn't been for the reliability issues we would still have the 390s. The Norden seems to tick alot of boxes like the 390 did for wanting to travel :)

Excellent review, as everyone from Chris. Just a question left on the bike: a true adventure bike will be good for offroading, but will also have to be good for 8 hours on the road, may be highway speeds. I ride from Spain to Sahara every year and you have also to get there with your bottom in one piece. That is why I've discarded the KTM 890 (all of them). I well might be the only BMW F800 GS adventure rider who actually uses the bike for what it was originally meant for. And of course, the 850 is a crap for me. So... how is your bottom after a long day on the saddle Chris??? Is the sit any bearable?
