Lovin the suit in the background swiggin back his whiskey, looks like management, delighted he's found some boys who can rock in a post hendrix world

I had no idea Paul is such a pro on the mandolin as well.

I love And's little nod of praise to Paul at 4:23, its little those little things that remind you how of the friendship between these guys and how much fun they must be having

This song always gets stuck in my head. I can never remember all the words, but the story that they tell is always very real in my imagination. I can see the dialogue unfolding before them as if they project a stage full of actors. I love andy's harmonica playing.

Andy and Pau, Paul and Andy. Peerless. Super. Thanks much for the opportunity to view this class show. Heretofore, I had only their album to listen to, which I've been doing for more than 40 years. Watching is even more enjoyable.

I always thought Andy Irvine was the one playing the mandolin. Both were incredible on the Blarney Pilgrim Really thanks for posting all these great clips from the '76 show.

Great playing, great tune, not so sure about the ideas in the song. On the original album it followed Arthur McBride which always struck me as interesting.

The mix doesn't pick up the guitar well enough for the 2nd part. Too bad, as that's what makes the 2nd part so magical.

Anyone know if this is Paul's mandolin or Andy's? Can't have been too many Gibson A style mandolins from pre 1920 in the country at the time.
@davidhawkins92064 жыл бұрын
it was Andy's from the Sweeney's men days and was later stolen and hasn't surfaced

@@davidhawkins9206 I wonder where it is now? The serial numbers were written in pencil on a lot of them. Hard to read these days.
@davidhawkins92064 жыл бұрын
There's a video of Paul doing this song in Molloys pub in 2009 and he has a similar one. A friend of mine has another one and it's a lovely thing, I've no idea of the serial number of it though. You're right though, there can't be that many of them around the place

@@davidhawkins9206 got one myself a few years back. Ebay US site. Was expecting it to need a lot of repairs as I got it fairly cheap but it didnt need much at all. That said it could do with a refret but the sound is something else.

@@Dubhain82 mandolin are funny aren't they.. the Loar F5s etc go for mortgage prices and some of these are still out there for ok money. Can't think of a better showcase for it than the 1976 Irvine Brady purple album
