TECHNICLY, you could hear the sirens going "the other way". if it was driving towards you at a steady speed, and then suddenly started accelerating, the pitch would rise as it continues to accelerate...until it drives past you and then it would of course drop.

It’s great that people have posted the English translation; but I thought I’d post the French lyrics, in case people fancy singing along, but weren’t sure of some of the words. I love that the audience pretty much only reacts to the lyrics when it says 'they adopted the missionary position. It's popular.' Seems that even when in a different language we Brits manage to pick out the sexual aspects of the song! aha

It is, or was when I was going through school. Spanish was a close second, and German would have been popular when I was younger, but by the time I left school Japanese and Mandarin/Cantonese were becoming more popular and widely taught. It's standard to learn 1 foreign language up to GCSE level (16y/o).

he probably does because of the "that would defy physics comment", it just wouldnt have been funny to say "according to the doppler effect, the frequency of the siren can never increase once the source of the sound waves moves past you".
