Agree, 3 hour movie that went by very quickly. I felt Costner was trying to give an authentic representation of the panorama of life in the west in the second half of the 1800s, so there are multiple story lines, which people complained didn't link up, but that's how life is, all our stories don't link up. Still I found it engaging. Definitely will be watching part two. My two sons, who are in their twenties all rated it highly.

I saw Horizon it’s really hard to review or recommend bc it really is 1/4 of the story even though it’s three hours. It ends abruptly with none of the stories resolved. It’s not a bad thing though it’s just tough to have a solid opinion on. It ends more in a tv style than something like the original Star Wars movies which any of those can stand on their own separately. Again not a bad thing just different. I enjoyed it and there’s some jaw dropping beautiful nature shots. It’s just a lot like trying to tell someone they will love a tv show when there’s only one episode out

I think the hate on this movie is mostly because people is repulsed by Costner’s gut. They hate him for having the money to go against the system & not having to bow down or adhere to any rules. They hate him for being able to do anything that he wants. Costner’s existence is a threat to people’s conventional wisdom & beliefs on how a movie is supposed to be-the run time it should be, the format, the ratio, the pacing, the number of characters, the media. Costner shits on all those rules & that’s why people are hating on the movie. But it’s actually a damn good movie. I saw it twice in the theatre. 2nd viewing was even better. The cinematography is beautiful, that walk uphill between Costner & Jamie C. Bower will be a CLASSIC. People will regret not seeing this in the theatre.

I think the hate came from the nature of it being part 1 of 4 where there were a lot of story lines, that probably pay off in the future, but really didn't pay off in Episode 1. It makes for a long (3 Hours) and unfocused movie. I suspect it would have made a better miniseries than movie. I'm not surprised it didn't do well at the box office due to bad word of mouth. To me it's a movie I'd rather watch after all 4 parts are out. I'll probably skip all other parts until every part is out. I watched it and it was good. But I like westerns and don't mind long movies. The problem is hoping that people would want to go watch a 3-hr movie in theatres in the summer, in addition to going in aware that it's not the complete story and more would be coming later. It's unlikely that a mass audience would be interested in that, not in this Tik-Tok attention-span era we currently live in. I understand the love of movie-making and wanting it to be seen on the big screen, but I'm sure more people would take to it as a multi-part mini-series on a streaming platform.

Excellent film. Acting: 10 Score: 10 Cinematography: 10 Costumes:10 Historical accuracy:10 This is the type of film Hollywood used to make. Costner spares no expense on quality, and it tells a gritty non sugar coated reality of how brutal and hard the frontier life truly was for everyone involve. I see plenty of people clearly with an agenda, especially, hit peace articles trying to tear this movie down because they don't like the fact it betrays native Americans in any sort of negative light, despite the fact of the film show's brutality on all sides and it simply doesn't water down the facts or the truth...the wild West frontier was unbelievably barbaric and full of struggle and constant death, and this movie gives a modern, fresh look at that reality without compromising on the facts because of political correctness, or any of this garbage we're so used to, today. I'm a big history buff, and I've researched a mass amount of history as it interests me greatly. This movie, is one of the most accurate betrayals I can think of that shows the barbarity that took place that often isn't depicted realistically in a lot of movies. The only one that comes to mind I can think of is the massacre in Last of the Mohicans, where a film did an excellent job showing just how brutal the frontier can be, but make no mistake of this film, it's truly a good representation of the hardships. The film doesn't try to wag its finger at the audience or preach to them or any of that other crap, coming out of Hollywood. It is a good old school saga. It's something that should be produced more these days instead of this constant preachy garbage that audiences are tired of with having things shoved down their throats. This was an excellent film and most people have actually watched the movie liked it. The movie held my family's interests and we were surprised when three hours was up. When you can watch a three hour movie and the ending comes before you realize it, that speaks volumes about the quality of the storytelling and have a hold your interests..I've sat through plenty of three hour movies and wondered how much longer it was going to be. The fact that the so called critics are coming out in force to try to tear the film down even before it was released should tell you something. As consumers, we should be thankful that there's still people like Costner out there willing to spend their own money to try to produce something of quality for our viewing pleasure, instead of this nastiness, I see from people that have an illogical hatred toward the man and therefore spew nonsense about his project.
