The rust monster got her, unfortunately. The 2-4bbl configuration had two spreadbore four barrels. The linkage was set up so the smaller primaries of each carb opened first, then the larger secondaries kicked in if you stomped on it. It's hard to comprehend how beautifully styled this car is 55+ years after it was designed. Hey Buick - you have the template for greatness, it is in your roots.
@mu99ins4 жыл бұрын
Very hard. If you scan down the page of replies, very little is said of the car. I remember back in '72 and one of the Vietnam veterans in my company re-upped to get a brand new Buick...forget, maybe a GS. I didn't think it was good looking. I didn't know anything about cars, but it was the styling i didn't like. And the Rivieras were all ugly to me, like they were designed for the trashy taste of Italian mobsters. But what I liked about them were listening to the people who liked them. By 1972, I was comparing body styles to the 50s and 60s, and saw them coming up short. With hindsight, I was missing a lot, but those were the days of zero information, as opposed to nowadays of the internet. My tastes have changed for the worse, and now my favorite cars are from the late 40s and early 50s. I think there is an emotional element to people's tastes in cars, and so it's usually mysterious and a head scratcher.

425 horsepower? You're wrong Jay, that's 425 Cubic inches and 360 horsepower. This Riviera is a GS(Gran Sport) that's why the engine has 2 four-barrel carburetors also known as "Dual quad". A standard 425 Nailhead has 340 horses with a 4 barrel carburetor and the 401 cubic inch nailhead has 325 horsepower.
@bradhoward90554 жыл бұрын
I bet you realize that you misspoke about the engine. The '65 Rivera Gran Sport has a 425 c.i. dual quad nailhead V8 engine with 360 hp. The 401 was never produced by the factory with two 4 bbl carbs. I love your pandemic shows, they really show what a great fellow you truly are. Thanks for letting us into your world.
@peteshea80104 жыл бұрын
That's correct. This engine was called the "Super Wildcat" by Buick during the period. It was the same engine as the "Wildcat 465," but topped with 2 four barrel carbs. The "465" represented peak gross torque output and not engine horsepower or cubic inches. Similarly, the "Wildcat 445" was the 401 CID engine. It was rated at 325 Gross HP. All of this is still a source of confusion, even at high end auctions such as Barrett-Jackson. One of the on air personalities for the.Mecum auctions actually stated on air that the 401 Buick made "445 Horsepower" and replied in anger when I corrected him by e-mail.
