Like a super intense guy who is a perfectionist at heart but stresses himself out due to his intensity. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of those simple kind of things like a heart attack or complications of high blood pressure or stroke or something related to extreme intensity because he looks like pure intensity taken to it's logical conclusion. Idk…my parents pushed me really hard and overloaded me with extracurriculars and wouldn’t let me quit things and now I struggle to manage work/life balance because I’ve been conditioned my whole life that if I’m not constantly busy and working on something then I’m wasting time. So I feel like it really is a balance and shouldn’t be so black and white. If a kid really doesn’t vibe with an activity, what is the use in forcing them to continue with something they hate?? I’m not a parent though, so I’m very much speaking from the child’s perspective here. But I also see the value in encouraging kids to push through things and not quit just because something is hard. Yeah, balance for sure.

That’s fair, but my mom always made us give it “the old college try.” We couldn’t quit at something as soon as it got hard, especially if it was an activity we wanted to do in the first place (and generally we weren’t forced into too many activities). We had to stick with it for at least the rest of the season or school year, and if we still felt like it wasn’t for us, then we could quit. My mom is a piano teacher and she can always tell what kind of parents she’s dealing with. There are the ones who make sure their kids practice and show up to their lessons prepared, and there are ones who treat it like just another activity that doesn’t have to be taken seriously. And my mom isn’t a strict, joyless teacher (much the opposite), but she is incredibly passionate about what she does and gives the same level of attention and dedication to every student, though it only works if the students are invested as well. A lot of them do eventually stop taking lessons at some point while others continue through high school, but it’s always disheartening when a kid quits halfway through the year just because “they don’t want to anymore.” Unless they have to quit because they’re really under too much pressure or in some kind of extenuating circumstance, it’s a better learning experience for them to at least finish out the year and that’s on the parents. I can really see why my mom had the mentality she did with us, and I thank her for it!

Every weekend in the winter my Saturday was full of indoor games, then I played 150 games a summer, and let me tell you the times I didn’t put in all my effort I had to ride with my dad home in his truck to discuss my behaviors and attitude. My dad was harder on me than my brother with football because my brother was sensitive. I was sensitive, I just learned there was no reward in crying.
