Yesterday I felt like I was going to die from the hangover, anxiety, shortness of breath, unrest, no balance in my walk almost stumbling over, kidneys hurting, today is day 2 of not drinking and I improved a lot more than what I was feeling yesterday. I still can’t operate a vehicle and not even going to attempt it(my car is safely stored at my brothers house and been there since my first day of drinking). I can’t wait to feel normal again. You'd think such things would stop you from ever touching something so disgusting again but even during them, and now, I'm craving alcohol like I'm starving. I dare not go to the shops in case i leave with a liter of vodka. When i was a teenager/young 20s binge drinking i thought all these people older than me getting addicted to this degree were just terrible people who choose to be the way they are but life experience has proven to me no sane person would choose what I and countless other people go through with alcohol addiction, and it seriously is an absolutely harrowing disease of the mind AND body. 1 day at a time.

After 10 years of hardcore drinking i walked away from it in Dec 2002. No meetings, no rehab, no sponsors... cold Turkey, just quit. Surprisingly, not difficult at all. I never once craved alcohol since i quit. I believe it's because of the absolute hatred i had for drinking at the time i quit. I had so many problems in the 10 years of debauchery. It made me completely hate alcohol.

@UBeesh105 жыл бұрын
Hard to see the finish line when you dont know what it looks like. Some dont even remember what sobriety feels like. Most started drinking because they were trying to escape something that found them in sobriety. Just my $0.02.
@paperbox8195 жыл бұрын
I agree it's hard to see the finish line. It's also hard to look from the outside in. I shamed myself into quitting smoking. Every time I would light up and would tell myself what a loser I am, and how weak I am for not being able to do it. Till one day it just clicked. It wasn't easy, but I did it. I also quit opiates, that was a hard one. I knew I didn't want to do it anymore, but the fear of withdrawal is more of a mental thing than a physical thing. Don't get me wrong, it fucking sucks! But you know in your mind there is a quick fix to feel better. That there is what gives you so much anxiety.

I developed acute pancreatitis from alcoholism earlier this year. I went cold turkey for a month and slowly started back into an occasional beer. Every damn day is a struggle when I've spent so many years of my life perpetually drunk to the point I don't know who I am sober. I used to hate the label "alcoholic" because once you're labeled one, you're always one. This past year has taught me the utter truth to that reality. It's tough out here, but you just have to take it one day at a time. I'm glad Bill found a reason to stop drinking, though unfortunately he'll most likely get back on the wagon at some point because the truth is....you can't make the decision to stop drinking because of someone else. You have to make that decision for yourself and only yourself....that's the only way it will truly have any merit. Same I'm 25 and I learned all this over the course of a summer where I went hard as fuck drinking, threw up a few times and eventually ended up drinking half a bottle of grey goose in a night. The feeling the next day was like my internal organs were decomposing so I stopped drinking habitually.

Ivd cut down in a sense that i'll only have 6 beers each night on the weekends, and no more drinking during the week. Its the most ive cut back so far. But 6 beers doesnt even really give you a buzz and im starting to feel like it isnt even worth drinking anymore. Wish me luck!

I dont drink anymore at all. Never had an interest in hard drugs. Weed is all I need to have a happy life. And I don't even smoke it 24/7. A few times a month keeps my tolerance low and the high strong af.

I seem to be opposite of the normal. As I got older, I got less and less hungover. I'm 32 now. When I was 19-20, my hangovers was Hell on Earth.. Now, I might get.a slight headache. Well, sometimes, I do get fucked up, but not often. - But I'm almost two months sober now, except for three days around Halloween.

Four years and five months (but who's counting) - cold turkey. After 40 years and never missed a day (but one). I really must get around to starting again, someday... Only downside is I STILL have a hangover, first thing. EVERY fkn day!!!

I used to be the same way, now I barely even think about it any more. Sober for 3 years 8 months. Lost about 25 lbs, work out every day now, have a ton more time for my hobbies. Ask yourself whether you truly want your life to be defined by a drug.
