First saw this brilliant man in 1973 when he played in a group called Taffy Thomas Magic Lantern. Have only just learned of his passing. Sleep well Bill, in the arms of John O'Dreams. Proud to be from the same town as you.

So sad to learn that Bill has died - we've lost a delightful and oh-so-competent composer, singer, writer, tale teller, player, poet, joker and best-beer drinker. Lost a good man.

This is one of the best songs ever written. Thanks for finally giving us the real version. Even though some other musicians are doing a good job with this song, it just isn't the same as Bill's.

Count me among the Tchaikovsky Sixth fans who also enjoy this song.

Bottleneck slide -- ethereal. I must be dreaming. Thank you again for creating this beautiful song -- evocative lyrics, beautiful music. And what a transition at 3:32. You sure get down on that. And then, at 4:42, a capella transition. Thank you for sharing a portion of your cornucopia of fine music!

I first heard the song "John o' dreams" played by Cess-a friend of Bill's son- and that was a super rendition, but there is no substitute for the original. Super, cheers.

I was pleased to read that Marie Heaney is a fan of this piece too. It's included in her new book All Through The Night, a collection of night poems and lullabies.

No Disrespect but D'arcy Brodericks version is bye far my favorite, but without this man there would be no versions at all.

Bill's fairly local to me, as I live in the English West Midlands, but I've yet to see him perform live. All the same, he's a very talented man indeed.

This year the candles went out for Mick Billington and dear Dave Cartwright, the other two guys that ran the Royal Oak Folk Club in Halesowen, where Bill crafted many of his songs. It sad, we all have to let go but Bill's work will and does live on in new generations of great performers. Bill has done some much, so quietly and still does. All those years with Magic Lantern woth Taffy and Tim and Carrots His wonderful Edwardian song cycle, Sonny Memories. The writing of Jack Judges long way to Tiperary - yu carnt write a sung in a day! The wonderful Pity me poor pig condemed to die for butchering a beggars baby - go out there and find them all
