Bill was a master motivator but came to Alabama at a bad time. We weren't over Bryant yet and were missing those days. There HAD to be a connection to Bryant. Bill was a fairly good coach. If he doesn't call a fake FG, and pass on 3rd and a foot in the 89 Iron bowl I like Bama's chances to pull that game out. He was all class though. Never had a bad word about Bama but it just wasn't the right time.

@5150TomG So what!!! They stepped onto the field with the odds stacked against them playing against a team that won the National Championship the year before. Give them some credit. I respect them greatly. I played at Nebraska in the mid 90's (where we won 3 National Championships and played for 5) and was overwhelmed by the intensity of the smaller schools (mostly non-conference) that just loved the game and played hard even when down by 40 points. Did you ever played beyond Jr. High?
