Thanks for recommendation of these two records, definitely worth the wait on import to the UK,both around £38 .I got them both from different independent record shops.The Bill Evans record was bought from Concorde Music who were established in Perth Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 in 1967 are still owned and run by the same family.They have a physical shop in the City's Scott Street.The Mel Brown album was purchased mail order from Rough Trade who operate shops in London and other citys in England no Scottish shops yet! PS it took until the beginning of May before they reached the UK shops!

Kinda mind boggling that Verve let’s Jackpot cut from the master tape of Mel Brown but wouldn’t do that for their own version? What’s that all about?

Thanks for the recommendation. Was lucky to get both for a decent price over here in Germany. Though slightly warped and no polylined inner, the Mel Brown sounds terrofic. So does Bill Evans, which came flawless and a polylined inner. Great seperation of instruments, I can only second that. Cheers from Germany Klaus

Worth clarifying that neither of these LPs were pressed at MPR as you mention here. Jackpot’s website confirms Undercurrent was pressed at Cascade Records, and Chicken Fat at Kindercore Records.

Just ordered them from UK shops both on US Import. I know you have brought shipping costs more economical but they still virtually double the price on them after shipping and import tax from the US. Again I thank you for your recommendations especially these particular albums and recommendations in terms of quality of these pressings.The Bill Evans Undercurrent album I am getting hopefully is from an Independent Record store in Perth Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 who been run by the same family for the last 50 years ,Concorde Music who have a shop in the city centre.

The Bill Evans & Jim Hall album is famous for being poorly recorded. I happen to own a clean OG, the Mofi pressing and the new Jackpot pressing. The Jackpot is by far the better sounding pressing. I don't know what Kevin Gray did to it but it worked.

Bought the Verve by Request version of Chicken Fat couple of days ago as it was reduced to under £20.Other tgan tge usual Third Man dirty vinyl issues it played and sounds great after a clean. Agree with Mike 100% this is an absolute belter of an album that just about everyone will love

Thanks for the reviews, Mike. I didn’t know Jackpot was doing records since I follow Larry Crane who does recordings and TapeOp, and I see both are up in Portland so assume there’s a connection? Anyway, you’re right - I bought Chicken Fat after streaming the first track. Listened to it last night and sounds great. Haven’t bought Undercurrent yet since I have the Pure Pleasure edition from a couple of years ago. I thought my vinyl was noisy but turns out it was loud tape hiss? I mentioned it to a local record store owner who put on the MoFi version and we noticed the same, think it was around the second track. I am curious if this was EQ’d out in this Jackpot version somehow.

The Mel Brown album is good. I like that tune Greasy Spoon, cool groove. The song Slalom has an odd time signature, different percussive sound.

You'd rather listen to this over SRV? Wow, that Jackpot reissue must sound A LOT better than the VBR version. This is average guitar playing at best. I gave it a second listen today after your glowing review and I'm just as "Meh..." about this as the first time I played it. It's fast paced, so it's got that going for it I guess. But it ain't Stevie. Not even in the same ball park. Different strokes for different folks I suppose. It is good to know that Jackpot is putting out good stuff. I will definitely keep my eye out for their future releases. Great info. 👽✌️

I went through severs originals of undercurrent and even when they looked clean were quite noisy. I picked up the jackpot issue and am optimistic that it will be better than the originals I’ve had. I wonder how the solid state or 80s blue note versions of this compare??

It’s not that bad but I think it’s the vinyl quality rather than the pressing. Kinda like a a junior not quite as bad as a king or fantasy….it’s funny my original Zappa 200 motels is also on ua and had noisy vinyl…… compared to the verve and wb bizzare releases….

Re the Undercurrent title: no disrespect to KG or Jackpot but I think what this edition reveals, aside from this title being plagued with less-than pressings over the years, is that the recording is simply not great or even good. Several instances of tape saturation/clipping but not in a pleasant way (that ain't amp breakup folx, nor is it creamy, warm or pretty).
