We have seen so far, that with self-driving cars, there are so many things out on the road that can happen that the computer can not accurately process or anticipate in fractions of a second as a human can. Computers can still freeze up.

I would love to see a Tesla / Ford partnership. Ford is really good at building cars but Tesla is really good at technology. I can imagine Ford Focus or Ford Fiesta with Tesla technology. Fully electric. It would be a home run.

With all deference to Mr. Bill Ford; I do disagree with Ford Motors, with their decision to discontinue their line of sedans. I really believe that people still love the classic sedan. I think that Ford is ignoring a large number of consumers that believe the same way I do. I think that this decision will hurt Ford greatly in the next 10 to 20 years.

I have faith in Bill Ford, Donald Trump, to MAGA. This vision and investment ARE INSPIIRNG! As far as steel tariffs are concerned, if it doesn't work we'll negotiate a change; that's the greatness of capitalism. No such flexibility in communism. I would love to see Detroit become the jewel it once was. All of America is cheering you on!

Great idea to reuse this structure let’s build retail space why HOW Many Malls are dead or on life support thanks to shopping online.but how many other structures are empty in the city waiting to be reused ?? Where is everyone going to go in these self driving cars ??Not to shop since everything gets delivered to your front door!!Just wait until gas goes up again and Ford doesn’t have any cars but the Mustang maybe the Mustang station wagon will catch on again or a custom van !! But I can sell you a Eco Boost 6cyl. Truck for $50,000 💰💰💰💰Grand Father Ford would like and dislike some of what happened to the industry don’t get me wrong but he believed in EVERYONE owning their own vehicle not subscribing to a self driving car like buying cable tv ....

Ford doesn’t understand what’s happening at all. I don’t even know where to begin but I suggest one starts with interviews of Hackett. Those Silicon Valley folks are playing 3D chess while the big three are playing checkers.

My guess is Ford primarily made the decision to rescue this building to increase their favor ability with millennials. The tax breaks and public incentives they will receive just sweeten the deal. Millenials favor electric cars and autonomous driving more than baby boomers, yet Ford is known for the popularity of gas guzzling pickup trucks and SUVs. This Corktown campus will economically help Detroit and save a beautiful old building...but unsure if Ford's profitability and lackluster stock price will increase as a result.

Bad news for autonomous vehicles...some might like to take a look at just a couple of the many KZbin videos on this subject...."The driverless car scam"...& "The terrifying truth about self-driving cars"....I'll add a couple of things here...I challenge anybody to tell me that driverless cars can read, understand & obey every!! road sign..also at an intersection for example when the traffic lights have failed or are not working you sometimes see a human pointsman directing traffic is different directions & of course again I would challenge anyone to tell me that these vehicles can follow the pointsman's directions?

Thomas McGillivray , no I don't think any of them can currently. Though I don't see why it would be difficult to program one to recognize hand gestures to direct a vehicle. Consider the right year old technology if the Xbox Kinect, no controllers, but you can interact with menus and control games with just hand gestures. Image searches are consistently improving for search engines to find that image you want that doesn't have any keywords connected (also used to recognize and filter out pornography from photos uploaded to websites). Damaged/graffitied signs, worn out lane markings also challenge the current auto pilot systems, but a tree branch it front of a sign can be a challenge to humans also. I think it will be after 2030 before fully autonomous vehicles and humans will be able to coexist on the road. Before 2004 autonomous robots couldn't navigate a 150 mile course in the desert, now they can.

I agree completly. What to go somewhere and you do not have to drive..take a train, others take a bus, or then you used to be able to take a trolly. But Ford too was responible for getting rid of them.

it will be a long time before this tech can interact with humans directing traffic. It could be made to respond to hand gestures but then anyone could just be walking along a road and make some hand gesture and make the car crash. How to tell whom to obey and when is not easy to program. This kind of ai is still science fiction, for now.

I highly doubt Henry Ford would support self driving technology at all. Henry was a big man for the little man. He would not approve of all this junk today.Everybody will not be able to afford these vehicles anyway, which henry did allow people to do.Secondly, regular mechanics can't work on these vehicles, technicians have to & they will charge a lot.Autonomous vehicles & jobs put people out of jobs which tells us that they do not care about us anymore.I don't support it, especially if it does not benefit the little man.

Kobe Wade actually everyone will eventually be able to afford a car like this. Smart phones were out of affordability when they came out as were the new TVs. EVERYTHING that has been released to the consumer is always out of the budget of most until innovation and supply and demand made and will make it affordable. It's how its works.
