Bill Frisell is an international treasure. Every recent project is so musically deep, it's like modern day chamber music. This is beautiful beyond words! Thanks Bill!

These guys put a nice spin on this music without turning the tunes into abstract jazz noodlings (which I totally enjoy, too). Per the interview, Bill knows to stay out of the way and just channel the essence of the tunes. Very smart and honest.

These projects are very inspiring. It keeps me in my practice space behind the drum kit when there is so much pressure to move on to something else. So beautiful!

still think the Leisz/Frisell connection is the best thing to come out of his music since they hooked up years ago. Good Dog / Happy Man is his epiphany imho. as pure a statement as he's ever made.

I do a lot of performing as a solo guitar player - my biggest (of many) faults is that I speed up. Bill's music, when I can get the 'feel' in my head, really helps me to keep steady, peaceful and gentle in my playing, there is no need to rush.

Obviously, a lot more goes into the making of an EZ listening disc than we usually appreciate. It's fun to think that folks so talented can get together and enjoy it so much.

I grew up with the Beatles and have a very high quality threshold for covers... it seems to me Bill is one of very few that provoke in me the thought "Aha.. that is what they meant!" The other artist is Regina Spektor's version of Real Love... truly magical.

This is a fantastic project, bought it the minute I read about it. I just wish the "Serious Musicians" of the world would recognize Paul McCartney's song writing ability and hold him in the same esteem as they do John Lennon!

beautiful. this is not a "making of", but a piece worth studying to develop your maturity as a musician. the humbleness, respect and awe towards the wonder and beauty of music and playing great music with great musicians you can trust and you can let yourself fall into comes across exemplary. Got the album straightaway and love it. nevertheless, as constructive criticism, I perceive some rhythmical "stiffness" on songs I understand as very loose and lyrical. 10% more jacques loussier? ;)

If one feels the need to categorize Frisell I would say he is a blues player.
@chrisdolhancryk114110 жыл бұрын
I agree with you Kris... he plays everything and does it incredibly well and originally... I mean, the guy started out as a straight jazz player, studied with Jim Hall and everything... then it morphed into a study of ALL American music... then branched out into things like this... a true original....

I would just say he's an American composer / arranger / guitarist. Love him!

I have no doubt that Bill could play the blues in any way or form if he wanted to, but as far as I can hear, he's far away from that I-IV-V progression stuff as he can be most times.

Would have been nice if Bill had played in Liverpool when he toured Europe, as the city was close and influential to the Beatles...oh well.
