His name was Bill Lyles. He and R.W. Blackwood (the baritone) were killed in the infamous plane crash on June 30, 1954, and J.D. Sumner left the Sunshine Boys to take his place.

I believe there was a group in the 60s or 70s called The Junior Blackwoods and Phil may have been a part of that. I'm pretty sure Dean Brown was also in The Junior Blackwoods. The only other connection I can think of is the Assemblies of God. The Couriers all went to Central Bible College, and The Blackwood Brothers home base for years was First Assembly of God in Memphis.
