"By round of applause, how many people have never been polled?" GENIUS!
@mrzisme15 жыл бұрын
It was a jab at Leary. Leary stole several of Hicks smoking and Jim Fix jokes, some of them word for word. Miller knows this and looks for a way to bring his name up and Hicks responds by saying Europe is about 5 years behind us on the comedy scene, meaning that Leary can get away with doing same bits that Hicks has been doing for 5 years already. They're both aware of his joke theft.

greatsajby I don't know if you meant for that to be but that was an enlightening thought you had, because.. *drum roll* it's true, and furthermore... Hicks showed many signs of buddhahood, or christ consciousness or whatever you want to call it but my point is hopefully clear. It's wonderful seeing how much others still love Hicks even today, gives a little hope to me that one day his message will shine through and heal each individual on this planet with warm laughter, and deeper understanding that he provided. It's not about the messenger though, it's about the essence he displayed, and I think he would agree with me

Leary did steal a bunch of Hick's material. "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery", but I think the problem for HIcks was that Leary was a sell out and Hicks wasn't. Hicks didn't care for Letterman and to me that is a big plus on his side.

Ednerd Leary didn't imitate Hicks though. He copied him and stole his material and tried to make it his own because he probably couldn't stand on his own two comedic feet. Leary's mediocre for doing that and everyone knows Hicks is a fuckin' legend. Great parting shot on Leary here.

"I'm a smoker, so I'm trying to quit flying." - Bill Hicks. That was a good line. It fits so much today in states that have passed those stupid smoking bans, like my state, Colorado, for example, where bar owners aren't even allowed to let their patrons smoke in their bars! @Cognitive Chaos: Yes - me! I'm British and have loved Bill since being introduced to his material in the mid 1990s. His intellect is without question, and his honesty and truthfulness are to be admired. The fact that he also happened to be blisteringly funny is the icing on the cake. And Van Hammersly is correct - Bill hated nationalism. To quote the great man himself: "It's a round world last time I looked" I recently discovered an Australian comic called Steve Hughes who shares some similarities with Bill's style. I'd recommend checking him out, particularly his show 'While It's Still Legal' which can be found in full here on KZbin.
