Today the business of members of Congress is staying in Congress. Government will not get better until there are term limits other than defeat at the polls or death.

Food isn't poison, too much food is unhealthy. And people don't eat too much because of something in the food, they eat too much because eating (fatty and sugary food) makes you feel better, that's the usual response of the brain. The chemicals in the food have a negligible effect compared to that. If anything makes people fat, it's eating because you're unhappy, no exercise and sitting at a desk all day. Also meat and softdrinks are expensive.

I think it's not only that they're not held accountable for anything they do, I also have a problem with their age itself. Old people are a lot more conservative than the general public, and most of them have no idea about new technologies. (See Sopa debates and statements) I'm not saying all old congressmen are bad, but we're definitely a lot worse off than with a younger congress.

Agreed, but, Can't afford? I have kids that come to school eating hot cheetos and a monster soda from 7-11 for breakfast who are "low income" and on free and reduced lunch. Seems to me a bag of apples and a loaf of wheat toast is very much cheaper, but their parents can't find the time to cut some apples and toast some wheat. They would rather send them out with $5 bucks a day just for a breakfast snack. Fast food is not cheap. Rice, beans, and home grown veggies will save you a bundle.

While it may not change that, it may do two things - one, make that incumbant that's not going to be there, say, more than a decade, less valuable to the lobbyist - since there's going to be turnover and they're going to have to keep up - and two, have people in office that are a little more in touch with the people who put them there, and the actual state of the current (or at least recent!) world, versus how it was in 1950-60-70 when they first entered office.

I have no problem with age as long as it does not affect their work, i.e. Inouye. However, when they are in office for 50+ years and do not contribute, barely even attend votes. This is mainly why we should have congressional terms.

While food in US (HFCS, gm, ...) CAN cause irreparable damage including weight that is anywhere from difficult to impossible to undo, back problems and Soliman other health issues are neither necessarily caused by nor exclusively or even largely limited to people with weight and size issues - it is merely convenient to target them, but fact is most people with cholesterol, diabetes and heart problems are not just slim they are skin and bone with really very little else. This - health issues including size - is about bad nutrition far more than usual equations with bad habits re activity vs intake.

To answer your question the UK's House of Lords scrutinises Bills that have been approved by the House of Commons. It regularly reviews and amends Bills from the Commons. While it is unable to prevent Bills passing into law, except in certain limited circumstances, it can delay Bills and force the Commons to reconsider its decisions. In this capacity, the Lords acts as a constitutional safeguard that is independent from the electoral process. It's just as corrupt as the US Senate sadly.
